Therefore take up the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Ephesians 6:10-13. As believers who love the Lord and who are standing for His testimony, we must not be ignorant of the schemes of God’s enemy in his attacks on the church. In order to help educate and inoculate us against such attacks, the co-workers in North America have released a series of articles on ShepherdingWords.com, which expose the stratagems of the devil. This week, we have a narration of the article entitled “Assailing the Ground of Oneness (1): the Genuine Ground of the Church According to the Teaching and Practice of the New Testament,” originally published on October 26, 2020. There is much confusion and debate among Christians today about what the church is and how it should be practiced. This is despite the fact that the New Testament clearly portrays how the church was formed and practiced among the early believers. By claiming that such portrayals are merely descriptive rather than prescriptive, some have excused non-biblical bases of establishing churches and the practice of alternative “church” models. Some even go as far as attacking the genuine ground of the church and those who stand for it. Using numerous verses from the New Testament, this article clearly defines the church in its two aspects and the practice of the church based on locality. May the Lord supply us through this speaking and equip us to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Because God’s move spans multiple generations, the precious lessons learned by one generation must be passed down to the next generation (Psa. 78:1-7; Deut. 4:9-10; 2 Tim. 2:1-2). Otherwise, these lessons will need to be repeated, thereby frustrating God's move. Realizing this, God’s enemy Satan often sows distrust and enmity in order to cause a generational rift in the church.
