Expecting a quirky reboot of 1954's Creature From The Black Lagoon, they instead find a film about the struggle for the different or unique in having their personhood recognised; a beautiful film about finding whatever scraps of joy you can in the face of the benign apathy of traditional social values. 'The Creature from The Black Lagoon' was a flop on release, but over the years has become a stone-cold cult-classic featuring ghost dads playing baseball, free drugs, and fanatical gardeners.
