Realty Income's New Petrol Stations...

► Join Monzo: Get A Free £5! https://join.monzo.com/c/px6b2ry ► Episode Notes: Who’s home wifi is Steve W using? Find out in this week’s PlayingFTSE Show! There’s been a lot going on this week and Steve and Steve are here to talk about it. We’re talking UK banks, US banks, Wetherspoons and REITs. Kicking off is a look at the UK banking sector. Monzo (a company both Steves own shares in) has come up with a new feature to help people plan their emergency funds – is it something either Steve will be using? With interest rates rising, Steve D has been moving his money to take advantage. Where has he been looking and what’s the best rate a UK investor can hope to find in today’s environment? Steve W’s been looking at the latest earnings from J D Wetherspoon, which he mentioned a couple of weeks ago (and doesn’t own). The stock is 13.5% after its report, but what’s the catch behind that big cash flow number? After that, we’re going across the pond to the US. Steve D’s been following the latest from Jerome Powell and his views on interest rates following the banking issues. Anything exciting here? Lastly, dividend growth favourite Realty Income has been busy lately. They’ve agreed a $1.5bn sale and leaseback arrangement for some convenience stores, but what does Steve W (who owns this stock) think? The Budget & The Banks...

► Episode Notes: Who’s come up with a hot new SAAS company? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast! Steve and Steve are in this week to talk about the Budget, the Banks and some earnings from Adobe. But first, Steve W has made a blunder… Last week, when we talked about Freetrade, the Oxford arm of the PlayingFTSE team got something very badly wrong. He’s here to put it right, but what did Steve W miss last week when we were looking at UK brokerages? Just to keep things balanced, we’ve also got news from Trading212. The UK brokerage that both Steves have their ISAs with has come out with an offer that’s left them a bit disappointed – what’s been going on? Meanwhile, there’s been a budget announcement in the UK. What does it mean for Steve and Steve? Not a lot, but that doesn’t stop them having some views on the subject that might surprise you… After that, we can’t avoid the situation with the banks any more. SVB is a goner, but with other banks in the US and the UK falling too could this be a golden opportunity or are the risks just too great? It’s not all about the US and the UK on this show, though. Where there’s a banking problem, there’s usually Credit Suisse – the perennial problem child of the investment banking sector – and this time’s no exception. But what’s Steve D seen here? Lastly, we’ve got the earnings from Adobe to think about. Steve D thinks these were impressive, but the big question for us is always: is this stock a buy? Feetrade Upsets Customers, UK REITS & Nikes New Competition!

► Episode Notes: We’re talking about UK brokerages, UK stocks, and US fashion. All on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show! Starting off, Steve D has been looking at one of his favourite subjects – Freetrade. The UK broker has raised its fees (-insofar as that’s consistent with its name) and Steve’s been looking at how that might impact investors with different amounts to invest each month. Sticking with the UK, Steve W has been looking at REITs. Rising interest rates have been weighing on share prices and one of the worst-affected sectors is UK warehouses. Are there bargains on offer? Steve thinks there might be. After that, we’re on to stocks taht we like the look of. Steve D has been looking at Deckers – makers of the Ugg boots (remember those). They look like they’re in great shape – no debt, declining share count and making acquisitions to grow. Is there a catch? Wait and see… By contrast, J D Wetherspoons has spiralling debt and low margins. But Steve W likes the look of it. Nothing about the stock looks good on paper with revenues back to pre-pandemic levels, but free cash flow languishing. Is there a catch? Wait and see… Only on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast ► Support the show: Appreciate the show and want to offer your support? Google & Salesforce Clap Back!

Whose TV has a big white line down it? Find out on this week’s Playing FTSE Podcast! Steve and Steve this week are looking at more earnings. Berkshire Hathway, Salesforce, Okta, Rightmove, and Zscaler – find out what the Steves think about how they got on. First up is Rightmove. Their most recent earnings report suggests that the Steves have misjudged the risks here in quite a significant way – how?? Next is Salesforce, which was up sharply this week after its earnings. Strong growth and a share buyback scheme moved things along nicely, but do either of the Steves want to buy it? Then its over to the opposite of a tech stock – Berkshire Hathaway. Warren Buffett’s company reported a net loss this year – what’s going on there?? And we’re finishing with some cybersecurity. Okta and Zscaler both announced some interesting results, so what does Steve D think about them? Only on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!

TROUBLE Ahead for Realty Income? + Mercado Libre, Etsy, Teladoc & Dutch Bros

► Steve D on the Investor Way:  https://open.spotify.com/episode/52ceZcL4g0fQTY4L2xWpt1?si=6Fo3NsRqTnyQ7InQOLkOKA  ► Episode Notes: Who has a middle ear? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!  Steve and Steve are in this week to talk about growth stocks, dividend stocks, and value stocks. We’ve had another week of earnings and there’s lots to talk about. We’re starting off with a PlayingFTSE favourite – Teladoc. The stock is down yet again after even more goodwill writedowns. But could the worst be in for the Cathie Wood favourite?  Then it’s on to Realty Income. The stock is a favourite of dividend investors everywhere and Steve W owns it, too. But he’s mindful of the bear case for O shares. What does the future look like?  After that, it’s over to Etsy. The handmade sales platform has been acquiring other businesses… and writing them down as they go. Steve D owns this in one of his portfolios, so what did he make of its latest results?  Next, we’re looking at MercadoLibre – Latin America’s answer to Amazon. The company continues to grow both its e-commerce platform and its payment processing. Does the stock still look expensive at 2020’s prices, or has the business caught up?  And finally, we have a new stock to talk about. Dutch Bros runs a chain of coffee companies. Rather than franchising, they prefer to own their outlets outright. But could this be the next Starbucks?  Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast!  ► Support the show:  Appreciate the show and want to offer your support? Techs PIVOT To Profit +Berkshire, TSMC & Kraft-Heinz

What’s Steve D been thinking about in the middle of the night? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show! Paul is back! And we’re celebrating by talking about some of our favourite things – earnings reports and 13Fs filings. Steve W has been looking at what Berkshire Hathaway has been up to. They’ve been selling banks (as he’s been investing the other way) but they’ve been buying Apple shares, which is more like it from his perspective. Then there’s news from Twilio, Steve D has been loking at this one. The stock is unprofitable, but there’s a buyback coming and a pivot that’s catching his eye. After that, it’s back to the steadier fare of consumer defensives. Steve W has been looking at Kraft Heinz, which he thinks is sneakily doing better than a lot of people are thinking. Next, it’s AirBnB time. There’s not much to dislike about the  company’s most recent earnings report and the stock is close to its IPO price, so what’s bothering Paul about the company? And we’re finishing with Monday.com – completing our roundup of the tech stocks for this one. Another strong report, another buying opportunity? Steve D has the details. Only on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast!

Big Tech Earnings! (& Intel) $AMZN $GOOG $AAPL $INTC $META

If the FTSE 100 was a tech stock, which one would it be? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show! Steve and Steve are in at the end of the week to talk about some of the earnings reports that have been coming out lately. There’s lots to discuss, though maybe not lots to do… First up is Alphabet, because – appropriately – it’s first alphabetically. Search advertising was steady, YouTube was down, and Google Cloud was up. Both Steves own this stock – is there anything here to excite them and get them to buy more? Second is Amazon. Services revenues were generally higher, product revenues were generally lower. Net income was low because the Rivian investment continues to weigh on the bottom line. Should the Steves be worried with the P/E ratio going up and up and up? Third is Apple, which Steve W owns. For the first time since 2019, Apple posted lower revenues than it did a year ago. But the market took the news very well. Steve W sees the company running out of road on its buyback scheme, so what’s he planning on doing? Fourth is Intel. The market did NOT take Intel’s earnings report very well at all. With revenue and profit down in almost every segment, at least shareholders have the dividend to rely on for now… right? Last is Meta. The stock shot up after earnings as the number of users went up, but the metaverse project continued to lose more and more money. Steve W thinks that there’s scope to see whatever you want to see with this, so what’s he doing with his shares? Only on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast!

Jeremy's Hunt-ing for your ISA!? +ASML & The Worlds Biggest Buyback!

Whose portfolio is in the green for the first time in six months? Find out on this week’s PlayingFTSE Podcast! Paul, Steve, and Steve are here this week with lots to talk about. ISAs, buybacks, dividends, and earnings are the themes of this week’s show. We’re starting off with a UK story. There’s talk of ISAs being capped at £100,000, rather than the £20,000 annual allowance we currently get. The move is unsurprisingly unpopular with finance YouTubers, but is there more going on beneath the surface? Steve W has been looking at this one. Next, there’s news of a big buyback from the US. Chevron has announced it’s going to repurchase $75bn of its own shares. That’s around 20% of its market cap right now. Steve W thinks this is a good idea, but Paul isn’t so sure… After that, it’s on to earnings. Steve D’s been looking at ASML with Paul and the results look pretty impressive. Orders coming in seem strong and the earnings call was more than a bit interesting. So why wouldn’t Paul buy it right now? Paul’s also been looking at a couple of other earnings reports this week. Microsoft’s share price has been falling after its report offered weak guidance. And Blackstone also put out an interesting set of results. But what even is Blackstone and why has Paul been buying it? All on this week’s PlayingFTSE Show!
