Rabbi Yitzi & Dina Hurwitz: Our 10 Year Journey with ALS
R' Yitzi, known for being the life of the party, and his family were shluchim in California, leading a relatively normal life until Yitzi was diagnosed with ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig's disease) in 2013. Despite the debilitating nature of the disease, Yitzi continued to compose music and divrei torah with the help of a special computer program. His wife Dina has been an incredible support throughout his illness, and has also shared their story with others in the hope of inspiring and providing comfort to those facing similar struggles. Yitzi's diagnosis was devastating, but he and Dina refused to let it defeat them. They have used their experiences to help others, and have been featured in various media outlets for their inspirational message of faith and resilience. While Yitzi's condition is challenging, their love for each other and their strong sense of community have helped them to face whatever comes their way. Rabbi Fischer is a rebbe, mentor, and guide to so many with his deep respect, interest, non judgement, and love to his students and listeners. He is the Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Matisyahu and runs a wonderful rehab in the Old City of Jerusalem. Rabbi Fischer brings with him many talents and positive energy which he uses to connect to his Talmidim and to all with whom he is involved.
