Mendy Levy: Escaping The Extremist Lev Tahor Cult & Finding Hashem
Mendy Levy was born in 2003 in Canada to parents who were members of Lev Tahor, an extremist Jewish cult founded in the 1980s. Shunned by members of other Jewish groups and facing a kidnapping scandal, its leader Shlomo Helbrans had moved Lev Tahor to Canada in the 1990s. Helbrans then moved the group to Guatemala in 2014, in the wake of child abuse investigations in Quebec. Levy escaped the group in 2018 and now splits his time between Canada and New York. Shlomo Helbrans drowned in Guatemala in 2017. US authorities arrested his son, Nachman Helbrans, and other Lev Tahor leaders in late 2018 and 2021. They're currently on trial in federal court in New York on kidnapping and fraud charges, to which they've pleaded not guilty. The remainder of Lev Tahor, which numbers an estimated 300 people, continues to live in Guatemala and has been unsuccessfully trying to move to Iran. Rivka Ravitz: Why The Pope & President Biden Bowed to This Frum Mother
Rivka is an Israeli Haredi political administrator. Since 1999, she has worked for Israeli politician Reuven Rivlin, first as his bureau chief and campaign adviser, and, since his election as President of Israel in 2014, as his chief of staff. She has received extensive media coverage for being a frum mother of 12 in a high-profile political position. Ravitz considers her high-profile position an opportunity to display her religious commitment and make a Kiddush Hashem (sanctification of God's name). She wears modest clothing, and covers her hair with a wig. She does not fraternize with male colleagues or participate in "staff-consolidation days", and refrains from shaking hands when greeting men, in keeping with halacha. During Rivlin's 2015 visit to the Vatican, a photograph showing Pope Francis bowing to Ravitz. Despite it being a high profile visit, the Pope had bowed to her in respect of her religious resilience. During Rivlin's visit to the United States towards the end of his term, President Biden kneeled before Ravitz upon hearing that she is a mother of 12 children. She has incredible stories with Putin, Wonder Woman and other high profile kings, queens and leaders of the world. Inspector Richie Taylor: The Highest Ranking Orthodox Jewish Cop
Inspector Richie Taylor is the highest-ranking officer within the New York Police Department (NYPD) who proudly wears a yarmulke as part of his uniform. Standing at an impressive six-foot-three, his yarmulke adds to his already commanding presence. Despite visibly standing out as a frum Jew, Inspector Taylor confidently embraces his identity, feeling at ease among his colleagues. The NYPD, consisting of over 38,000 personnel, surpasses the combined size of the three largest police departments in the country. Among this vast force, only around 300 individuals hold the rank of captain. Achieving the rank of captain at the young age of 34, Richie Taylor's promotion is a testament to his exceptional capabilities and distinguished career. He stands as one of the youngest captains in the history of the NYPD. In this week's episode, we discuss how a frum Jew climbed the ranks, the power of Jewish pride and how a village builds a person. ____________________________________ ✬ SPONSOR OF THIS EPISODE ✬ ____________________________________ ▶ THE NATION'S FAVORITE STATUS "Sparks Of A Nation" gives you an inside glimpse at the most epic scenes from the Jewish Nation. Sara Braun: Embracing My Identity - A Black Jew's Story of Becoming Hasidic
Sara grew up in a small village in the Netherlands where her dark skin made her different from the people around her.
