Debating The Nature of Bitcoin? w/ Karim Helmy
Karim Helmy of Galaxy Digital comes on to the Bitcoin Magazine Podcast to discuss one of the most interesting and deep conversations in Bitcoin. Karim has a rich history studying the Bitcoin blockchain and is an expert in mining in particular. Host Christian Keroles has very strong views into what Bitcoin is and some of them are counter to what Karim believes. Rather than debating over Twitter Christian invited Karim to join and discuss what Bitcoin really is. Christian takes the position that ultimately bitcoin is a network of geographically distributed and computers maintaining constant consensus. Karim takes the position that while that does exist, ultimately it is the people and agreement from people that defines what Bitcoin is. This is a very nuanced debate and is at the route of many other philosophical and design disagreements in the greater crypto space. Bitcoiners’, what do you think? Is Bitcoin defined by hardware and software or by humans or by something else entirely? Tweet at CK, Karim, and Bitcoin Magazine with your take on what Bitcoin really is. Investing in Bitcoin with Kevin O'Leary
In recent months, conversations about the environmental impact of bitcoin have risen to national prominence. In this Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, hosts David Zell and Matt Odell sat down with famed Shark Tank investor, Kevin O’Leary. O’Leary had previously called bitcoins mined using fossil fuels “blood coins” and suggested that these coins and bitcoins mined with renewable energy may trade at different prices. In this interview, Mr. Wonderful walked back some of these positions, arguing that green mining will simply rise to meet growing demand. Nonetheless, Kevin’s conversations with institutional investors have lead him to a stark conclusion—firms are increasingly bound by ESG standards, and major money is waiting on the sidelines to invest in bitcoin once these standards are met. Zell and Odell talk with Kevin about what this may look like as well as the broader landscape of institutional investment. O’Leary announced for the first time that he is looking to increase his bitcoin allocation from 3% to 5% and discussed his investments in the bitcoin ecosystem. This was a great conversation, and you won’t want to miss it.

Why Bitcoin is 1000x Bigger than Digital Gold with Aaron Segal
One of the most important yet double edge narratives out there is “Bitcoin is Digital Gold” On this very special Bitcoin Magazine Podcast, CK sits down with Aaron Segal, investor, Bitcoin thinker, and writer. Aaron’s first contribution to Bitcoin Magazine was one for the ages. CK read the article and immediately got back to Aaron asking for an interview. CK believes that Bitcoin is much better than gold ever was and to simply describe is as gold on the internet does not do the revolution that is Bitcoin justice. Enter Bitcoin Information Theory (BIT) by Aaron Segal. Aaron’s article frames Bitcoin in a completely different way. Rather than focusing on Digital Gold, Segal hones in on the fact that a Bitcoin standard would end monetary uncertainty for 100% of the planet. What does ending monetary uncertainty mean? Aaron puts it into the contact of the laws of thermodynamics and entropy. Aaron sees that the law of thermodynamics doesn’t take into account advancements in technology, so Aaron created a new formula that does. The basic Idea is that work or energy expenditure to the power of technology minus monetary uncertainty equals information. TE^(X-ME) = -IE Please enjoy this eye opening conversation with Aaron Segal. Follow Aaron @LudiMagistR

How Bittr Reopened in Europe with Ruben Waterman
On this episode of the Bitcoin Magazine podcast, Christian Keroles sits down with Bitcoin entrepreneur Ruben Waterman. Ruben innovated in the Bitcoin exchange space with his company Bittr by being one of the first minimalist DCA Bitcoin apps around. Bitter unfortunately had to shut down in 2020 due to heavy handed regulation and uncertain enforcement from AMLD5 in europe. AMLD5 would have forced Bittr, run by a tiny team, to take on an enormous amount of compliance regulation and overhead. Due to this Bittr had to shut down, however Ruben did not lose hope all together. After a brief break, Ruben returned to find a path and partnerships to resurrect his Bitcoiner friendly DCA business. After a year of struggle, Ruben has found a way to bring Bittr back to Europe. The app allows users to DCA straight from their bank account to their self custody Bitcoin wallet. There is never any custody from Ruben and very minimal KYC requirements for Bitcoiners trying to accumulate slowly over time. Please enjoy this wide ranging conversation with Ruben Waterman Ruben Waterman Twitter: @watermaniak

The Epic of Bitcoin with Allen Farrington
Prior to the Bitcoin 2021 Conference, Bitcoin Magazine Podcast host Christian Keroles sat down with keynote speaker and incredible Bitcoin thinker for one of his very first podcasts appearances. This interview covers two of Allen's seminal works and why Farrington prefers to investigate Bitcoin’s cultural and literature alignments over the typical framing of economics, trading and technology. First Keroles and Farrington dive into his article The Capital Stripmine. The article is a ~30 minute read and it dives into why the current fiat system is effectively strip mining the US and current financial system of its resources. He compares what is going on in capital markets to the strip mining techniques that have become popular in modern day. Allen laments that because of fiat money’s poor incentives, civilization has taken on a growth at all cost mentality and have thrown away all regard for long term thinking and preservation. Second he get into Allen’s blockbuster article Bitcoin is Venice, Bitcoin Is. In this article Farrington, educates the reader about the anomaly that is Venice Italy at is peak. Venice was a magical mixture of a sound money, capitalistic, and free society when many of its neighbors where still operating in futility. Venice in contrast to other large cities was a bastion for the arts, wealth, and thought. Farrington details how Bitcoin’s sounds and fair monetary properties provide a framework for humanity to return back to Venice esc conditions and hopefully prosperity. Lastly Keroles and Farrington discuss Allen’s plan’s for his now live Bitcoin 2021 key note presentation titled, The Milk Of Paradise: Bitcoin And The Western Canon. The speech discusses how Western literature, culture, and historical lessons can all be fit into the values and properties that Bitcoin codifies into a physical network on nodes that maintain consensus in a decentralized way. Please enjoy this fascinating conversation with Allen Farrington. Follow Allen Farrington @allenf32
