Jeni's Graves Disease Story | Ep 14
I'm loving talking to people in the Let's Talk Thyroid Community because here are real people who are doing the hard work to support their health and have lots of great ideas to share with others.Jeni was diagnosed with Graves Disease only in January. She was overheating, losing a lot of weight, running to the toilet and her heart rate was through the roof!Jeni believes that years of anxiety, stress and overworking caused her body to go into overdrive. We talk a fair bit in this episode about being a 'busy woman' and how that often seems to be a trigger for a range of thyroid issues.Whilst Jeni is still fairly new to having thyroid disease, she has dived right into seeking out information, other's experiences and learning how she can manage her health in the long term. She is keen to share her experiences as they are unfolding in the hope that it will help others.Graves disease is an overactive auto-immune thyroid condition, whereas Hashimoto's (what I have) is more common, there are many in our Let's Talk Thyroid Community with Graves too (or fluctuate between the 2), so I'm so grateful Jeni has shared her story with us.Thank you Jeni!If you want to check out Jeni's businesses:redrooaustralia.com.auwork2weekend.com.auI'm enjoying Jeni's Instagram @work2_weekendHave you got a thyroid story you'd like to share? Going Gluten Free. Part 2 | Ep 13
Did you miss PART 1? Head back to episode 10 where we covered the why, where and what of going gluten free. Now let's get practical and talk about HOW to implement a gluten free diet.In preparing for this episode, I was reminded just how good my cookbook actually is, because really, it's more than a cookbook. I have lots of information in it about how I went gluten free, ideas for sticking with it when you travel or are out and about. There are meal ideas and approaches to meals, not just recipes. In fact I have been surprised by the number of people who have told me they sat down ad 'read' it cover to cover! Not got your copy yet? What Annabel Cooks: Real Food Recipes that will make you Flourish. Many recipes available for free on whatannabelcooks.comTips for implementing a gluten free diet?Make a decision - honestly, it's my biggest tip. Just decide if you are and how you are going to do it. Takes all the little decisions out of it then. Be prepared - stock the house with ingredients you can eat, remove those you can't. Be inspired - try new recipes, buy a new book or 2.Have fun - seriously, it's a gift not a punishment.Tell others and get support. How to approach a meal?🥣 Rethink breakfast - left overs are great, an egg and veggie fry-up, smoothie, breakfast soup 🥩 Decide on a protein, which fat will you cook it in (i use macadamia oil, coconut oils, olive oil, butter) and then add a mix of colourful veggies - try cutting them in different shapes for variety! Are you a turkey or a frog?Depending on your personality, you might like to take either a cold turkey or a frog in a pot approach. You decide what works best for you. Personally I’m a turkey! In the podcast I go over some tips for each approach and who it might be best for.---------------------Let's talk further...Book your 60 min Thyroid Strategy SessionSubscribe to the podcast, share & review. Sharon's Thyroid Story | Ep 11
I'm loving talking to people in the Let's Talk Thyroid Community because here are real people who are doing the hard work to support their health and have lots of great ideas to share with others.Sharon was diagnosed with Hashimoto's about 20 years ago after feeling extremely fatigued and hair falling out, having to change jobs due to the fatigue. An overachiever by nature, as seems to be for many with Hashimoto's, we talk about how that personality trait can impact on our health and how Sharon has learnt to manage it through changing jobs, awareness of stressful triggers and being proactive in using some specific essential oils to help stay calmer and grounded during the day.We cover Sharon's daily habits, her thyroid triggers, diet, supplements, essential oils and other lifestyle factors that have worked well for her. Finding a great holistic doctor has been significant and we talk about her 'secret weapon', as her partner, Leonie is a naturopath! Imagine having a naturopath on tap. Yes, Sharon, we are all a bit jealous ;-)Sharon shares her story with quiet wisdom and kindness that comes from walking her talk. It's the little tweaks along the way that show an accumulative benefit.Thank you Sharon for sharing your story, I know it will help many of our listeners.--------------------------Let's talk further...Book your 60 min Thyroid Strategy SessionSubscribe to the podcast, share & review. Going Gluten Free Part 1 | Ep 10
Have you thought about going gluten free but thought it was all too hard? That was me for sure. For about 10 years before I took the plunge! 🤷♀️ What would I eat? Would it really make that much difference? Is is just a fad? But I love to eat... But I love to cook... I get that it can seem impossible. It's not.It just takes knowing WHY you want to go gluten free, WHERE it is found so you know how to avoid it and WHAT you can eat. That's what this episode is all about.Next comes the HOW do you actually do it? That's going to be part 2 in a separate podcast.Whilst I've gone GF as part of my thyroid health, there are many other health reasons to consider giving it a go even if thyroid isn't your thing! Gluten/leaky gut has been connected to other auto immune diseases, perhaps you want to get rid of some bloating, think more clearly or have more energy. All reasons to give it a go and see if it makes a difference! I explore lots of practical information and strategies around this whole topic on going gluten free in this week's podcast episode and have put lots of links to products and information in the shownotes if you want a cheat-sheet of sorts.----------------------Let's talk further...Book your 60 mn Thyroid Strategy SessionSubscribe to the podcast, share & review. Robyn's Thyroid Story | Ep 9
There is power in a story. The more those of us with thyroid diseases talk about our experiences, the more we will help each other. That's why sharing stories from our Let's Talk Thyroid Community is important to me.I’d love you to listen as Robyn shares her thyroid story. Robyn was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s 3 years ago, although was on medication for a high TSH for a few years before that, and has lots of practical wisdom to share around how she has learnt to solve the ‘puzzle’ that is living with Hashimoto’s!Having a family history of thyroid disease, Robyn was alert to thyroid symptoms and so was blessed to have her Hashimoto’s diagnosed fairly quickly, despite her doctor initially diagnosing her with depression (a pretty common story). Robyn knew she wasn’t depressed and so kept digging, found a new doctor who has been treating her thyroid and her symptoms. We chat about things like brain fog, reducing chemical load, thyroid triggers, setting boundaries and self care.Thank you Robyn for sharing your story, I know it will help many of our listeners.----------------------Let's talk further...Book your 60 min Thyroid Strategy SessionSubscribe to the podcast, share & review. What causes Hashimoto's? | Ep 6
When I was first diagnosed with Hashimoto's at 23, I don’t remember thinking about WHY I had Hashimoto’s. I don’t remember asking what caused it. Perhaps I was just too tired, too young and information wasn’t as available as it is now. I don’t know, but I have spent time since trying to figure it out!It really is important to take the time to go back and work out what the causes and triggers are for you. Otherwise medication, diet and lifestyle changes are like cover ups and not dealing with the real issues. This is why a long term holistic approach to managing your health is really the best approach. In this episode I talk about the factors that create the perfect storm for autoimmune thyroid disease and some practical things we can do to address them.Important links for this episodeThe Root Cause by Dr Izabella WentzDr Datis Kharrazian 30 Day Paleo Wellness ChallengeEssential Oils - detox your home----------------Let's talk further...Book your 60 min Thyroid Strategy SessionSubscribe to the podcast, share & review.
