Ep. 110 - How Credit Card Processing Solutions Make Life Easier for Law Firms & Their Clients - with Amy Mann
Amy Mann is the Marketing & Communications Director for LawPay, what I consider the premiere online credit card processing solution for solo and small law firms. I like to share the services that I personally use – because, well, they work! – and I’ve been using LawPay for many years. We discuss how secure credit card processing can take a lot of the worry out of billing, payment in a world where mobile devices are everywhere, and the surprising number of firms that still don’t accept credit card payments at all. Ep. 109 - Keeping Human Connections Alive with Live Remote Receptionists - with Diana Stepleton
Diana Stepleton is the VP of Partner Engagement at Ruby Receptionists, a live remote reception service that I’ve been using for years. Whether you are in a virtual setting, a shared setting, or a traditional brick and mortar environment, there are a lot of advantages to outsourcing the receptionist function. We explore how virtual receptionists can be used to make a small or solo firm more efficient, and why a service that always answers your clients’ calls with a real person is so valuable. Ep. 108 - Legal Technology Certificate: How One Law Student is Revolutionizing Legal Technology Training - with Douglas Lusk
Douglas Lusk is the Founder/CEO of the National Society for Legal Technology (NSLT) and the creator of the Legal Technology Certificate. I think he’s on the cusp of something huge, and he hasn’t even graduated law school yet! This legal technology training program addresses a problem that most attorneys struggle with: How do I comply with the new ethical rules requiring competence in technology when there are no resources in my law firm or law school to do so (and without investing in expensive software packages)? Doug figured it out and, after just one year, his program has been included in the curriculum of over 70 law schools. On top of that, he’s talking to bar associations about finally introducing CLE on software instruction – a much-needed improvement. Doug offers an elegant solution to a growing problem, and I’m excited to see how it develops. Ep. 107 - Practicing Consumer Protection Law & Teaching Law Practice Management - with Kathleen Hyland
Kathleen Hyland is a solo Consumer Protection Attorney based out of Baltimore. We’ve talked to dozens of solo and small firm practitioners on the show, but Kat is actually our first consumer rights advocate. I was excited to talk to Kat because many aspects of this niche practice area are actually pertinent to all solo and small firm practitioners, such as the burden of student loan debt. Kat is also an adjunct professor at the University of Maryland, Francis King Carey School of Law, where she teaches in the Law Practice Management space. Most law schools don’t pay nearly enough attention to this topic, so it’s refreshing to hear how Kat approaches it in her class. Ep. 105 - Do I Need a Document Management System for my Business? - with Lee Ferris
Lee Ferris is a Product Manager at CHL Software, but he’s probably best known in the legal community for creating DocMoto, a high-performance document and email management system designed specifically for organizations running Mac networks. While DocMoto is for Macs, the functionalities and capabilities we discuss in this episode are widely available on Windows networks too, and this conversation is helpful for anyone wondering if they need a document management system in their business.I honestly wasn’t entirely sure what benefits a robust document management system afforded solo or small law practices, so I invited Lee onto the show to explain them – and I learned a ton!Resources: ● Learn more at DocMoto.com ● Connect with Lee on LinkedInJoin Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives!
