Ep. 174 - 3 New Products That Will Help Solo Attorneys & Small Firms Create a Cutting-Edge Practice - with Tom Lambotte

Tom Lambotte, co-author of Macs in Law: The Definitive Guide for the Mac-Curious, Windows-Using Attorney and CEO of GlobalMac IT, returns to The Law Entrepreneur to share three new products designed to help small and solo attorneys optimize and grow their law firms: BasicCare, How to Start a Mac Law Firm, and Optimize Method. BasicCare is the suite of tools that GlobalMac IT has been using for years to reduce the time and energy spent maintaining Mac systems, now available to firms of any size. How to Start a Mac Law Firm is their first course, offering a detailed step-by-step process and all of the best practices a lawyer needs to make the most out of their tech platforms. And Optimize Method is especially exciting because it will help all attorneys, not just Mac users, create the cutting-edge law firm that they need to keep up and thrive in our fast-paced world. It is a membership platform filled with strategies that Tom has been using to help other firms for years, so I think this is really going to be a game-changer for a lot of small firms. Resources: Learn more at globalmacit.com Optimize Method BasicCare How to Start a Mac Law Firm LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/tomlambotte Read: Macs in Law: The Definitive Guide for the Mac-Curious, Windows-Using Attorney  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives! Christopher Lyle is an attorney by day and tech entrepreneur by night. He created the first version of a really interesting platform called Law Hustle to meet the needs of his own law firm in managing the client experience, and he has since released it as a product that’s helping lawyers all over the country organize and automate their practice. We also discuss how firms can create a comprehensive marketing strategy, which Christopher says should include more than just digital – so don’t put all of your eggs in a digital basket! Resources: Check out Law Hustle at golawhustle.com LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/christopherllyle  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives! Ep. 172 - How This Podcast Helped a Solo Practitioner Build Their Firm - with Rick Piereck

Rick Piereck has quite a few interesting tidbits on his resume: he was in the Army before law school, worked in a few Maryland state attorney offices as a prosecutor, and claims to have listened to every episode of The Law Entrepreneur before opening his own practice. Rick says he used the insights from our wonderful guests over the past 171 episodes as a roadmap to creating his law firm, and I was really interested in hearing about the choices he made based on what he heard and what his practice looks like now. I know that his insights will, in turn, help more aspiring solo attorneys down the road. Resources: Learn more at pierecklaw.com LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/rick-piereck-6689a95 Twitter: twitter.com/PiereckLaw Facebook: facebook.com/PiereckLaw Practice Panther: practicepanther.com Dragon Legal version 15 (dictation software): nuance.com/dragon/business-solutions/dragon-legal-individual.html Zapier (automation and integration): zapier.com Contactually (a tool for managing relationships): contactually.com Handwrytten (handwritten notes platform): handwrytten.com  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives! Ep. 171 - Finding a Fulfilling Niche: Serving Healthcare & Mental Health Practitioners - with Daniel Mayer

Daniel Mayer has a niche practice providing services and resources to healthcare and mental health practitioners, effectively operating as an outside counsel to practitioners in a heavily regulated industry. This is a vital service area that is getting a lot of attention these days, for a number of different reasons (not all of which are good), but Daniel provides a much-needed legal underpinning to assist and support the people on the front lines delivering these services to these communities. We discuss the circuitous route that Daniel took to arrive at this particular practice,  the value – and challenges – of positioning yourself in an underserved or niche space when you are a solo practitioner, and how mental health will actually be relevant to every lawyer, at some point in their career. Resources: Learn more at danielmayerlaw.com LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/danielamayeresq Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Mayer-Law-LLC-205590496690209/  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives! Ep. 170 - Relocating & Reinventing Your Life & Career - with Elise Buie

Elise Buie had to evacuate and leave her life in New Orleans due to Hurricane Katrina, leading to a winding journey across the country that ultimately landed her in Seattle, Washington, where she now practices family law. She’s had to reinvent herself a number of times through this process but she’s always been able to make it work because, as you’ll hear in this episode, she’s a very personal and personable person, which is also reflected in her firm culture and how she practices law. We also discuss some of the challenges and difficulties when it comes to getting a new job in this profession, as someone who is a little older (in my case) or already has a large family. A lot of firms want to hire a young, unattached associate who they can keep for 20 years – and that can make finding a job especially difficult if, like Elise or myself, you are forced to relocate or choose to change careers in the middle of your professional journey. Resources: Learn more at elisebuiefamilylaw.com Facebook: facebook.com/elisebuiefamilylaw Twitter: twitter.com/elisebuie LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/elise-elizabeth-buie-426ba920  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives! Ep. 169 - Business Continuity Plan: How to Maintain Your Business & Legacy, No Matter What Happens - with Sofia Lingos & Pete Roberts

There are questions that come up a lot among solo and small-firm practitioners: What do I do if I have a long-term illness? Or, how do I provide a legacy for my firm so that, when I have to or choose to exit the practice of law, what I built can continue, and even provide for my family? To help us answer these questions, we are joined by Sofia Lingos, the managing attorney of  Trident Legal and the Principal of Confidential Counselor Consulting, and Pete Roberts, an independent practice and management consultant and the Principal of Practice Law Advisor. They will teach us about how creating a business continuity plan will help you maintain your business in a continuous fashion in case of a disaster, how you can go about creating an effective succession plan, and how to plan for the interaction between continuity and succession. Resources: trident.legal Sofia on LinkedIn: linkedin.com/in/sofialingosesq/ Sofia on Twitter: twitter.com/sofialingosesq practicelawadvisor.com Pete on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/pete-roberts-0698566/  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives! Ep. 168 - Changing the Family Law Narrative & Creating an Office Environment that Supports Your Practice Area - with Christy Zlatkus

Christy Zlatkus has been in family law for about a decade, but she just recently transitioned to a solo practice. She has a really interesting approach to creating an environment and practice that is conducive in the family law space, and it seems to be paying off so far. So, today, Christy shares how she created an office environment that supports the family law practice, why she hired a PhD to help with family conflict resolution and support, and how she is changing the narrative around family law. I also want to take a moment to thank Lawyerist for naming The Law Entrepreneur as one of the 10 Best Legal Podcasts in 2019 – and I want to thank all of you for listening because it couldn’t happen without you! Margot Roberts is a solo practitioner who focuses on guardianship law – and I’ll admit that, after filing a petition for guardianship, I wasn’t really sure what the practice area entailed. So, this was an extremely enlightening conversation for me, in regards to what guardianship law is all about and how a solo practitioner can build a successful practice, and I hope you learn as much as I did. Resources: LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/margot-e-roberts-708955149/  Join Lawyer Club FREE, where lawyers and law firm owners come to reclaim control of their firms and their lives!
