In this episode James Elson chats to Tim Landy, one of two British runners to attempt the Barkley Marathons in 2025. They cover his Barkley Fall Classic win guaranteeing his entry into the 2025 real deal. His preparation for the race and of course the experience itself. Tim made it further than any other ‘virgin’, a significant outcome in one of the toughest years on record.  

Dan and James are joined by Ferg and Jane, the Founders and co-RDs at Mudcrew, perhaps best known for the Arc of Attrition – recently of course bought out by UTMB. The four discuss the history of Mudcrew, the purchase of the Arc by UTMB, how it happened and why they chose that path for the race. The changes UTMB have implemented, what is coming in the future for the race (a new distance) and what we can expect from UTMB further down the line.

James Elson chats to UK born, US based Ultrarunner Ian Sharman ahead of his upcoming visit to race in the UK for the first time since 2009 – at this years Centurion Running South Downs Way 100. Ian is a four time winner of the Leadville Trail 100, ten time Western States 100 finisher with nine consecutive top ten finishes to his name. And previous US 100 mile trail record holder with his 12:44 at Rocky Raccoon. The two recap Ian’s running history, the appeal of the 100 mile distance. US vs UK ultra scenes and Ian’s ambitions for his race at the SDW100 this June.

James talks to Matt Neale about his latest achievement – a solo unsupported Steve Parr Round of 116 miles and 45,000 feet. Recently finishing his 15th Lakeland 100 and 5th Spine Race, Matt is one of the most experienced Mountain Ultra Trail Runners around and shares his wisdom!
