199: Ted Kaczynski (The Unabomber) Part 2

On April 3rd, 1996, three men approached a secluded cabin in Lincoln, Montana. The owner, 53-year-old Ted Kaczynski opened the door and was quickly apprehended by the FBI. The agents celebrated the fact they’d finally caught him. They’d finally caught the Unabomber, the subject of the largest manhunt in the history of the United States. It was estimated to cost approximately 50 million dollars. He was a man who’d terrorized the United States beginning in 1978. Through 17 years, Kaczynski had mailed or placed 16 bombs, injuring 23 people, and killing 3. He was finally caught when his own brother noted similarities in his Kaczynski’s letters to him and the manifesto that the Unabomber had published by The Washington Post. Kaczynski became a cultural icon, with people wearing his suspect sketch printed on t-shirts. (There are ones that have his pic and say ‘you’ve got mail’. Im ashamed to admit that i laughed) Many people agreed with his theories and ideas regarding technology’s toxic effect on society. After being caught, Kaczynski said that he wanted revenge, to get back at the system. Still, no one could understand what made a man murder three people and attempt the murder of countless others. Was he insane or was he simply a man who feared the death of society and wanted to get his ideas heard? Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here! 197: The Disappearance of Johnny Gosch

In the early morning of September 5th, 1982, 12-year-old Johnny Gosch set out for his morning paper route in West Des Moines, Iowa. Typically, Johnny’s father woke up early to help him with delivering the papers. Recently, Johnny had been begging his parents to let him complete the route on his own. His parents told him that he couldn't. However that Sunday morning, he didn’t wake up his father and left to collect his newspapers. Other paperboys saw Johnny speaking to a man in a car and then continuing on his way. Several witnesses reported seeing the car again and a man walking out from between two houses to follow Johnny. Later that morning, neighbors began calling Johnny’s parents to ask why their paper hadn’t been delivered. Johnny’s dad went to look for his son and found his abandoned wagon and his little dog that he’d taken with him. Johnny was nowhere to be found. 39-years-later, there still has not been a proper investigation into his disappearance and he has never been located. Was Johnny simply a runaway or was he abducted and forced into the world of child trafficking? Want access to our first 45 episodes? Grab em here! For about an hour on December 28th, 1987, the town of Russellville, Arkansas was under siege.  A gunman had gone on a shooting spree, targeting what seemed to be random businesses and people.  Expecting a bloody end to the spree, the police were shocked when the man gave himself up.  Once they discovered his name, Ronald Gene Simmons, they began to uncover a series of events that had taken place over the past few days that would leave many of them shocked to their core. 195: The Murder of Brandon Embry

On September 12th, 2019, 33-year-old Brandon Embry was found nude, unconscious, and barely breathing in a pool of his own blood on the floor of his Asheboro, North Carolina apartment. He had sustained significant trauma and was covered in blood, bruises, and cuts. He was so severely injured that he did not survive. Investigators were quick to conclude that Brandon’s cause of death was pneumonia, and that he had self-inflicted his injuries during a meth-induced fit. They closed his case less than six months after his death, stating that they did not have enough evidence to investigate Brandon’s death as a homicide. This statement was made despite the obvious signs of a struggle, brutal assault, and a girlfriend with a history of violence, obsession, and pathological lying. Brandon’s mother, Sarah however, is determined to make sure that her son’s story is heard and that he gets justice, despite what the Asheboro Police Department failed to do.  Want access to our first 45 episodes?
