When his parents opened a convenience store, he found himself binge eating all the snacks they sold. As a result, he gained a tremendous amount of weight. By the time Graeme was fifty, he had reached his all-time high of 360 pounds. On a plane flight with his wife, he felt “stuffed into his seat.” He decided then that it was time to do something about his weight. In an internet search to figure out how to lose the weight, Graeme came across Delay, Don't Deny. Gin's story spoke to him, and he began his IF journey right away. He lost a total of 140 pounds! Graeme has experienced incredible health benefits: both his arthritis and psoriasis are gone, his eyesight has improved, and his aches and pains have vanished. He feels immense vitality, and wants to share the power of IF with the entire world. His book, The Fasting Highway, is the story of Graeme’s IF journey. He intended it to bring hope to those struggling with their weight. His podcast is also called The Fasting Highway, and on his show, Graeme talks to other IFers from around the world. She recalls sneaking it, and as an adult had no control over it.Willow was put on her first diet at age twelve, followed by another diet at age fourteen. By the time she was twenty, Willow found herself at over 200 pounds. Countless diets would continue until Willow turned forty, when she could no longer lose weight no matter how hard she tried. In early 2020, friends shared Delay, Don't Deny with her. "It sounded like magic," she recalls. She began with 16:8, and gradually moved to 20:4. Willow does not weigh herself, so instead of a goal weight, she has a goal body. She is now a size six, and is happy with what she sees in the mirror. Willow's advice: "Read the books! Listen to the podcasts! You need to know why you're doing IF. Remind yourself: hunger is not an emergency. And as Gin says: delay, don't deny!" But if you’re looking for support from a community of like-minded IFers, we are here for you at ginstephens.com/community. Dr. Mark Mattson is well known in the intermittent fasting community for his articles: Flipping the Metabolic Switch and the 2019 New England Journal of Medicine article, Effects of Intermittent Fasting on Health, Aging, and Disease. Dr. Mattson has been intermittent fasting since 1980, before it had a name. While working on his PhD, he rode his bike to class. Noticing he experienced reflux after his ride, he began to skip breakfast. He immediately felt better, was more alert, and had more energy. Dr. Mattson's 1990s research on Alzheimer's and Parkinson's led him to intermittent fasting. He found that rats and mice lived longer by eating every other day, as compared to those who ate daily. He dug deeper into why, which led to a discovery that during a fast, there are major changes in brain cells. Dr. Mattson shares: "Nerve cells increase their production of antioxidant enzymes that get rid of free radicals, and cells repair damaged DNA." IF powerfully slows the aging process and prevents disease. Dr. Mattson's latest book The Intermittent Fasting Revolution may be found where books are sold.Get Gin’s books at http://www.ginstephens.com/get-the-books.html, including Cleanish and New York Times Bestseller, Fast. Aileen decided to restrict the time she ate, and found IF by Googling 'time restricted eating.' She found the IF Stories Podcast, and learned about the clean fast. She also read The Obesity Code, and did her own 30 Day Challenge of 16:8. Aileen lost the 10 pounds, and went on to lose another 7 pounds. Being told by her doctor that she was overweight, Jacqui was put on her first diet at age eleven. This resulted in a lifetime of diets, and a broken relationship with food. Decades went by, and Jacqui gave up: “I’ll just always be the big girl.” At this point she had reached her highest weight of 365 pounds. In 2011, Jacqui was chosen for the reality TV show Extreme Weight Loss. In the course of a year, she dropped 207 pounds eating an extremely low-calorie diet and doing daily workouts lasting six grueling hours. Maintaining her loss proved impossible. Her hormones and appetite were severely damaged, and Jacqui found herself in a vicious cycle of binging and restricting. She eventually gained back much of the weight she had lost from the show. Then in the summer of 2020, Jacqui heard about Delay, Don't Deny. She began with 16:8, and felt great right away. IF has helped Jacqui to heal her relationship with food, and to learn to listen to her body. It has given her a freedom she has never known. Jacqui's advice: "Truly just trust the process and your body. Start with the 28 Day FAST Start. Don't change anything until after those 28 days. IF gets easier over time."
