Richard Thorpe is Director of Rugby of a National 1 Rugby Club, and Performance Coach to professional athletes, executives, entrepreneurs & family office Next-Gen. Richard began his career in rugby when he joined the London Irish Academy at the age of 18. His subsequent professional career boasted over 150 Premiership rugby games for London Irish, Leicester Tigers and London Welsh. He played in the 2009 Premiership Final for London Irish, and was a part of the Leicester team that won the Premiership in 2013. A near career ending injury saw Richard leave Leicester after winning the Premiership and join London Welsh whom had just been relegated. He went on to win the Championship with London Welsh the next season, gaining promotion back into the Premiership. Richard was also a Canadian International Rugby Player, and represented Rugby Canada at the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England. Following his retirement from professional rugby in 2016, Richard moved into business. Having invested in property throughout his rugby career, he initially transitioned into Operations Director at RDT Invest (a principal real estate lender). Alongside this role he also became a Director of SBL Capital, his family’s private office. But it was his ongoing work with professional athletes that first moved him into coaching. Early on after his retirement, Richard began coaching professional athletes struggling with their transition into the ‘real world’. He joined Harley Street Institute, Cognacity in 2017 as an Executive Coach, and in 2018, he wound down his other business interests and established his own Performance Consultancy. He now coaches across sectors but focusses mainly on professional athletes, executives and Next-Gen. At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Richard stepped back into rugby as Director of Rugby at National 1 Rugby Club Chinnor RFC Thame. Whilst a semi-professional club, Chinnor have some big ambitions, and Richard’s leadership framework is influenced by his experiences in professional rugby, business, Executive and Performance Coaching. #147: Brian Heyworth - Co-Managing Partner at Lansdowne Partners
I thoroughly enjoyed my interview with Brian and find him one of the most open authentic and powerfully vulnerable leaders that I have met. We had a fascinating and powerful conversation on many topics including mental health where he was refreshingly open. Brian joined Lansdowne Partners in January 2021 as Co-Managing Partner and is the Chair of the Management Committee. Brian has over 30 years’ experience in global financial markets, investment banking and asset management. Before joining HSBC in 2006, he had senior client management roles at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan. Brian obtained a MA in Economics from Cambridge University. In addition he is the Chair of The City Mental Health Alliance, which operates in the UK, Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia. #145: Joe Foster - Founder of Reebok
Joseph William Foster (Joe Foster) was born in 1935 in Bolton England with the same birthday 18th May, as his grandfather, also Joseph William Foster who had died 18 months earlier. Joe’s grandfather was the founder of J W Foster & Sons (Athletic Shoes) Ltd and the inventor of the Spiked Running Shoe and the Trainer (Sneaker). Joe and his late brother Jeff were born into the J W Foster & family business, but on their return after 2 years away from home on National Service, they asked questions. The year was 1955 and the brothers saw a business still rooted in the 1930’s. Their Father and Uncle were now operating the business and very much like another Sports Shoe company, spent more time feuding than collaborating. The result was that in 1958 Joe and Jeff left the Foster business to set up a new Sports Shoe company. The brothers founded Mercury Sports Footwear, which after 18 months they changed its name to REEBOK. Joe had been advised to protect their company’s name by registering it. By 1965, Joe was on his way to the NSGA (National Sporting Goods of America) Show in Chicago, which was the start of many Global adventures and experiences that after 15 years brought him together with Paul Fireman and later many Stars of film and television. As the surviving Founder of Reebok, Joe still welcomes the opportunity to travel and recount those early stories from start-up to becoming World No. 1. Joe has written a book documenting the history and his journey. The book is published on 1st October and signed copies with an extra gift can be ordered from http://www.jwfosterheritage.com#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEO #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #InclusiveLeadership #Boards Hosted on Acast. #140: Steven Foster - CEO and Founder at One Golden Nugget
’m on a mission to raise the consciousness of humanity by sharing wisdom, truth, venerability and positive vibes from some of the world’s most inspiring people. I started my first business aged 19 with a loan from The Prince’s Trust and by the time I was 28 had achieved a level of success I could never have imagined. 3 years later I was cleaning toilets in a factory for minimum wage. A humbling experience. Until I started Nugget I was one of those people who built my dream and then continuously ended up losing it. By the time you get to your mind 40’s those lessons that keep repeating should have been learned. So I started asking people for one thing I could do to improve, their Nugget. From that spawned an incredible adventure. #InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEOs #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #Boards Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
