#168: Graeme Newell - Behavioral Finance Speaker & Brain Science Researcher
Graeme Newell is a behavioral finance speaker and brain science researcher. He takes twisted pleasure in putting business leaders, employees and customers inside of brain scanners then mapping the parts of their brain that light up as they make money decisions. He is an expert in how our subconscious brain tempts us to misstep. He shows business leaders the situations when they’re most vulnerable to impulsive decision making. Graeme began is career as a television producer, working with companies like CNN, CNBC and CBS News. This is what led to his habit of creating an incessant stream of online videos. He produces about 100 videos each year. In his spare time, he mentors online content creators in how to build studios and use the latest video tools. Graeme started his company, 602 Communications, in the late 90s. He did consulting and training work, showing companies how to increase engagement on promotion and marketing. He worked with companies like Disney, Sony, GE, Madison Square Garden and other businesses in 21 different countries around the world. Next, he moved on to the advertising and marketing world doing research testing of commercials and marketing materials for large media companies. This is where he was introduced to the world of neuroscience testing and just how wickedly effective it could be at spotting bad marketing. Graeme put people inside of brain scanners, then showed them ads. The neuroscience testing clearly showed just how engage people really were with specific marketing materials. What was amazing was that people often professed to love an ad, but the brain scanners clearly showed they were not into it. What he found is that oftentimes, people wanted to believe they liked something, even if their subconscious beliefs disagreed. There is a saying in the world of brain science - If you want to know how someone really feels about something, one of the worst things you can do is ask them. While doing neuro-testing of financial services ads, he noticed a very peculiar result. Even the mention of this threatening topic caused people’s brains to light up like a Christmas tree. Money decisions were so incredibly threatening, that most people tended to make really bad choices. These days, Graeme is primarily a professional speaker on behavioral finance. Everyone can make smarter money decisions but we’ve got to learn the most common ways that our very flawed brains tend to misstep. He shows audiences the moments when they’re most vulnerable and how to break the pattern of impulsive decision-making before it costs them money. Graeme lives in Portland Oregon where most of his closest family live just a few minutes away. He is an avid hiker and gym rat. #InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEO #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #InclusiveLeadership #Boards Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

#167: Lane Belone - Author of Unleash Your Humble Alpha
Lane Belone is a curious explorer, harmonious creator and enjoyer of the good stuff in life. He is the co-author of Unleash Your Humble Alpha, a Special Forces (Green Beret) Veteran and co-founder of the Humble Alpha Veteran Empowerment Movement. Lane is also a spiritual advisor and focuses much of his time on Veteran healing. Lane grew up in a small town in Oklahoma and joined the military at the age of 17. Shortly after joining the Army, he tried out for the elite Special Forces. After successfully completion of the Special Forces Qualification Course, he spent 8 years as a Green Beret. He conducted missions and deployments all over the world. During the course of his military career, he also traveled on his own and has visited over 40 countries in total. Lane now focuses much of his effort on the Humble Alpha leadership movement and the Veteran healing space with his business partner (and co-author) Steven Kuhn. He also advises CEO’s and business leaders with their premier program, Humble Alpha Leadership Paradigm Upgrade Advisory Program. The program has a strong foundation rooted from the book, and takes it to the next level. The Humble Alpha Veteran Empowerment (HAVE) Movement aims to elevate our Veteran and local civilian communities around the world. Military Veterans have a heart of service and fully appreciate being part of a mission bigger than themselves. Veterans follow the Humble Alpha leadership method by working from the inside, out. Understanding their true identity, purpose and moving forward in life with certainty. Veterans gather fellow Veterans and civilians in their local communities to elevate those who need it most, called HAVE Missions. HAVE Missions spark hope within those who may have lost it and inspire others to step into their greatness. The heart of this movement is the in-person connection and elevation, yet it’s part of an even bigger picture. The HAVE Movement is an entire ecosystem aimed to elevate humanity at nearly every facet of society. The HAVE Investment Fund plays a critical role to inject big capital into a movement that has perfected the balance of “heart of service” and effective application. Also included are Veteran healing programs aimed at letting go of the trauma once and for all. Everything Lane does in life has the intention to elevate humanity and inspire the most Quality of Life in everyone he meets. Top Leadership Tip: Figure out and articulate your preferred day, week, month and year. Then make every decision that aligns with each.#InspiringLeadership #leadership #CEO #MotivationalSpeaker #teamcoach #InclusiveLeadership #Boards Hosted on Acast.
