#247 BlacKkKlansMan - Interviews & Review
BlacKkKlansMan - Interviews & Review The Not Old Better Show, Movies for Adults Interview Series Today's show is all about the new Spike Lee film, BlacKkKlansman, from Focus Features. BlacKkKlansman, the true story by author Ron Stallworth, stars John David Washington, Topher Grace, and Harry Belafonte, all of whom we speak with on the episode. The Not Old Better Show audience will remember in 1978 the community of Colorado Springs, Colorado experienced a growth of Ku Klux Klan (KKK) membership. One man dared to challenge their effort and thwart attempts to take over the city, Police Detective Ron Stallworth. He launched an undercover investigation into the Klan, gained membership into the organization, briefly served as Klan leader David Duke's bodyguard, and was eventually asked to be the leader of the Colorado Springs chapter. The irony of this investigation was that Stallworth is… A Black man. In the process he battled internal departmental politics to successfully pull off this "sting." The new Spike Lee film, released nationwide yesterday, Black Klansman shows how he overcame these obstacles and accomplished this almost unbelievable unique achievement. This is a great movie, and you'll love the interviews. Enjoy. Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha. See ausha.co/privacy-policy for more information.

#243 The Battle of Stalingrad - Tim Mulligan
The Battle of Stalingrad - Tim Mulligan Smithsonian Associates, Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm your host Paul Vogelzang, this is episode #243. As part of our Smithsonian Associates Art Of Living Interview Series, our guest today on the Not Old Better Show is Timothy Mulligan. Timothy Mulligan is an author and retired archivist at the National Archives, who specialized in captured German and related American military records of World War II. Timothy Mulligan, our guest today will be joining us to talk about the "decisive battle of the second World War, the battle of Stalingrad." And, because music played such a role in promoting propaganda, we're playing the March of the Soviet Tankmen, the March of Stalin's Air Force, both of which are original recordings, and played frequently during WW2. The Battle of Stalingrad is a fascinating, yet tragic, subject, and a battle fought mostly for prestige, notably considered history's first battle over oil, but the battle ended with the annihilation of an entire German army of 250,000 men. #241 McQ - Chris McQuarrie, Director Mission Impossible
Who is McQ? - Chris McQuarrie, Director Mission Impossible The Not Old Better Show, Movies for Adults Interview Series Let me start with the most important thing first: Mission: Impossible – Fallout is a monster home-run of a movie. Writer-director Christopher McQuarrie (the first director to return to the Mission franchise) and Tom Cruise have crafted an action extravaganza that's loaded with tons of "I can't believe they just did that!" moments. And, as we learned from Tom Cruise in our most recent interview, Cruise is famous for doing his own stunts, and what he does in Fallout will leave your jaw on the ground. Trust me, if you like action movies, thrillers, or just awesome movies, you want to see Mission: Impossible – Fallout on the biggest screen you can when it opens in theaters July 27th. And today, we're going to be speaking with Christopher McQuarrie. McQuarrie broke out in Hollywood by winning the Oscar for writing "The Usual Suspects," but in recent years he's become known as Tom Cruise's go-to director. After working with Cruise on "Jack Reacher," McQuarrie delivered one of the best "Mission: Impossible" movies with 2015's "Rogue Nation." Now the director is back in the director's chair for this month's "Mission: Impossible – Fallout." Ahead of the film's release, Chris McQuarrie, who Cruise refers to as "McQ" joins us to talk about stunts, directing the film, and well, Tom Cruise. Enjoy.
