#280 Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody

Rami Malek - Bohemian Rhapsody The Not Old Better Show - Movies for Adults Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is episode #280. That unmistakable music from the new movie, Bohemian Rhapsody speaks so much about this film, and speaks volumes to The Not Old Better audience who remember it well, but so, too, do new audiences and the film showcases Queen's music legacy. And those songs, while we all sing along and even cheer for the deep back catalog of Queen music, deliver the best moments of this new film, telling the story of Queen's interesting group of characters with differing personalities, the drama of the band's early years, the moments of highs and lows, conflict and a devastating tragedy. And that's what Bohemian Rhapsody, named after Queen's epic signature song, and Garth and Wayne's Bohemian Rhapsody scene from SNL to younger audiences, for the most part delivers. Check out my interview with Rami Malek, and hear his take on the music legacy of Queen and the thrill ride that is Freddy Mercury. To learn more about this episode, please go to: https://notold-better.com The excellent Bohemian Rhapsody soundtrack is available on iTunes Music, HERE> https://itunes.apple.com/us/album/bohemian-rhapsody-the-original-soundtrack/1434899831 Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! #279 MIDTERMS - Fake News & Election Results

MIDTERMS - Fake News & Election Results Issues, Opinion, and Government Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm your host Paul Vogelzang and this is episode 279 On NOVEMBER 6th 2018 the United States will hold elections for all 435 seats in the House of Representatives, the lower chamber of Congress and there is much to be concerned about in these times. These lower house seats are contested every two years, both alongside the presidential race and in midterm elections. There will also be 35 seats up for grabs in the Senate, the upper chamber, which holds elections every two years for about a third of its six-year positions. Those elections, and the votes that will determine their results matter. But, there are many in The Not Old Better audience that may be wondering whether their vote will count. Will my vote matter? Won't the social media bots determine the election? What about Fake News? Well, our guest today, Prof Brendan Nyhan will tell us that based on his research from the University of Michigan, it is not easy to influence or change people's votes in an election. As a matter of fact, according to Prof Nyhan, the answer is that a growing number of studies conclude that most forms of political persuasion seem to have little effect at all. #274 Morbid Curiosity - Presidential Last Moments

Morbid Curiosity - Presidential Last Moments Smithsonian Associates Art of Living Interview Series Welcome to the Not Old Better Show, I'm your host Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode number 274 As part of our Smithsonian Associates, Art of Living series, we're joined today by Smithsonian Museum collectors, curators, specialists, two of the Smithsonian's people who ensure the safety, proper handling and installation of Smithsonian exhibits, but most importantly get to collect souvenirs of death in the division of Political History, at Smithsonian's American History Museum. Now, after hearing that preamble, if you think this dreary or mac cob' please keep listening…I have to tell you, dear Not Old Better audience, one of the many things I love about my relationship with the Smithsonian is talking to the various experts who I get to interview. Bethanee Bemis and Sara Murphy are high on my list of "cool interviewees!" These two great people stare death in the face frequently! These two once opened a drawer at the Smithsonian Museum and were met by the countenance of Pres. William McKinley staring up at them! Of course, President McKinley, while attending a 'meet and greet' with the public, was shot in the stomach by anarchist, and would be assassin, Leon Zolgosz! This was just "opening a drawer," so can you imagine what else they've discovered among the artifacts of death, as they put it? #273 Patricia Garfinkel & Myra Sklarew Country Called Aging

Patricia Garfinkel & Myra Sklarew Country Called Aging The Not Old Better Show, Interview Series Welcome to the Not Old Better Show, I'm your host Paul Vogelzang, and this is episode number 273 As part of our author Art of Living series, we're joined today by respected authors, Myra Sklarew and Patricia Garfinkel. Now, if the name, Sklarew, is familiar to you, you're paying attention. One of our guests today, Myra Sklarew, is the mother in law of recent guest Renee Sklarew, also an author and a favorite of The Not Old Better Show audience, from her work, along with co-author Rachel Cooper, on the wonderful book series, 60 Hikes Within 60 Miles, Washington DC, 3rd edition. So, this is a first…daughter in law to mother in law… Also as you in The Not Old Better Show audience, I love talking about books, talking to authors, and from your emails and contact with me, you all love it, too. Today's show is special for reasons other than family, though. Today's show features a unique book that author Renee Sklarew generously shared with me. The book, of course, co written by Renee's mother in law, Myra Skarlew and Patricia Garfinkel is titled, "Invitation to a Country Called Aging." The book, again "Invitation to a Country Called Aging," is special, emotional and powerful. Much of that assessment, of course, and obviously, is based on the two authors, Myra Sklarew and Patricia Garfinkel. Patricia Garfinkel is a former Capital Hill speech writer, worked at the National Science Foundation, and also served as co artistic creator, having drawn the book's illustrations with Blake Douglas Young. Equally talented co-author, Myra Sklarew, also has a science background, studying biology at Tufts University, and worked at Yale University Medical School. Myra Sklarew satisfied her 'left brain,' 'right brain' functions by then founding the MFA program at American University. Both Patricia Garfinkel and Myra Sklarew are actively creating, writing and helping other artists with poetry, creative writing and artistic pursuits about human resilience. The form and structure of "Invitation to a Country Called Aging," which has received high literary praise, reminds me of poetry. We don't have too much poetry on this show, but I love it, and poets like Billy Collins are among my favorites. While some may ask, 'is poetry relevant?' I would say, yes, and while this show isn't truly poetry, the book is more than relevant and important. Today we'll hear from both Patricia Garfinkel and Myra Sklarew, and both will offer a reading from the book, "An Invitation to a Country Called Aging," but please join me in welcoming to The Not Old Better Show via internet phone, authors Patricia Garfinkel and Myra Sklarew. My thanks again to authors Patricia Garfinkel and Myra Sklarew, and their wonderful book, "Invitation to a Country Called Aging." You'll find links to where you can find out more about their book, and other details and information. Please join the conversation about "aging," your experiences and anecdote Talk About Better™ The Not Old Better Show on Radio & Podcast! Hosted by Ausha.
