#325 Fighting With My Family - Interview with Stephen Merchant
"Fighting With My Family" - Interview with Stephen Merchant Movies for Adults Interview Series Welcome to The Not Old Better Show, I'm Paul Vogelzang and this is show #325 As part of our Art of Living, Movies for Adults series, today's show reviews the new film, Fighting With My Family, and we'll be speaking with writer and director Stephen Merchant. Stephen Merchant you'll recall brought us, along with Ricky Gervais, UK's excellent series "The Office." So, truly comedy genius at work here. I will tell your right up front, I've never been a huge fan of wrestling. Even as a kid, I found the sport — or, at least, the version presented by the WWE bizarre, noisy and unbearably silly, fake and even ostentatious, and too theatrical for sport. That hasn't changed. I still think it's weird. But, the film Fighting with My Family, based on a true story, and originally from the 2012 documentary in which the Bevis family from Norwich, England, where we are invited into their home to show us just how much wrestling meant to them. They all wrestled; mom, dad, the kids — everyone. This is an excellent film, well done by Stephen Merchant, and perfect for your Friday night, tonight, or weekend viewing. Stephen Merchant's family romance not only inspires laughs but leaves us churned up. Once trapped in Ricky Gervais's shadow, the gentle giant tiptoes into the ring, lays siege and makes us see stars. I hope you enjoy the film as much as I did, and now let's welcome to the program, Stephen Merchant. My thanks to Metro Goldwyn Mayer Pictures, Inc., Stephen Merchant, and EPK for all the great assistance in putting this interview, review and show together for you, my Not Old Better audience. The Not Old Better Show…Talk about better. Enjoy the movie, Fighting With My Family, out now at theaters everywhere.
