MtoM #67 - Family Doc Pays Off $184K

This family doc paid of $184K+ in 3.5 years. Starting her financial education as an MS4 and continuing into residency, she had the confidence she was doing the right thing and just needed to keep chugging along. Patience is hard but is required for success. Just like medical training, it is not simply about intelligence but also about perseverance. Stay the course! https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/why-staying-the-course-is-hard/  At some point in our financial lives, it will be time to buy a home. A physician mortgage can be a good vehicle for a young doctor who’s just out of school and has a more effective place to use their money than on a big down payment. These loans allow doctors to secure a mortgage with fewer restrictions and a lower down payment than a conventional mortgage. But if you’re further advanced in your career or deeper into your journey to financial freedom, buying a home with a conventional mortgage and then, later on, potentially refinancing that loan to a better rate with a shorter time frame could be a great move. Wherever you are in your financial journey, make sure you use the mortgage that will be most financially beneficial for you. WCI #263: Investing in Crypto-Assets with Hedge Fund Manager, Jeff Ross MD, MBA

In this episode Dr. Dahle interviews a pretty unusual guest for WCI. Readers and listeners have emailed requesting that we get him on the podcast and we thought it would be an interesting conversation. Our guest is Jeffrey W. Ross MD, MBA. He is the founder of Vailshire Capital Management and Vailshire Partners hedge fund. He was a speaker at the Bitcoin 2022 Conference, and he is a board-certified radiologist. He's an interventional radiologist fellowship-trained, and just retired last year in 2021. He has contributed to the Motley Fool as well as Seeking Alpha. We talk all about Bitcoin and Crypto currency and why it is or is not a viable form of currency and if it is something we should buy into - or not. We know this is a controversial topic with the WCI audience so we hope you find this conversation interesting! https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/investing-in-crypto-assets-with-hedge-fund-manager-jeff-ross-md-mba  At some point in our financial lives, it will be time to buy a home. MtoM #66 - Living Like a Resident Really Works

This Professor in palliative medicine and physical therapist spouse paid off $339K in 3 years by living like a resident (https://www.whitecoatinvestor.com/live-like-a-resident/) on $60-80K/year. They paid a third of their income toward loans, refinancing a couple of times for lower rates. Along the way they maxed out their tax deferred accounts and worked hard to gain a financial education together. They want to spend their money in ways that increase their happiness and paying off their student loans did that!  I estimate that 80% of doctors need, want, and should use a financial advisor and/or an investment manager. Some investment gurus such as Dr. William Bernstein think my estimate is way too low. At any rate, if you want to use an advisor temporarily or for your entire life, there is no reason to feel guilty about it—just make sure you are getting good advice at a fair price. WCI #262: Kids (and Engagement Rings) Are Expensive! And What Is the Future of WCI?

In this episode we discuss the cold hard truth that kids are just really, really expensive. Childcare is one of those things that can be complicated and expensive. We review some options for childcare and how to get a little cutback on the cost of that. We also discuss how much is reasonable to spend on an engagement ring, debate if second homes are worth purchasing, discuss the merits (or lack thereof) of robo-advisors, and review some of the ins and outs of Roth conversions.
