Newcastle United beat Chelsea 1-0 at St James's Park; they were good value for that win, restricting a visibly frustrated opposition to breadcrumbs, and they go into the World Cup break third (THIRD!) in the Premier League. It wasn't Newcastle's best performance of the season so far, but they were "ruthlessly efficient" in front of goal and ran out easy winners at Southampton. It's a mark of significant progress, since Eddie Howe took charge a year ago, that such a win could be viewed as routine. With two games to go until the World Cup break, the club is in rude health. Fresh from the 4-0 battering of Aston Villa, Taylor Payne and Athletic duo George Caulkin and Chris Waugh are here for another joy-filled edition of Pod On The Tyne, and the three of them are pinching themselves that - with a third of the season now gone - the Toon are sitting comfortably in fourth, eight points ahead of Liverpool, and with the meanest defence in the Premier League. So, dare we start to dream of a first European adventure in a decade? Gareth Southgate and Brazil manager Tite were in attendance at St James' on Saturday to cast their eyes over, amongst others, Callum Wilson and Joelinton. Will they be heading out to Qatar in three weeks' time - and if they do go, what will be the knock-on effects for the second half of the season? Finally, we talk about Newcastle's women's team, for whom Katie Barker scored an absolute belter in the final minute against Barnsley to take the side up to second. On a soaking wet Sunday afternoon in North London, Eddie Howe masterminded a 2-1 victory over Spurs built on a titanic team effort.
