061 - How to Put Systemic Racism and Unconscious Bias on the Map
Puja Kapai, a Hong Kong-Indian multi-award winning researcher, academic and community justice advocate, joins us to talk about challenges facing ethnic minorities and refugees in Hong Kong as well as the work she does to put unconscious bias in Asia on the map. Currently an associate professor at the Faculty of Law and convenor of the Women’s Studies Research Centre at the University of Hong Kong, Puja was among the handful of ethnic Indian children who grew up in Hong Kong and went on to receive scholarships to finish her undergraduate degree in Hong Kong and her master's degree at Harvard University.
Puja has extensive experience in international human rights law, minority rights, and intersectional legal studies, with study areas including language rights, hate speech and gender- and race-based violence and discrimination. Her work has influenced policy development and advocacy across legal and service sectors in Hong Kong.

We talk to Sarah and CapRadio Director of On-Demand Sally Schilling who is also the executive producer of Mid-Pacific about how they convinced the newsroom leadership to produce an AAPI-focused podcast.
As the first race and equity reporter of CapRadio, Sarah also talks to us about her Asian American experience growing up in a predominantly white neighbourhood and working in newsrooms where BIPOC journalists are a minority.
