This week on the HR Happy Hour Show, we were joined by Professor Peter Cappelli from the Wharton School to talk about his recent HBR cover article , “Stop Overengineering People Management”. In the article, and on the show, Peter argues that today’s approach to labor optimization can be detrimental to organizations, and increasing popularity and use of advanced technologies like AI are driving employees to feel less accountable for their work and their interest in contributing beyond their job then falls. Additionally, the increase of CEOs coming from engineering backgrounds has led to an increased focus on optimization at the expense of employee empowerment.
This was an interesting show, thanks to Prof. Cappelli for joining us!
