Justin Connor, Filmaker, Musician, and Producer of THE GOLDEN AGE

Our guest today joins us from Hollywood, he is Justin Connor. He is a filmmaker, actor, director, and producer. His latest film is currently out on Amazon Prime called The Golden Age: The Life and Times of Maya O’Malley. The soundtrack, also written, performed, and produced by Connor, is available on all streaming platforms, with a double vinyl album. THE GOLDEN AGE, a musical rockumentary shot over a decade in California and India, introduces us to the character of subversive pop star Maya O’Malley who, after a string of controversial remarks, gets dropped from his music label and sets out on a spiritual pilgrimage throughout India in an attempt to resolve his troubled past. Winner of the Audience Award at the AWARENESS FILM FESTIVAL and winner of the Best Performance Award at the NEW HAMPSHIRE FILM FESTIVAL, Connor is also releasing A DAY IN THE LIES, a memoir novel that delves deeper into the life of the film’s main protagonist, Maya O’Malley, which will be released on Amazon later this Summer. Justin Connor currently lives in Los Angeles, and splits time between music and painting, and prepping the release of his third album, MATERIAL LIFE. You can track the film’s progress on social media as well as at www.justinconnor.com. Justin says that he started as an actor but then veered towards music, released an album, and then for this second album as he was trying to figure out how to adjoin writing and directing a film that intertwined music without relying on lip-syncing. He wanted songs that helped tell the story in an organic way. He was also watching a lot of documentaries at that time and decided to play with the ideas of what’s real and what’s fake. The character of Maya is born in these moments, he wanted to have a more substantive dialogue on the permutations of fame and pop culture and substantive songwriting. Something similar to Bob Dylan and Roger Waters did. He wanted to tell a story that was partially autobiographical about his own past. The whole document ends up being a comedy, but a comedy that also is supported on reality. It's a satire about material life, documentaries of artists and how artists are broken. He tried to approach the story with sincerity. The form of the documentary proved to be challenging because you play a little trick by satirizing. The Filmmaking Process The process of making a film such as this along with music and the collaboration of a team Justin also said that it was a healing exercise for him. As a survivor of abuse, Justin says that there is an immense amount of shame that people end up struggling with. Those wounds don’t necessarily go away per se but people eventually learn to bridge a different connection with them. Justin got to really challenge himself while making this film. Justin also talks about how sometimes the stories that stayed with him after going through a dysfunctional household also make him feel that he had to heal from them like it was a mandatory thing. Which is something that he also wanted to reflect on in this documentary. Victims can heal and grow, just on their own terms and time. Currently, Justin is also finishing a book that will accompany the film and will go even deeper into it. He hopes that this story can help others heal. So this whole process has helped Justin heal a lot and come to terms with his wounds. This is why in part the film took so long before he was really wrapped in this and now in the end phase he feels like he is finally starting his life over. His multiple roles in filmmaking Justin is the creator, director, and actor in this film. He also made music for it and a book.  Justin talks about how his role as a writer is different from his role as a filmmaker. In the film, scenes may need to be cut, which is something that Justin was careful about since he wanted the story to be as complete as possible. However as filming goes forward and the time for editing comes, as a director he is able to synthesize the information needed to deliver great storytelling to the audience. As an author, he got to write each scene in detail, as painful as they were. But this also allowed him the liberty of not being limited by time as he would’ve been in a film. Advice from MayaWhen it comes to what advice the character of Maya would offer, Justin says that his big mantra would be to march to the beat of your own drum. There are a lot of expectations and inclinations about what works with other artists or musicians, actors or filmmakers, whoever they are. And following those expectations may mean that you’ll be going through your life differently from what you want. But you have a life already that is different, embrace it and march to the beat of your own drum. Stream Justin’s film on Amazon Prime. Katie Leimkuehler, Storyteller and Executive Producer of FRESH TRACKS

Our guest: Katie LeimkuehlerKatie Leimkuehler is an executive producer of the documentary FRESH TRACKS, Senior Manager, and Social Media Coach at Charles Schwab, and the Executive coach for Leimkuehler Media. She is a well-rounded creative person who is not only a social media expert but also a brand consultant. Her creative engineKatie has always liked to learn new things and there is usually a point where you’ve learned as much as you can in a given field, so when she gets to that point she liked to hop on to another project of field and start learning something new. She gets the most joy from the act of creating something, not so much the final product but the actual part of starting from scratch and putting the pieces together to make an idea come to life. Background on her documentary story"Fresh Tracks" is a story inspired by her grandfather who was essentially the first amputee skier in the US. He lost his leg during WWII in the Battle of the Bulge, and came back to Cleveland, Ohio, started a prosthetic business, and wanted to get back into sports. And that's when he discovered skiing and design this device called the Outrigger, which is a ski pole with a mini ski attached to the end that helps for balance. He decided not to patent it so other people could have access to it. Fresh Tracks follows his story of designing the device and turning tragedy into triumph by giving adaptive athletes and paralympic athletes today the device they are using today.Katie originally wanted to write a screenplay but decided against it since she wanted to have more creative control. Choosing to tell her grandfather’s story wasn’t too hard either since it was something she grew up around and inspired her to think that if he could do it, so could she. Which is the mindset she looks to convey with her film, to spread positivity and empowerment even in these dark moments. Katie believes that dark moments in our life do not define us but rather how we pick up from those moments and what we do next. Lessons learned along the wayKatie didn’t have a background in film so she had to talk to as many filmmakers and producers as she could first. Everyone had a different process, but it gave her an insight into how to start and find the path that worked best for her. She learned that there is not a formula to make a documentary and that it can sometimes be overwhelming when you’re not sure of the path forward. She interviewed a lot of people, watched similar documentaries, and started to reach out to production companies that produced said films. That’s how she ran into the TFA Group with whom she partnered for the documentary. The reactionSo far, the sports community has received her documentary in a great way. She has gotten only positive feedback and a lot of people are just learning the story which is really interesting for them. Most athletes who use the technology are very interested in the story behind the design and recognize it as a crucial part of their equipment. The document is currently available on Vimeo on Demand and Amazon Prime. You can find more information about it on freshtracksfilm.com Her work as a Personal brand consultantKatie says that a lot of her work has always been in storytelling. Discovering what is it that her clients want to share and how they can do so. Helping them find what connects them with their target. She works on finding the unique moments, perspectives, or challenges that their clients may have come across to create their branding story. What the future holds for herKatie sees another film in her future, she has some ideas she is working on and looking for the right team and people to work with. To know more about Katie, check her LinkedIn account and website. Jodi Krangle, Voiceover, Podcaster, and Clubhouse Host

Jodi Krangle, Voiceover, Podcaster, and Clubhouse HostJodi is a voiceover actress, singer, and the host of a great podcast called Audio Branding -- as well as a host of a Clubhouse Room called The Power of Sound. Creative processJodi talks about her creative process and starts by telling Mark that it is different for everyone. It may also depend on what your coaching has been, so if you have a career in voiceover, you likely have had some kind of coaching. In each coaching, you will be given different ways to get into the right headspace for acting. You need to be able to perform the script you are given. It is a performance, an actual conversation. So even if someone gives her a really sales-heavy script, she is still able to talk about it as if it was a simple conversation, especially because she s answering real questions customers may have. To get into her acting creative headspace, Jodi says she also needs to know which music they will be using and the emotional context of the piece. So basically, context plays a very important role in voice actors being able to perform adequately the lines that they were given. Trends in Audio Branding SpaceJodi tells Mark about how more and more people are paying attention to what it actually is. So, Audio Branding, which is similar to Sonic Branding. they call it a brand sound that represents the identity and values of a brand in a distinctive manner. The audio logo branded functional sounds, brand music, or the brand voice are characteristic elements of audio branding. So it's a bunch of different things that are all working together to make an audio identity for a company and to let people who hear it, understand who that company is viscerally deeply, emotionally on really quickly, actually. So for instance, appliances have different sounds and people use different music on their on-hold and they have a different voice for their commercials that, you know, approximates their brand values. So most sound companies are looking to appeal to their target audience so they opt to have a signature voice. What this achieves is that customers are able to hear just seconds of a voice that they recognize and associate with the company. Her successJodi credits her success to being able to track what goes in and comes out. Having an online invoicing system has been huge for her, apps like Zoho and QuickBooks are very much the easiest way to present clients with a professional invoice. So keeping track of everything is monumental to keep your business growing horrible. What makes a great clientA good relationship with clear communication is the key here. They need to understand that they are paying for a professional service, they are hiring a professional and paying for such experience. Communicating expectations from the start is also big for the voiceover actress to be able to do a good job. The road aheadCurrently, Jodi is not sure which direction she may take in the future but she does know that she likes where she is right now, she doesn’t want to limit herself and is open to whatever happens in the next years. She knows she’ll figure it out when the time comes. If you want to reach her, contact her at www.voiceoversandvocals.com Listen to her podcast Audio Branding. You can also join her on Clubhouse every Wednesday at 2PM Eastern, that show is called The Power of sound and it is also definitely worth checking out. Thanks to our new sponsor Designhill -- the world’s # 1 creative marketplace that caters to the creative needs of businesses and individuals alike. Kiki Oosterbroek, KOaching Leaders in Self-Knowing

Kiki Oosterbroek  KOaching Leaders in self-knowing & self-awarenesslinkedin.com/in/kiki-oosterbroekkikioosterbroek@gmail.comInstagram @kiki.oosterbroekKiki is a creativity coach who currently lives in Seoul, South Korea. She will give us insights into what it means to be creative, the nature of creativity, and her own take on creativity and experience. Kiki on creativity:Kiki talks about how creativity is something natural to us humans and that we are meant to express our unique self. Therefore, being human means being creative. Kiki says companies shouldn’t be wondering how to make people more creative but rather, think about what’s stopping their employees from being creative. So people are naturally creative, especially as children and then they lose that. What happens exactly? Kiki explains how education inadvertently kills creativity and then fear of judgement becomes our biggest creative detractor as adults. Reflecting on decisionsKiki talks about how she has gotten more in touch with a better understanding of how we give meaning to our life. This allows her to be able to take a step back and in doing so, not only seeing where she is but also see where she is coming from and the possibilities that are in front of her. She believes that there’s also a bit of the ability to also receive inspiration that allows her to do this. She talks about human beings are very spiritual beings, as in, they have a high level of consciousness and that they express in a creative way. A lot of being creative falls on using your imagination, and this is where Kiki says she is most talented. Experiences are dataKiki feels how experiences help you collect data and the more you analyze said data, you are more likely to be able to predict future behavior. And nowadays, people who are working 9-to-5 jobs may also have creative dreams outside the company but what about those who have dreams within the companies? So what can either of those persons do in order to accomplish them?Kiki tells us that digging, cleaning, organizing, and making meaningful connections is a great start. Another important factor is letting go of the judgment towards your past, so people see what they’ve experienced, and when they find meaning to it, they are able to contemplate their new creative space without judgment. And at this moment is when they’re able to focus on the now and on the possibilities they will be creating for their future. For those interested, you can find Kiki on Instagram as @kikithechamaleon for any inquiries about her coaching practice and insights on creativity. Salisha Thomas, Broadway Actress & Podcaster

Our guest: Salisha ThomasSalisha Thomas is an actress known for being in the cast of "Beautiful: The Carole King Musical" on Broadway. She was also Miss California World. She has a podcast called “Black Hair in the Big Leagues.”  Salisha talks about how she decided to start embracing the hair she had been taught to hate. To change the way she used to think her whole life. Something that a lot of black and brown people struggle to do to this day. She just launched a new podcast called “The Salisha Show.” About her experience on BroadwayThe Carole King musical debuted on Broadway as a terrific musical and had a successful tour. Salisha helped launch the musical’s tour back in 2015, she got into the show the same week she had just moved to New York City which was amazing to her. She toured with the show for two years and she fell even more in love with the show and the team. She loved working in the musical. Salisha then chose to leave the tour to give New York a chance because living there was what she always wanted. Her creativity, focus, and processSalisha talks about how her process has changed over the years, she continues to learn and approaches her character with the mindset of how the character fits into who she is rather than how she can fit into the character.  It is a little different when you're portraying somebody who is a real-life breathing person who exists in the world, whether they're alive or dead or passed on. She tries to make it as authentic and truthful as she can by thinking who she is in their shoes. Researching and watching as much of the real-life characters as she can is also that helps her portray them correctly. Get their mannerisms and more. This is something she did when she got to play Diana Ross on a show called Trevor (that is about to open in a new Broadway run this fall.)What she gets asked the most Mark asked Salisha to think about the questions most students are likely to ask her. She talks about how often she gets asked about how to get on Broadway, whether it is better to be on the stage or as a crew and how she is able to do the same show eight times a week and keep it fresh. When talking about her journey to Broadway, Salisha says that everyone’s journey is different. There are many ways to make a dream come true. You can begin from many angles. Part of her story includes a homeless man telling her that she needed to move to New York. She didn’t necessarily listen to everything the man said but she knows that it was part of her journey. And she recognizes that if she hadn’t moved to New York, she wouldn’t have started her journey. So a lot about starting your dream is listening to your instinct while also paying attention to the wisdom others share. “There's more peace in making that decision when you know, that's the right thing for you to do. “To find out more about Salisha, check her website salishathomas.com and find her podcast there. You can also find her on Instagram and know that she checks her DMs! Jake Brown, Music Biographer & host of About The Authors TV

Jake Brown is a music biographer and award-winning author. He has written over 50 books. Jake has written biographies on bands from AC/CD and Heart to rappers like Tupac and R&B singers like Prince. His latest project is a streaming TV project called About The Authors TV, where he takes his experience and interviews some of these musicians and artists. What he has learnedJake has defined himself as an instrumentalist of seven instruments since he was five years old. He grew up a musician and PR. Then he started working for record labels in Los Angeles. And from there he got into book writing. He has always been a music kid so to work with something he was already passionate about was a great opportunity he couldn’t miss. He started the process of writing Tupac Shakur and the studio book with his state with Afeni Shakur, and what he learned through that process was that there are templates that can be applied to almost any band across any genre. And if you as an author find a way to do so, do it. If you find a niche as an author jump on it quickly and write and publish as much as you can. Try to get published by a “real” publisher and not just publish yourself. If you’re starting you can check some forums where publishers may go through contests. If you really want to make it big you need to find a publisher that likes your idea and put money into it, market it, sell it, make a profit from it, and come back and ask you to do another one. Back when he was starting, Jake says he pretty much took anything that was thrown at him, he did Jasmine St. Claire who was an adult star in the nineties.Don't do it just for the moneyIn 2004 he did his second published book and it was about R. Kelly. He admits that he only did it because he needed the money. Writing about R. Kelly was not easy for Jake and he was even asked to change some of the things in the introduction, changes that were demanded in order to water down the version Jake had written. But Jake needed the book to sell so when the situation wasn’t the same as for the previous book so when it came out he distanced himself from it. About building a writing careerJake talks about how you must take chances when building your writing career, especially in the music industry. It is one of the toughest businesses to get into. But in the end, the opportunity that is actually life-changing will come and open many doors for you. In your career as an author you may not always do things the best way or maybe pick the wrong client but regardless the opportunity presented and previous experience will be key for you to make the right decisions and establish yourself as a prolific music author. About The Authors TVJake has been filming a new television show all year, you can find more about it on his Youtube channel, you can also find the show on Authors TV where he has taken his experience interviewing some of the most popular. In this show, Jake applies his creative process to interview his guests.Jake decided to pursue having his own show as another creative outlet aside from the exhausting business of writing biographies. While writing is something he enjoys, he doesn’t want to spend his retirement writing and burning out.  He has already shot eight of the ten seasons of the show. "I think we have 34 Pulitzer prize winners because I aimed high as I did with the music business." The show is available on Amazon and Hulu and will be available in Britain. Mark closes the podcast talking about the creativity podcast isn’t just about philosophy. These are the creative and motivational stories of people and their journey to success through their creativity. Anthony Teresi, Author of Rippling Waves

Travel with Anthony Teresi as He Reveals the Infinite Bliss and Wonder of the Oneness That Awaits Us, in the Transcendent Dimensions Where Our Pure Consciousness Resides and Ultimately Returns to The Origin from Which All Love FlowsThroughout "Rippling Waves", Anthony Illuminates a Pathway of Transformation and Evolution, Showing Us Our Potential DestinyIf you've ever wondered what it might be like to leave your body and the Everyday world behind and allow your free consciousness untethered to visit where our souls originate, return home and begin anew--the unfathomable source of Supreme love...then let me introduce you to an Odyssey like no other! Renowned psychic and multi-dimensional visionary Anthony Teresi guides us all on an epic adventure, awakening the deepest truth of who we are in his new book Rippling Waves: A Spiritual Journey Through the Heart of the Universe.Anthony has traveled this journey himself, countless times, and after years of exploration into the highest realms, he has committed the truth of his experiences to paper with a pure hope to inspire us to expand, transform and ascend into the presence of the most profound revelation of love, right now, within this very lifetime. Rippling Waves calls for a renaissance of spiritual and planetary harmony. In ascending from one dimension higher into the next, Anthony paints beautiful and astonishing word portraits of the magnificent sights he has seen, the breathtaking places he has been, and the glorious beings who are the benevolent guardians and guides at each stop along the way. He listens and learns what enables the souls at each dimensional stage to fully embody their divinity-and what we, as humanity, might do to emulate them as we find our way throughout our own existence, so we, too, can experience the bliss, ultimate expression and oneness of all creation. On this journey we discover who we really are and how we can express that truth through the power of love. This remarkable book is the result of Anthony's years of pursuing deeper and deeper levels of consciousness awareness. In realizing that his true essence was not limited to his body, Anthony discovered the gift of Focused Love Projection which allowed his consciousness to expand beyond limitation towards its true Source.                        Born a fourth generation intuitive, with unexplained visions as a child, he hid much of his true spiritual nature away until his brother's plane went missing during a trip to Mexico. Hoping to find him, and desperate for answers, Anthony followed after, frantically searching without success through the jungles of Mexico. In a moment of despair, feeling helpless, his brother appeared to him, in full vision, assuring him he was well, and that he was transcending to his next soul expression, fully embraced in Peace and Love. This healing and awakening experience set Anthony on a path of deep exploration and inspired a joyous return to the expansion of his intuitive gifts. As an already accomplished professional musician, he began to employ unique instruments of his own creation in sound healing performances where he ultimately responded to the many requests of those seeking his gifts of wisdom and guidance. Today, he is a renowned clairvoyant, master astrologer, psychic visionary, sound healer and empath, highly-respected for his compassion and integrity. Anthony's natural born gifts presented the unique capacity to tune into the realms of universal knowledge and tap into the hidden mysteries of the cosmos. He has gained the ability to communicate directly from the vastness of consciousness through the unspoken language of the heart. This has granted him passage through multidimensional portals that link humanity to the almost limitless possibility, both here on this plane of life existence, and in the infinite dimensions that exist beyond. In one of the final stages of his voyages, he explores how a community of souls ascended from a world much like ours today, riven with greed and divisiveness, and transformed into a world of creative collaboration, total harmony and bliss. Anthony holds that "This journey clearly shows that until the majority of us awaken and seize the waiting gauntlet of the heart, our world will continue to crash and burn, survive, rebuild, then crash again and again as the promise of universal peace and oneness continues to pass us by. It does not have to be this way. Life can transform and humanity can facilitate that transformation."Our sponsor is Designhill -- the world’s # 1 creative marketplace that caters to the creative needs of businesses and individuals alike who can source high-quality designs from professional designers and unique products created by independent artists.Get Exclusive 25% Off on the Designhill Logo Maker ServiceUse code: WF25Offer valid Nov 30, 2021Link: https://www.designhill.com/tools/logo-maker/WorldOfCreativitydiscount

He has a passion for helping agency leaders to be empowered and approach their future with greater confidence. Christian’s consulting clients range from Reebok to TD Bank among other multinational level businesses. He believes that regardless of the size of the agency it is possible to do something that unique and different than others. And that’s how he gets clients, by offering unique solutions to the specific problems they may have. It is difficult to be good at everything, but when you specialize in a certain area, you will get bigger companies to seek you out. His approach to helping them figure out their “one big thing”When getting clients through word of mouth you may not have a good idea of what type of business they are or what type of client they may be. This creates a situation were they’ve done a lot of different things. So when they get their foot in the door with a client they may have a situation difficult to approach. What an agency does it that it comes up with creative solutions by examining the clients and the problems they come with. They look for commonalities, buckets of work they’ve done, certain types of consumers and targets, and some common themes. They take those themes and then they find companies that have the same type of theme and engage them in a development stage where they are finally able to reach solutions and find their unique “big thing” to stand out in the market. How he got thereChristian came to the industry almost by accident. He started by working on concert promotions to pay his way through college. He got to work with Grammy Award-winning artists such as Lady Gaga, Pitbull and T-Pain. Along the way, he was approached by an experimental marketing agency that was looking for some help with more street-type activation strategies. For Christian, it was a very natural transition from doing concert promotions and working with sponsors into that experiential marketing. Lessons learned along the wayAlong the way, when the 2008 recession hit, Christian learned the hard way that promoting his agency through just word of mouth was not enough. He ended up having to hire consultants who provided him with an immense amount of valuable insight. While this help came a little late and Christian had to close his business, he was inspired to go into business and business development a few years later. This made him learn that even when times are good, you still need to focus on having a predictable pipeline, price sales process, and word of mouth referral as a bonus only. What the future holds for ChristianChristian really enjoys art and has found himself increasingly trying to explore other creative avenues for himself. He is considering turning the Monday motivation newsletter into a book and be able to not only give some valuable insight to others but especially to his daughter. Find more about Christian by going to his website www.christianbanach.com and learn more about his agency and what they can do for you. Don’t forget to tune in for our next guests who will be bringing in even more valuable insight for those looking to make a big name in the business that is "creativity."
