"The Gospel is Divisive" - Special Interview with Calvin Robinson
Until recently journalist and cultural commentator Calvin Robinson was training to be a priest in the Church of England. Although initially the Church of England hierarchy had agreed that Calvin would pursue ordained ministry alongside his public engagement, he was unceremoniously dropped from the training process after two years and told he would not be being ordained. He was told that his opinions were divisive and controversial. Calvin, however, believes that the decision to drop him is reflective of the monochromatic wokeness and social progressivism of the Church of England hierarchy and that he has been cancelled for being an orthodox Christian with politically conservative views. In this special episode, Reverend Daniel French gives Calvin the opportunity to tell the story.Notices:Thanks to our Patreon sponsors! Classic Replay - "We are exiles in this world" w/ Rod Dreher
We're on a post-Easter holiday this week, so journey back in time with us to November last year when we were just beginning our walk through the book of Revelation, Durham Cathedral was closing its doors to the infectious hordes of unvaccinated worshippers and Australia and Austria were attempting to outdo one another in competitive vaccine tyranny. In the second half of the episode, we were privileged to be joined by Rod Dreher who spoke to us about western's cultures significant drift away from Christianity and the implications for soft totalitarian political takeover and technocratic digital control. The answer to all of this? Orthodox Christian of course. Enjoy!Rod Dreher TwitterRod Dreher SubstackRod Dreher American ConservativeNotices:We are no longer uploading our main videos to YouTube. A Sacred Journey
Snap up one of the few remaining balcony seats still available for our first ever official Irreverend conference! In this episode Church of England vicars Thomas Pelham and Jamie Franklin get together to offer a spiritual perspective on current events, this week taking our Scriptural reflection from John 12:42-43: leaders who cannot speak for fear of being cancelled by the Pharisees. We attempt not to repeat their error by covering the major stories of the week: the government pushes through quickie divorce laws, church leaders including Rowan Williams describe being transgender as "a sacred journey" and push for draconian government legislation to ban the ill-defined practice of "conversion therapy", the extension of the dangerous and barbaric practice of DIY abortion provision, the cancellation of Jane Austen at the Literature department of Stirling University and Viktor Orban's historic fourth successive victory in the Hungarian election.Links:Christian Institute, Quickie divorce law comes into force in England and Wales Daily Mail, Former Archbishop of Canterbury urges ministers to include trans people in conversion therapy ban BBC, What is conversion therapy and when will it be banned? Podcast Extra - The Ideological Challenge of Science
In this special episode, Church of England vicar Jamie Franklin reproduces a talk given recently at an event in Cambridge on "The Ideological Challenge of Science". In this talk I argue that Western culture is permeated by a naturalistic and mechanistic way of experiencing the world, that this worldview is based on a number of unprovable assumptions and is at base superstitious, that there is an inevitable and disastrous connection between this worldview and our ethical practices, that the Church was complicit in this outlook in its response to Covid-19 and that, in order to restore the Church to faithfulness, we need to find our way back to a supernatural expression of Christian belief and practice.Notices:We are no longer uploading our videos to YouTube. Rock Smacked; Smith Backed; Women and Livingstone Jacked
From Saturday April, snap up one of the balcony seats still available for our first ever official Irreverend conference! In this episode Church of England vicars Thomas Pelham and Jamie Franklin get together to offer a spiritual perspective on current events, this week taking our Scriptural reflection from a heavenly vision in Revelation 7 and moving on to discuss Will Smith's assault upon Chris Rock at the Oscars - Was the ensuing reaction an example of "racism in plain sight" as was claimed in The Guardian this week? - a follow up on last week's discussion on Dave Rubin's surrogacy announcement including a story of a lesbian couple whose surrogacy turned out to be a boy instead of a girl . In woke corner, the BCC has been forced to re-adopt the word "women" after it tried to get away with "people who were assigned female at birth" and Glasgow City Council is considering desecrating a statue of influential abolitionist David Livingstone because of his alleged links with the slave trade. We also spoke about an article in which an anonymous vicar's wife accused the Church of England hierarchy of not giving clear moral guidance on significant issues. Church Under Fire? - Discussion with Benjamin John, Bernard Randall and Revs Tom and Jamie
Recorded in March 2022 at The Colchester Mission, Revs Tom and Jamie were involved in a wide-ranging conversation with Christian Concern's Benjamin John and the Rev'd Dr Bernard Randall, including the following: the right relationship between the law of God and the law of the country, woke intolerance and the persecution of Rev'd Bernard for stating that pupils should be able to make up their own minds about human sexuality, abortion and associated issues and the response of the Church to the increasing marginalisation of Christian values and the emergence of progressive values as a new religion.Notices:Thanks to our Patreons!
