ADHD-ish
Diann Wingert
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners who are driven and distracted, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis or not. If you identify as an entrepreneur, small business owner, independent professional, or creative, and you color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with ADHD traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But running a business can be lonely and exhausting. Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to "catch and release" is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success. From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning your passion and purpose into profit.
If we haven't met, I'm your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance. In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my businesses and working with coaching clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself. So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode.

Unhiding: A Conversation About Disability & Belonging with Ruth Rathblott
As we wrap up this year of embracing visibility, authenticity and incorporate our values and priorities into our businesses and lives, I was inspired by the story of Ruth Rathblott, an inspiring woman who spent 25 years hiding a physical difference. She joins me on today’s episode to share her journey of unmasking her true self and how that decision has transformed her life and her mission. Ruth Rathblott is a DEI speaker, consultant and author who is obsessed with the topic of unhiding. She is committed to helping others understand the impact of hiding on the individuals, companies and on our culture at large. While Ruth’s difference is physical and mine are in the area of neurodivergence, I really resonated with her story of hiding and unhiding, and the impact of self acceptance on not only our mental health and wellbeing, but that of countless others who feel more seen, understood and experience a sense of belonging, some for the very first time because of our example. Key Takeaways from the Episode:The Toll of Hiding: Ruth opens up about the emotional toll of hiding her physical difference and the impact it had on her mental and physical health. Her story sheds light on the cost of inauthenticity.Creating Safe Conversations: Ruth emphasizes the importance of creating safe spaces for conversations around differences, especially during the teenage years when individuals may feel the pressure to fit in and hide their true selves.Unhiding in the Modern Workforce: The discussion covers the challenges of the modern workforce and the need for a shift in leadership principles to foster a culture where individuals can be authentic and feel supported.Changing the Cultural Message: The conversation touches on the need to change the cultural message regarding disability, focusing on promoting open conversation and fostering a proud and strong identity around differences of all kinds.Ruth’s Book, “Singlehandedly: Learning to Unhide and Embrace Connection” https://bit.ly/3tdbM1PRuth’s TedX Talk: “ When I Stopped Hiding, I Found Freedom” https://bit.ly/3vbHNaTRuth on social media:https://www.linkedin.com/in/ruth-rathblott/https://www.instagram.com/ruthrath/Also mentioned in this episode: The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks (book) https://amzn.to/3BcPldhIf you are ready to stop hiding your business from being found by the clients you are most excited to work with, my Boss Up Breakthrough framework is a great place to start. The Burnout Paradox: Why Prevention Isn't Enough
There are a lot of people talking about burnout, but most of them are actually only teaching basic stress management strategies. Today’s guest, Cait Donovan calls bulshit on most of what is being called burnout prevention and recovery. A licensed acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner turned keynote speaker, author, trauma informed burnout recovery coach and host of the wildly popular podcast, “Fried: The Burnout Podcast” has become a good friend over the past couple of years. I have so much respect for her no-BS approach, that blends personal experience and scientific inquiry, with a passion for addressing burnout on both individual and societal levels. The reality is that burnout is not a character defect, nor it is a badge of honor. We live in a culture that puts all of us at risk for burnout and the women who listen to this podcast are at an even higher risk than most, for reasons that Cait and I will get into in this interview. Here are a few of the highlights before we dig right in: 1️⃣ Burnout prevention ≠ burnout recovery: Cait Donovan challenges the traditional notion of burnout prevention, arguing that it focuses too much on stress management practices. Instead, she emphasizes the importance of burnout recovery, which requires understanding and addressing individual factors that contribute to burnout.2️⃣ Unique protection factors: Every individual has their own set of burnout protection factors. These factors could range from having a strong support system, regular vacations, engaging in hobbies, to even embracing change. Identifying and incorporating these factors into our lives is crucial in preventing burnout.3️⃣ Burnout is not solely caused by workplace factors. Other aspects such as cultural, health, family history, and environmental factors can also contribute to burnout risk. By recognizing and addressing these underlying factors, we can mitigate burnout and improve our overall well-being. Want to get more of Cait into your life? Finding the Right Size for Your Business Success
As we approach the end of the year, it's a perfect time to reflect on your business and consider if it's time to make some changes in 2024. I work with solopreneurs and small business owners in a holistic way, so one of my key strategies is right sizing, because it helps not only the business, but the business owner thrive. What is rightsizing? It's the process of restructuring your business to meet new objectives and goals, increase owner and employee satisfaction, improve efficiency, and boost profits. It can involve reducing or increasing the size of your team, reorganizing your operations, or reconfiguring your offers. The main goal is to eliminate anything that's holding your business or you, as the business owner, back from both success and satisfaction. If your business objectives have changed, your current model no longer aligns with your goals, you have skill gaps and need to bring in additional talent or hire a consultant to support your team, or personal circumstances such as burnout, illness, or increased family responsibilities are affecting your ability to run the business effectively, it’s time to consider rightsizing. Here are 5 key takeaways you'll learn from this episode:🔎 The meaning of rightsizing and why it's crucial to consider it for your business.🔎Signs that indicate your business could benefit from rightsizing.🔎The difference between rightsizing and downsizing.🔎The advantages and drawbacks of rightsizing your business.🔎The 4-step process to successfully right-size your business. Mic Drop Moment 🎙️"It's about being self aware and having a business that feels aligned with your values, your bandwidth, your stage of life, your other obligations and priorities, and giving yourself permission to make changes that will have a significant impact on the health and well-being of both your business and yourself as a business owner." My signature program, The Boss Up Breakthrough 🔥 can help you right-size your business so that you can avoid burnout, establish sustainable boundaries, and uncover the profit potential in your coaching or consulting business. Make Better Choices by Taming Impulsiveness and Overthinking
Making decisions in your business can be stressful, and most of us tend to rely on the same decision-making habits we've had for a long time. In this insightful solo episode, I discuss two common decision-making defaults that can lead to failure and regret. But don't worry, I also offer practical strategies to help you shift your decision-making patterns in order to make more conscious and intentional choices. Whether you lean towards impulsivity or overthinking, I’ve got you covered with actionable tips and techniques. Discover how to make decisions that stand the test of time and allow you to trust yourself in running your business. If you’re new to The Driven Woman Entrepreneur Podcast, let me introduce myself: I’m Diann Wingert, a business coach and psychotherapist with a background in ADHD and productivity, I bring a unique blend of expertise to her work. Through this podcast and my signature coaching programs, I empower driven women to overcome mindset barriers and make impactful decisions in their businesses. Key takeaways:1️⃣ Recognize your decision-making default: Are you more prone to impulsivity or overthinking? Understanding your default style can help you make conscious, intentional choices.2️⃣ Pause button strategy: Avoid making decisions on impulse by implementing a stall tactic. Take the time to think and consider the options before committing.3️⃣ Decision partners: Seek the input of others who may provide a different perspective. Having a trusted second opinion can help you avoid the pitfalls of both impulsivity and overthinking. Mic Drop Moment: "Overthinkers will tell themselves ‘I'm going to take action once I have researched every possible option for the decision in front of me, I have compared the relative advantages and disadvantages of every single option before me, and I have reached a conclusion on which one is the better choice?’ Now obviously this is extremely time-consuming and exhausting. It can also be demoralizing because it reinforces our belief that we don't know what we're doing, and that we can't trust ourselves." Is your default decision-making style interfering with your success? Take my "What's Holding You Back?" quiz, which can help you uncover the decision-making defaults that might be hindering your progress. Why Women Get Stuck Climbing the Corporate Ladder with Erica Anderson Rooney
If you are a driven woman who has been climbing the corporate ladder, you have no doubt noticed that diversity is not the norm. The broken rungs on the ladder start early on in the climb and are often camouflaged. We blame ourselves, experience gaslighting from other women who think there’s only room for one of us at the top and so many more challenging circumstances that it’s no wonder an increasing number of women are opting for entrepreneurship. In today's episode, my friend Erica Anderson Rooney and I delve into the challenges faced by women in reaching positions of power in the corporate world. We expose the reality of the "broken rung," as the first of many challenges as women attempt to advance where gender disparities are the norm, and women often learn far too late in the game that the game is rigged. We discuss how taking time off for children can set women back in their careers, widen the pay gap and examine the biases and challenges present in both corporate life and entrepreneurship. The reality is, that both are challenging and the best way to succeed at facing these challenges is to know what you’re up against. Erica shares her personal experience of realizing that she actually couldn't trust her mentor, so she made the courageous decision to leave her position in search of a C-level role where she could truly make a difference. The Secret to Building Strong Client Relationships
After years of heeding the call to abandon client work and making the transition into courses, memberships, and passive income products, many are now dropping these models and returning to client work. What’s going on? Well, for one thing, the economy has changed and buyers are more skeptical of the outrageous claims that have become the norm. Plus, client work is familiar and well-established, and in many cases, you can leverage your existing network, instead of spending hundreds of hours on social media and content marketing. And, it usually requires fewer clients to achieve your financial goals. But I get it, client work lost favor for some very solid reasons. It can be challenging to figure out how to package, price, position, and promote your work and create healthy boundaries with clients. Trust, respect, and communication are the essential building blocks for healthy relationships of all kinds, including client relationships. In this solo episode, I share strategies for setting boundaries, communicating value, and positioning yourself as the clear choice for your clients. If you find client work fulfilling, don't be discouraged by the obstacles, or dazzled by the passive income hype. Embrace the opportunity to make your client work satisfying, profitable, and sustainable. Key takeaways:1️⃣ Client work can be a powerful and profitable business model. While other options like courses and memberships have gained popularity, client work offers the advantage of an established market value and a built-in network of referrals. Plus, you need fewer clients to reach your financial goals! 2️⃣ Burnout is a real concern in client work. But with proper boundaries, communication, and pricing strategies, you can overcome the challenges and create a sustainable and fulfilling business. It's all about uncovering your stand-out difference and shifting your mindset. 3️⃣ Trust, respect, and communication are the foundation for healthy client relationships. Recognize and address trust issues, unrealistic expectations, and lack of clarity upfront to avoid misunderstandings and frustrations. Building strong, respectful connections with your clients is key to success.Mic Drop Moment: "I think your client agreement, in order to show respect toward both yourself and your client must have very clear cancellation policies, termination policies, and anything else that affects the relationship nature of your work together."My signature program, The Boss Up Breakthrough can help you right-size your business so that you can avoid burnout, establish sustainable boundaries, and uncover the profit potential in your coaching or consulting business. Overcoming Perfectionism by Embracing Mindfulness with Meg Burton Tudman
So many women are discovering that conforming to the norm and following the prescribed path is just not working for them. An increasing number are finding themselves feeling disillusioned when they check all the boxes and follow all the rules, only to wind up feeling completely empty and miserable inside. Many of them will hunker down and stay on the path, trying to ignore the growing disconnect and dissatisfaction within. Others give themselves permission to figure out what’s missing. Today’s guest, Meg Burton Tudman spent the early part of her life as a perfectionist and people pleaser, like so many of us recovering “Good Girls.” In spite of giving the impression that she had it all together along with her achievements and successful career in prestigious companies, Meg felt deeply unhappy and unfulfilled. Boost Your Mood, Energy, and Motivation: Simple Strategies for Mental Wellness
As entrepreneurs, we often find ourselves on the go, constantly striving for success, and juggling multiple responsibilities. But amidst all the hustle and bustle, it's crucial to prioritize our mental health and well-being. October is Mental Health Awareness Month and ADHD Awareness Month, so in this episode, we'll explore the importance of self-care, the impact of stress on our mental health, and practical tips for maintaining and boosting our mood, energy, and motivation. Here are three key takeaways from this episode that you won't want to miss:🌟1️⃣ Recognize the Impact of Stress: The ongoing effects of the COVID pandemic and other global issues are causing uncertainty, fear, and anxiety for many of us. It's important to acknowledge the impact of stress on our mental health and take proactive steps to manage it.2️⃣ Embrace Radical Self-Acceptance: Instead of trying to convince ourselves that we're okay and we can keep treading water,, I advocate for radical self-acceptance. Make an agreement with yourself to accept where you are currently, even if it's not easy.
