ADHD-ish
ADHD-ish is THE podcast for business owners with big ideas and busy brains, whether you have an “official” ADHD diagnosis, or not.
We have expanded our focus so regardless of your gender or whether you identify as an entrepreneur, soloist, small business owner, creative, independent professional, freelancer, etc) if you are driven and distracted, color outside the lines and think outside the box, this podcast is for you.
People with these traits are far more likely to start a business because we love novelty and autonomy. But, running a business can be lonely and exhausting.
Having so many brilliant ideas means dozens of projects you’ve started and offers you’ve brainstormed, but few you’ve actually launched. Choosing what to say "yes" to and what to catch and release is even harder. This is exactly why I created ADHD-ish.
Each episode offers practical strategies, personal stories, and expert insights to help you harness your active mind and turn potential distractions into business success.
From productivity tools to mindset shifts, you’ll learn how to do business your way by
embracing your neurodivergent edge and turning passion and purpose into profit.
If you're new here, I’m your host, Diann Wingert, a psychotherapist-turned-business coach and ADHD-ish serial business owner, who struggled for years with cookie-cutter advice meant for “normies” and superficial ADHD hacks that didn’t go the distance.
In ADHD-ish, I’m sharing the best of what I’ve learned from running my own businesses and working with clients who are like-minded and like-brained.
Note: ADHD-ish does have an explicit rating, not because of an abundance of “F-bombs” but because I embrace creative self-expression for my guests and myself.
So, grab those headphones if you have littles around, and don’t forget to hit Follow/Subscribe so you don’t miss a single episode. Oh, and if you love the show, reviews are appreciated and so is sharing ADHD-ish with others!

Incorporating Buddhist Wisdom for a More Mindful Business
Drawing from my background as a cognitive behavioral psychotherapist who embraced the principles and practices of Buddhism about twenty years ago, in this rather personal solo episode, I share how mindfulness can be applied to business, emphasizing the importance of reducing unnecessary suffering and approaching business challenges with self-awareness and empathy. Despite not fitting the stereotypical image of a Buddhist, I have found these practices absolutely transformational and decided to record and share this episode because I find that many people want to know more about it. I have undergone a Buddhist ceremony and consider Buddhism my religion of record, I tend to view it more as a philosophy that influences the way I approach my life, relationships and business. Maybe there is something in this ancient wisdom tradition for you too. If you are Buddhism-curious, have heard about mindfulness practice or are just looking for ways to manage your well being and mental health, and lower the emotional stress load of solopreneurship, this episode offers insights into how to incorporate Buddhist principles into business, such as non-attachment, right action, and the neutral nature of money. Throughout the episode, I’ll discuss the following key points:- Shifting our mindset about effort to feel more grace and ease in its flow in business and life- Managing emotions and thoughts when faced with disappointment or unwanted outcomes in business- Exploring the concepts of right action, non-attachment, and reducing unnecessary suffering in our work with others - Embracing a mindful approach to business decisions and changing our perception of money as a toolMic Drop Moment 🎙️“If I allow myself to get too focused on how fast someone else is growing, or how big their audience is, or how much more successful they appear to be with fewer years in business than me, I have brought upon myself a level of unnecessary suffering that does nothing for my well-being or my mental health, and it does nothing for my business." Diann Wingert Mentioned in this episode: The Four Noble Truths: https://bit.ly/48QaNDTMake the decision now to start 2024 off right. 5 Uncomfortable Truths I Needed to Relearn in 2023
From the pitfalls of overcommitting to the false allure of doing everything yourself, I’m sharing some valuable insights from the uncomfortable truths and painful realities I experienced this past year. 2023 was a rough year for many solopreneurs, who learned the hard way that it was anything but business as usual. Potential clients were fewer, sales cycles were longer and the status quo just wasn’t cutting it. It's hard to wear so many hats., but we can also go from insight to action faster than with any other business model. Join me as I unpack the importance of strategic planning, discerning options from opportunities, recognizing that more is not always better, and focusing on spending more time in your zone of genius. Learn from my experiences so you can start this year off focused, fired up, and flame retardant. Here are 3 key takeaways from the episode:✏️ Less is better: Trying to do everything ourselves isn't sustainable. Instead, embracing the idea that others can do certain tasks better and faster can be a game-changer for our businesses.✏️ Discerning opportunities from options: Aligning opportunities with our values and goals was a wake-up call to carefully evaluate where we invest time and energy. Don't overestimate the value of options or let FOMO dictate decision-making. ✏️ The power of planning: It's not just about being strategic and sustainable, but about reducing the risk of burnout in our businesses and lives. These uncomfortable truths pave the way for growth and transformation in the new year and point me in the direction of right-sizing, boundaries, and burnout-proofing my business. Unhiding: A Conversation About Disability & Belonging with Ruth Rathblott
As we wrap up this year of embracing visibility, authenticity and incorporate our values and priorities into our businesses and lives, I was inspired by the story of Ruth Rathblott, an inspiring woman who spent 25 years hiding a physical difference. She joins me on today’s episode to share her journey of unmasking her true self and how that decision has transformed her life and her mission. Ruth Rathblott is a DEI speaker, consultant and author who is obsessed with the topic of unhiding. She is committed to helping others understand the impact of hiding on the individuals, companies and on our culture at large. While Ruth’s difference is physical and mine are in the area of neurodivergence, I really resonated with her story of hiding and unhiding, and the impact of self acceptance on not only our mental health and wellbeing, but that of countless others who feel more seen, understood and experience a sense of belonging, some for the very first time because of our example. Key Takeaways from the Episode:The Toll of Hiding: Ruth opens up about the emotional toll of hiding her physical difference and the impact it had on her mental and physical health. Her story sheds light on the cost of inauthenticity.Creating Safe Conversations: Ruth emphasizes the importance of creating safe spaces for conversations around differences, especially during the teenage years when individuals may feel the pressure to fit in and hide their true selves.Unhiding in the Modern Workforce: The discussion covers the challenges of the modern workforce and the need for a shift in leadership principles to foster a culture where individuals can be authentic and feel supported.Changing the Cultural Message: The conversation touches on the need to change the cultural message regarding disability, focusing on promoting open conversation and fostering a proud and strong identity around differences of all kinds.Ruth’s Book, “Singlehandedly: Learning to Unhide and Embrace Connection” https://bit.ly/3tdbM1PRuth’s TedX Talk: “ When I Stopped Hiding, I Found Freedom” https://bit.ly/3vbHNaTRuth on social media:https://www.linkedin.com/in/ruth-rathblott/https://www.instagram.com/ruthrath/Also mentioned in this episode: The Big Leap by Gay Hendricks (book) https://amzn.to/3BcPldhIf you are ready to stop hiding your business from being found by the clients you are most excited to work with, my Boss Up Breakthrough framework is a great place to start. The Burnout Paradox: Why Prevention Isn't Enough
There are a lot of people talking about burnout, but most of them are actually only teaching basic stress management strategies. Today’s guest, Cait Donovan calls bulshit on most of what is being called burnout prevention and recovery. A licensed acupuncturist and Chinese Medicine practitioner turned keynote speaker, author, trauma informed burnout recovery coach and host of the wildly popular podcast, “Fried: The Burnout Podcast” has become a good friend over the past couple of years. I have so much respect for her no-BS approach, that blends personal experience and scientific inquiry, with a passion for addressing burnout on both individual and societal levels. The reality is that burnout is not a character defect, nor it is a badge of honor. We live in a culture that puts all of us at risk for burnout and the women who listen to this podcast are at an even higher risk than most, for reasons that Cait and I will get into in this interview. Here are a few of the highlights before we dig right in: 1️⃣ Burnout prevention ≠ burnout recovery: Cait Donovan challenges the traditional notion of burnout prevention, arguing that it focuses too much on stress management practices. Instead, she emphasizes the importance of burnout recovery, which requires understanding and addressing individual factors that contribute to burnout.2️⃣ Unique protection factors: Every individual has their own set of burnout protection factors. These factors could range from having a strong support system, regular vacations, engaging in hobbies, to even embracing change. Identifying and incorporating these factors into our lives is crucial in preventing burnout.3️⃣ Burnout is not solely caused by workplace factors. Other aspects such as cultural, health, family history, and environmental factors can also contribute to burnout risk. By recognizing and addressing these underlying factors, we can mitigate burnout and improve our overall well-being. Want to get more of Cait into your life?
