Shame-free Accountability Through Body-Doubling

If you tend to procrastinate on important but not urgent tasks (or those that your brain finds tedious), you are not alone.  Some tasks, like tax preparation and folding laundry, are nearly universal in triggering resistance, so it’s time to embrace strategies that allow us to get sh*t done, without shame. The popularity of body-doubling (also called virtual co-working) is partially due to the growth of remote work, but mostly due to the need for non-judgmental accountability.  After sampling several body doubling platforms, I decided to partner with Focused Space, an innovative company that combines body doubling with mindfulness practices and a virtual community.    In this episode of ADHD-ish, I am joined by Focused Space’s Becca Groner.  With a background in improv comedy and a deep understanding of ADHD tendencies, she brings a human-centered approach to productivity and teamwork, which you will experience in our conversation. By emphasizing community, flexible accountability, and personal well-being, platforms like Focused Space are paving the way for a more connected and productive future for individuals and teams. Fun Fact: Several members of the Focused Space community were able to finish writing books during their virtual coworking sessions. 📚✨Be sure to listen until the end for a special partnership announcement offering listeners a free month of Focused Space, and valuable resources like the Procrastination Playbook. So grab your headphones, and let's get started on creating a more joyful, connected, and productive work environment. Find Becca on Linked InMentioned by our guest: Third Coast Comedy ClubUnscripted Improv for AnxietyThe Procrastination Playbook Pomodoro Technique Give body-doubling + community a try: Use this special ADHD-ish/Focused Space partnership offer: Get one month free + 25% discount after that! https://bit.ly/3X2DvOJ

The Transformational Power of Rebranding

When you’re just getting started, there’s nothing wrong with DIY’ing your brand assets in Canva or hiring a designer on Fiverr or Upwork.  But, once you’re established and have outgrown your existing brand, it may be time to partner with a design professional.  We are one week away from revealing the new branding for this podcast, so I invited the graphic designer I’m working with, Jess Malli Mercier, to join me in talking about her approach, why she prefers helping established businesses to rebrand and how to know when it’s the right time to do so, and our experience working together. We talked about the true essence of a brand—it's more than just a logo and colors; it’s a reflection of your core values and how people feel when they encounter your business. If you do any kind of client services work, Jess shared invaluable insights on the benefits of a collaborative approach and the value of an emotional connection. Whether you're feeling disconnected from or bored with your current branding or simply curious about the rebranding process, this episode is packed with valuable advice and personal insights. 🔑 Key Takeaways:Collaborative Approach: Establishing a genuine relationship and clear communication with your designer is pivotal. Authenticity & Consistency: Your brand’s visual representation should authentically reflect your core values and ensure consistency across all touchpoints to create a memorable and trustworthy brand experience.Safety & Trust: Rebranding is a journey that requires introspection, trust, and sometimes stepping out of your comfort zone to truly represent the evolution of yourself and your business.🎙️Mic Drop Moment:“Be yourself. Be unique. What are the elements of you that are that are the most important and the most memorable? Let's show people that."  Jess Malli Mercier Want to connect with Jess?https://www.jmmartistdesigner.com/Instagram.com/jmmartistdesignerCompanion episode: Ep # 195 “It’s Time to Rebrand The Driven Woman Entrepreneur Podcast” The new podcast is being revealed NEXT week, so please Follow/ Subscribe to The Driven Woman Entrepreneur NOW so you don’t miss the first episode in the new name, show art, and focus! Apple PodcastsSpotifyYouTube Music (formerly Google Podcasts)

Do Women with ADHD Attract Narcissistic Partners?

Several years ago, Rhoberta Shaler, PhD, interviewed me on the topic of whether women with ADHD are at greater risk for entering into a relationship with a narcissist or toxic partner on her podcast “Save Your Sanity.”  I have not done any qualitative research on the subject, but based on my experience as a psychotherapist and a coach, I have seen plenty of evidence that it may be true.  I was contemplating recording a solo episode on the topic when I learned that Dr Shaler passed away unexpectedly in April 2024.  So, instead of recording something on my own, I decided to share the best parts of the original interview on her show in honor of her important work.  In this episode, Dr Shaler and I explore how women with ADHD,  who tend to be quite intuitive often miss the warning signs that the person they are involved is a narcissist.  We unpack everything from the addictive allure of unpredictable partners to the internalized shame that makes us more vulnerable to remain in unhealthy relationships. Our dialog offers a fresh perspective on the dopamine deficiency that drives us, insights on how rejection sensitivity, impulsivity, and the hidden brilliance of ADHD play a part in partner selection. If you have ever found yourself in a manipulative relationship, or questioned your self-worth, this conversation will provide the validation you need to seek out more information and healing. Mic Drop Moment:  "I believe that women with ADHD can sense the abnormality in the hijackal’s behavior and the inconsistencies in how they behave, but we override our ability to trust our intuition because of our persistent self-doubt and all the negative messages that we have internalized."   Diann Wingert Rhoberta Shaler’s resources on toxic relationships and narcissistic abuse:YouTubePodcastWebsiteThe original interview on Save Your Sanity Podcast: “Have ADHD? Four Ways to Enhance Your Creativity

Most people with ADHD traits are original thinkers and creative problem solvers, but don’t always know how to make the most of these abilities. My own search lead me to the work of psychologist JP Guilford who studied creativity in the 950s, and is based on the notion that all creativity is evidence of divergent thinking.  Spoiler alert: if you are neurodivergent, you are creative, even if you don’t think of yourself that way.  In this episode,  using Guilford’s model, I will break down the four different types of creativity (aka divergent thinking) and share simple, effective strategies for how to enhance yours, from brainstorming and mind mapping to perspective shifting and role-playing. Troubled by your tendency to go off on tangents?   Have trouble making decisions because you can see the benefits of every option?  Feel self conscious about your impulsivity and intuition?  It’s all evidence of your divergent, creative thinking! Don't forget to share this episode with a fellow creative and choose one new strategy to implement this week. Guilford’s Model of Divergent Thinking (aka Creativity) Fluency: generating a large number of ideas or solutions Flexibility: generating ideas that are different from each other.Originality: generating ideas that are novel or unique.Elaboration: developing, refining, and elaborating on ideas. We’ll not only cover tools and techniques to amplify your creativity in each of these four areas, but how to protect your creativity through strategic rest, structured downtime and how to avoid toxic productivity and revenge bedtime procrastination.  Also mentioned in this episode:Interview with Jude Star on mindfulness and meditation Q-less Crossword Solitare Dice GameJulia Cameron Morning Pages Voxer walkie talkie app Time is running out to grab one of my Summer Strategy Sessions. These fast and focused engagements are designed for maximum impact in minimum time.  Click on the hyperlink to schedule your no obligation consultation NOW!
