Talk Toomey with Joshua Toomey

This week we dive into the EDM world and talk with one of the biggest names in the game, Kayzo. He is known in the metal world for working with Of Mice & Men, Memphis May Fire, Atreyu and more. Kayzo joins Joshua Toomey to discuss his latest album, New Breed. He talks about how he got into metal and hardcore and how he wanted to blend the two styles together. Kayzo speaks on Korn being ahead of their time with the Dubstep album, how Skrillex changed the game and bringing bands out to do shows. Kayzo talks about growing up playing hockey and how the European players would play dance and house music in the locker rooms to get hyped for the games. The guys discuss his setlist process and debunk the DJ is just up there hitting a spacebar myth.Joshua and Chris start the show with some talk of the  latest Slipknot single and Wacken selling out in 6 hours. Max Cavalera returns to the Talk Toomey Podcast. Max is on the show to discuss his latest Soulfly album, Totem. Max and Toomey discuss what the term "totem" means to Max and how we all wear our totems daily. He also talks about this being the first album post-Marc Rizzo and how that affected the songs. Max speaks on falling in love with shorter songs and writing with Zyon Cavalera. The guys look back on the recent touring that Max did with his brother Igor and their playing of classic Sepultura songs.  Chaos A.D. was a life changer and they get into some Pantera talk. Opus of Dead By Wednesday joins the show for a quick chat about Capitol Conspiracy, touring with Generation Kill and his thoughts on writing a book.Joshua and Chris start the show with their thoughts on Soulfly's "Totem", the latest on the Pantera reunion and Kerry King's new band. The first ever live taping of Talk Toomey took place at Losers 812 in Jeffersonville, IN. Trey Landrum of Devil's Cut sat down with Joshua Toomey and talked about his recording at Jelly Roll's studio, adding country elements to rock and working with Wage War. Trey also discusses playing Welcome to Rockville and the making of the Devil's Cut videos.Next up, Lorin Kozlowski of the Roach Koach podcast joins the stage to breakdown Loudwire's Nu Metal Mt. Rushmore. The guys discuss the list and give their own suggestions for a Nu Metal Mt Rushmore. Original Flaw members, Chris Ballinger and Jay Daunt, join the show to discuss their debut album, Through The Eyes. Jason talks about recording the early demos of the band and Chris chimes in with how the band came together. The guys talk about the importance of local record store staple Ear-X-Tacy was for the band. Chris and Jay speak on showcasing at CBGBs for labels and why they went with Universal records. They get into how they chose David Bottrill to produce, pre-production stories and recording at the famed Sound City. Nik Nocturnal joins the Talk Toomey Podcast this week. Nik is on to discuss Termina's latest track, Translucent. Nik and Joshua also discuss fans of his YouTube channel being fans of his original work, how he doesn't want to tour and building a team around the band. Nik also talks about bands that got him into heavy music such as Avenged Sevenfold and Disturbed. Nik is well known for his quick guitar covers and the guys discuss the process of turning around a quick video. Nik also speaks on his decision early on to be a metal YouTuber and not a rock guy and the thought process behind the choice. Joshua and Chris start the show with some talk about the recent live Talk Toomey and the behind the scenes at the event. Joshua and Aaron talk about him leaving Betraying The Martyrs, why there was no drama and forming the new band. Aaron gushes on Luka and his use of electronics in ten56. The guys also speak on starting a new band during the lockdowns and how it was an equal playing field for everyone. Aaron finishes up with the upcoming As I Lay Dying shows and the future of the band. Joshua and Chris start the show talking about the upcoming Talk Toomey Live show that will take place July 15th. They also discuss the upcoming Knotfest shows and possible live streams.
