Meet Sarah Park Dahlen!We celebrate her successes both academically and professionally and her work to ensure there is much needed diversity in children's literature.We support her work to amplify Asian American authors as they create work that features characters and storylines that we can all resonate with.We are inspired by her commitment to help teach our next generation of librarians the need to share diverse books and to make her life's work about elevating Asian American works of literature.*****About SarahSarah Park Dahlen is an associate professor in the Master of Library and Information Science Program at St. Catherine University in St. Paul, Minnesota. She teaches courses on youth materials and library services, storytelling, and library science. Her research addresses transracially adopted Koreans in children’s literature, the information behaviors of adopted Koreans, and diversity in children’s literature and library education. She co-founded and co-edits Research on Diversity in Youth Literature with Gabrielle Atwood Halko, co-edited Diversity in Youth Literature: Opening Doors Through Reading with Jamie Campbell Naidoo, and co-edited the Children’s Literature Association Quarterly’s Special Issue on Orphanhood and Adoption in Children’s Literature with Lies Wesseling. Her next book projects address race in the wizarding world with Ebony Elizabeth Thomas and Asian American youth literature with Paul Lai. Sarah served on the Children’s Book Council’s selection committee for the 2018-2019 National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. Meet Osric Chau!We celebrate his successes on screen large and small, bring much needed representation in TV and moviesWe support his shows, projects, and future endeavors as he dedicates himself to creating movies that represent the best of us.We are inspired by his tenacity and innovation in continuing to evolve as an actor and in his craft.//Osric Chau is a versatile young actor who had his start doing stunt work as a martial artist before being cast as a Wu Dang Grandmaster's prodigy in Spike TV's mini-series Kung Fu Killer. He went on to pursue a career in acting and landed the supporting role of ‘Nima,’ the featured Tibetan Monk in Roland Emmerich’s disaster epic 2012.The year 2012 turned out to be just as big as the movie for Osric as he appeared in a pair of studio feature films; beginning with a lead role as the geeky ‘Peng’ in the Paramount Pictures comedy, Fun Size, opposite Victoria Justice followed by a supporting role in Universal’s Pictures’ Kung Fu actioner, The Man with the Iron Fists, opposite RZA, Lucy Liu and Russell Crowe. He was one of the main characters in the highly anticipated live action web series HALO: Forward Unto Dawn, a companion endeavor to the HALO 4 video game.It was also the year that Osric got his start on the CW Network's television series, Supernatural as 'Kevin Tran', Osric's most recognizable character to date. He would continue working on the show for three seasons as Kevin Tran became a fan favourite character. Meet Vaidehi Gajjar! We celebrate Vaidehi's works of writing and the healing and connection it has brought to South Asian women across the world, including Vaidehi herself. We support her work and passion for writing about mental health and other topics that are still a challenge to share with certain members of our community, especially those of our parents' generation. We are inspired by her pursuit of writing and leadership in her community, in addition to her day job in healthcare administration.*****Vaidehi Gajjar is a writer, editor, and mental health advocate heavily involved in South Asian mental health through various nonprofits and organizations, such as the PFA Institute where she serves on the Board of Directors, as well as Circuit Sehat where she is Vice President of Correspondence and focuses specifically on a widespread sexual assault prevention initiative across the South Asian dance circuit.
