Her films have screened at the Cannes Film Festival, New Directors/New Films, South By Southwest Film Festival, Sundance Film Festival, Toronto International Film Festival and the Whitney Biennial.Tajima-Peña is the series producer/showrunner of Asian Americans, an unprecedented 5-hour series on the Asian American experience that airs on PBS in May 2020. The first-ever television history of its kind, Asian Americans represents a collaboration of Asian American filmmakers, scholars, community, and public media, and will include a national engagement initiative, curriculum and website in addition to the television broadcast. She also produces online media projects that explore the history of Japanese American incarceration and resistance. Building History 3.0 is an interactive documentary and video game-based learning project on the World War II incarceration of Japanese Americans. The project is supported by the National Parks Service and the California Civil Liberties Public Education Fund. Tajima-Peña co-founded the Nikkei Democracy Project, a multi-generational multi-media collective that uses the power of the Japanese American imprisonment story to expose current threats to Constitutional rights.Tajima-Peña has been deeply involved in the Asian American independent film community as an activist, writer and filmmaker. Meet Kevin K. Nguyen!We celebrate Kevin's achievements in attaining his degrees in pursuit of his doctorate degree in higher education and student affairs. We support his work in supporting the students of Whittier College and beyond with particular focus on first generation students and those who come from lower income backgrounds. We are inspired by his pursuit of both knowledge and service, as he works to create and lead by example a body of leaders in higher education that truly reflects the rich diversity of our campuses. //Kevin Nguyen is a Student Data Specialist at Whittier College for Registrars Office. Kevin is also a Ph.D. Higher Education student in the School of Educational Studies at Claremont Graduate University (CGU). He earned his M.S in Counseling with an emphasis in Student Development in Higher Education from the California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and his B.A. in Communication Studies from Cal State University, Long Beach. Prior to his return to pursuing his doctoral studies, Kevin worked at UC Irvine as an Undergraduate Counselor for Information & Computer Sciences, where he advised and supported students from marginalized communities as they transitioned from high school/community college and into a university setting. Prior to working at UC Irvine, Kevin has worked over five community colleges (OCC, GWC, Coastline, Cypress, & Santa Ana College) within various facets in Student Services. His research interests focus on Equity and diversity issues in higher education, Talent/Leadership Development, Asian American professional/student population, community college, and Minority Leadership in higher education. Meet Phuc Tran!We celebrate Phuc sharing his story, filled with smiles, tears, and emotions, about this growing up in a foreign land with parents who often never understood him.We support his book and his decision to share his story, one that matters so much in helping Asian Americans and others feel like they are not alone in their immigrant and refugee journey.We are inspired by him being bold and taking the stage at TEDxDirigo 8 years ago, which ultimately led him to writing Sigh, Gone. Thank you for writing the book. //About Phuc, in his own words:"I was born in Sài Gòn Việt Nam, my family fled to America in 1975, and I grew up in Carlisle PA. Reared on a steady diet of Saturday morning cartoons, John Hughes, Star Wars, Bones Brigade videos, and bootlegged cassettes of Minor Threat and TSOL, I graduated high school in 1991. I majored in Classical Languages and Literature at Bard College—how did no one talk me out of that?—got my Master’s Degree at University of Massachusetts Amherst, and then moved to New York City in 1997.  There I apprenticed to be a tattooer while teaching Latin during the day, and I’ve been teaching and tattooing ever since.  I’ve never been good at staying in one lane—ask my wife about my driving.Following in the footsteps of E.B. White (who was neither a tattooer nor Latin teacher), my wife and I left the city and moved to Maine in 2003 (she’s an honest-to-goodness Mainer) where we opened our shop, Tsunami Tattoo.  In 2012, I delivered a TEDx talk which was highlighted by NPR’s TED Radio Hour.  The TEDx talk and its reception planted a seed in me for sharing more of my story as a refugee (of which I’d shared very little). I embarked on writing my memoir in 2016, and in 2020 SIGH, GONE will be published by Flatiron Books. Meet David Chen!We celebrate all of David's achievements from earning partnership at Deloitte while running multiple businesses, starting his own venture capital firm, and now advising the world's next generation through his involvement with eSports icons FaZeClan and NACL. We support his dedication to mentoring and advising the next generation of Asian American youth through his public speaking and podcast. We are inspired by his vision and work ethic and are grateful for him sharing his story and perspectives with Dear Asian Americans.  //About David: David has over 10 years of experience with a big 4 firm. He created and developed the Chinese Services Group for Deloitte Mexico. In 2010, David and his team were recognized by the global Deloitte firm and they won the prestigious "Standards of Excellence Award" for a 1 billion USD merger. David, at the age of 34, was one of the youngest partners at Deloitte, and worked on over 500 transactions with Fortune 500 companies. In 2015, David founded the Venture Capital Firm BLCP Capital with his partners. They purchased several entities, engaged in several transactions, raised capital, and managed /developed the operations and mergers of several companies. David, with his team, also managed several projects and consulted clients in the food, health, entertainment and real-estate industries. In 2017, David joined SparkleCOIN, a blockchain and cryptocurrency company, as CFO and VP of Business Strategy. David worked closely on the development and strategy of the company and is excited that SparkleCOIN is the first cryptocurrency with "real world" applications for p2p and b2b transactions. SparkleCOIN is a self pre-funded operation and has its own fully developed blockchain. SparkleCOIN had a successful ICO in December ending at $37. David worked As Vice President of business strategy, he also works on business development, financial strategies, blockchain development for business use, blockchain implementation, blockchain strategy, ICO consulting, and client development for business use. David started the group GTIF Capital and is partnered with several major businesses in the E Sports, Technology, health care, brand and real-estate sector.
