#9 Panic, panic, panic

I'm also full of panic about the absolute horror and shame I will feel when they are in here. My initial reaction to that the appointment was panic, panic, panic, and then I just froze.  I was paralysed for days, I knew what needed to be done, I didn't know how to do it.  For the full show notes and transcript for this episode, visit the website at Overcome Compulsive Hoarding. #7 Resisting the lure of pretty boxes - or stop buying storage to store your junk

If you're listening, and you're struggling with hoarding and you haven't got rid of 75% of your stuff already, then listen to me: “Don't get the pretty basket, don't get the shelving unit, and don't get the pretty bags. Not just yet, anyway. Hold out, as it is just more clutter”. For the full show notes and transcript for this episode, visit the website at Overcome Compulsive Hoarding. #6 So do we just pick a room and start?

Thinking of compulsive hoarders, thinking of people whose homes are in quite a mess, then just saying, “I'm going to work on the bedroom” is just too big. It's too overwhelming. It's too difficult to do. For the full show notes and transcript for this episode, visit the website at Overcome Compulsive Hoarding. #5 A moment of despair in the middle of the night

I can't tell you how dejected I feel right now. Because sorting out a few boxes in one room is one thing. It's better than not sorting out a few boxes in one room. But that's one room of several. And that's a few boxes out of a gazillion boxes.  For the full show notes and transcript for this episode, visit the website at Overcome Compulsive Hoarding. #4 Why hoarding TV shows are a disaster

Programmes about hoarders exist so that viewers can look into the home of somebody who's struggling and laugh at them. And that's not okay. #3 My experience of having CBT for hoarding disorder

I was sceptical because the initial CBT sessions had been relatively useless. But equally, I had no other options. There aren't exactly hoarding treatments readily available. So I agreed to be referred on for this more in-depth therapy. For the full show notes and transcript for this episode, visit the website at Overcome Compulsive Hoarding. #2 The stigma that surrounds hoarding disorder | Overcome Compulsive Hoarding with That Hoarder

So, I hate the word hoarding. I hate the word hoarder. I resist saying them unless I absolutely have to. And this podcast and the website are kind of forcing me into getting used to those words, and I suspect that's a good thing. But they are difficult words.  It's a very, very stigmatised thing.  Website: Overcome Compulsive Hoarding Twitter: @ThatHoarder Facebook: Overcome Compulsive Hoarding with That Hoarder Support this project Support the show Hosted on Acast. #1 How I Got Here | Overcome Compulsive Hoarding with That Hoarder

So I guess the place to start really is how I got to where I'm at now. Where I'm at now is that I live in a hoarded house, surrounded by crap that I have a lot of mental blocks around getting rid of.  I'm sick of how I live. But fixing it is so overwhelming that I don't know what to do. For the full show notes and transcript for this episode, visit the website at Overcome Compulsive Hoarding.
