A number of years ago, I shocked people, when I announced, I was going to stop production of my award-winning podcast – The Ambitious Entrepreneur Show.  (What shocked me, was following my announcement I received several messages asking whether I’d be interested in selling it. I had no idea anyone would see that much value in what I had created and would even consider asking whether I would sell it to them, which is a story for another day). In this week’s podcast episode, I want to share the mistakes I made with my podcast that led me to stop production, so you can avoid making the same mistakes with your coaching business podcast. 22. Build Reputation Equity NOT Vanity Numbers

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #22. Today’s tip is something that many businesses who are starting a podcast get stuck focusing on. And, that is number of downloads. Just like number of followers across your social media platform, number of likes and comments on your social media posts. We love those numbers don’t we. The higher those numbers – the better. However, those numbers can so often be misleading. I’ve spoken to colleagues who have had to shut down their podcast – because they just couldn’t generate any business from it – despite their podcast having millions of downloads. You would have heard me share in tip #21 about the Podcast Positioning Quadrant and the quadrant of celebrity. While you may have a lot of followers and in the case of your podcast – a lot of downloads, it doesn’t mean you’re going to be able to monetise your message and have people hire you. So, my tip today is NOT to get stuck focusing on vanity numbers, but rather building Reputation Equity. Because reputation equity is bankable, vanity numbers are not.  What do I mean when I say Reputation Equity is bankable? Well, when you’ve got a reputation of bringing valuable insights and a reputation of delivering results in a specific area and there is a real need in that specific area that people are struggling with, when you have the right strategies in place, nurturing listeners into leads – people will hire you. If you’re a Coach and/or Consultant – who wants to eventually generate clients from the message and content you’re sharing so they invest in YOU, YOUR expertise, YOUR support – then it’s important to focus on building your reputation as a trusted authority, vs building your following. In fact, if you continue to build your reputation as a trusted authority and continue to share valuable content consistently, you’ll continue to build your audience. However, it may be a smaller niched audience, however far more engaged and more likely to take action as you continue to sew into their lives with the valuable content and message you share. So, build reputation equity – not vanity numbers, because as I’ve said before – your reputation is bankable. [Ep#382] 6 tips on what to do when your message isn't working and you feel like the world's best kept secret

When I first started my career coaching practice – the idea of helping people find a career they loved, was exciting. However, I soon learned what was less exciting, was everything leading up to the getting a client.  From marketing my business (which is even more complicated today for coaches due to the plethora of ways to market your business and many more coaches to compete with), having sales conversations, right through to being able to respond professionally to that cringe-worthy question, “How much do you charge?”  Thankfully, this was over two decades ago, and I’ve learned a lot over the years, which I’ve continued to apply within my podcasting and business coaching practice. 21. The Podcast Positioning Quadrant

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #21 In this tip, I want to introduce you to my Podcast Positioning Quadrant, which is a model I developed after observing what was happening with my podcasts, other podcast hosts as well as hosts from mainstream media. Now because you are listening to this #ListenerIntoLead tip and series, I’m assuming you are a business owner who wants to leverage your podcast to build your reach, your reputation as a trusted authority, as well as your revenue by being able to nurture listeners into leads. And there are a few things that need to be in place if you want to position yourself as a trusted authority on your podcast.  Your Audience AND your level of Authority To be seen as a trusted authority you want to have a high level of authority AND also have a highly engaged and highly niched audience.  I share more on my Profitable and Purposeful Podcasting Masterclass, which you can get access to (if you haven’t already) by going to: PodcastingWithPurpose.com/ListenerIntoLead. That’s PodcastingWithPurpose.com/ListenerIntoLead.However, for this tip, I’ll share what the four quadrants are.  Quadrant 1 is Entertainer, where you would have low audience and low authority. If you’re seen as an Entertainer, you’re going to find it really hard to generate leads and business from your podcast. Quadrant 2 is Celebrity, where you have high audience and low authority. So while you may have more of a following it’s still going to be difficult for you to be seen as a trusted authority and monetise your message.  Quadrant 3 is Expert, so this is high authority for the particular topic you are covering on the episode, however low audience. So you might have someone come and listen to your episode, but because there are some key strategies missing in your podcast strategy and irresistible listener experience – they won’t come back and listen to another episode, you’ve lost their attention, and they haven’t become subscribers. Now quadrant 4 is Trusted Authority. This is high on audience and high on authority. You’ve probably heard me say people come for the topic but return for the host – YOU, when you have the right strategy in place, the right elements to create that unique, uncopyable and irresistible listener experience.  Become that trusted authority on your podcast on the Podcast Positioning Quadrant.  I’ll see you in the next tip.  YOUR NEXT STEP:  Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online? 20. Finding the right podcast audience

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #20 Want to find the right audience for your podcast?You’ve probably heard many marketers say you need to share more content, across more platforms, with more frequency so our message can cut through the noise?  So, get your podcast across as many social media platforms as you can, as often as you can.  I disagree with this. Especially if you are a change maker and looking to position yourself as a trusted authority, a thought leader in your industry. While other marketing coaches are saying more, more, more, I’m saying LESS is more. Especially when it comes to your podcast. So, not MORE social media platforms, but the RIGHT platform.  And, when it comes to the right platform for you – it's finding out where the majority of your ideal clients are hanging out and then making sure you are focusing on that platform or those platforms. Rather than being distracted and being stretched too thin because you are trying to share your podcasts across as many social media platforms as you can.   Where does your client hang out?  What are they interested in learning more about?   What’s their most pressing need that you can speak into?  If you’re targeting a cold audience on that platform, how do they prefer to consume your content – in a bit size piece, followed by a link where they can listen to the full show?  Do they prefer to read first, rather than say an audiogram?  Or will you use a combination of micro content to bring your new audience back to your full episode?  So, where do you find the right podcast audience? On the platforms your ideal client hangs out. Because the right podcast audience IS an audience of your ideal clients.  Get clear on who your ideal client is and then go out and find out where they’re hanging out. 19. Compelling communication techniques for podcast hosts

Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #19. Today’s tip is about developing compelling communication techniques. I could spend an entire day on this topic, so for now I want to share in what areas do you want to hone your communication skills and how these can make a difference in the overall success of your podcast. In terms of success – with compelling communication techniques, not only will you enhance the relationship, while continue to build know, like and trust with your audience, for those listeners who are ready, with the right communication and call to action, you’ll be able to get your ideal client, your listener off the podcast and onto your list. Everytime. So in what areas can you leverage and develop your communication skills?   Interacting with and guiding the conversation with your guest, no matter what their communication style. You’ll know exactly how to communicate with even the most difficult of guests – from the talkative guests, to the guest who answers in two-word sentences, right through to the spammy guests who continues to promote their books and programs  Knowing when to dive deeper into a topic to unpack it more  Being able to segue seamlessly to the next topic  Knowing when and how to interject when a guest is going off topic or taking too long in answering their question  Knowing what keywords and phrases will resonate best with your audience  Knowing how to seed and lead with integrity. This is one of the strategies I teach clients and when done well, for those listeners who are ready to take that next step – they will, because you have strategically included the right content in just the right place, you’ve built interest and intrigue and for those change makers and action takers – that call to action is just what they needed to hear.  These are just some of the ways you can integrate compelling communique techniques into each and every podcast episode as you continue to build know, like and trust with your audience and nurture listeners into leads.  By the way, if you’d like to improve your communication techniques I’ve created my course: Interviewing with Purpose. [Ep#379] Strategy & Tactic(s): Why both matter when growing your coaching business

Recently, I had conversations with three coaches who were experiencing different challenges that stemmed from the same core issue – a core issue that can keep many coaches stuck.  It’s something I struggled with for many years, which sent me off on a wild goose chase of more courses and training, different business focuses, and what felt like an exhausting treadmill of action taking, but never really being able to build the momentum I needed to grow my business to the level I wanted.  Perhaps it’s something you can relate to as well?  Here are the three challenges, let’s see if you’re able to relate to either of these:   You’ve worked with a coach who has helped you put together a marketing tactic (i.e. a webinar funnel), however it’s not really generating the results you wanted, you’re not currently leveraging the tactic, and you’re unsure you’re targeting the ideal client who you want to continue working with.   The marketing tactic you’re doing to fill your pipeline has left you burned out (i.e. live launching) and you’re questioning whether you still want to work with the ideal client your live launch was targeting.   The marketing tactic you’re doing is working, however because it relies heavily on you, it’s going to be hard to scale, as there is only one of you.   Can you relate to either of these frustrating scenarios?  The underlying core issue of each of these three challenges has to do with Strategy and Tactic. Specifically, the lack of an overall strategy, which has led to the wrong tactic being implemented, which has led to the challenges they were facing.  While the topic of strategy and tactic may seem boring – as the title of this article states – Strategy and Tactic matter. Because without a clearly-defined strategy and correctly-planned tactic, you could continue to follow each of the latest marketing trends, try out every new bright shiny technology claimed to be ‘THE answer’ that’s just hit the market, and still continue to struggle to build the momentum you need to build a successful business. That’s because adopting a tactic without the right strategy doesn’t work nor does adopting the wrong tactic for the stage that you’re in with your business, or your business model. Hi, this is Annemarie, and welcome to another #ListenerIntoLead podcast tip for coaches and consultants who want to launch a podcast to nurture listeners into leads, get clients and build their business with their podcast. This is tip #18 Today I want to speak about what I mean when I speak about being Uncopyable. To me and what I’m supporting my clients in identifying are all of the unique and uncopyable elements about who they are, along with their journey and experience that no-one else can copy. It’s uncopyable because it isn’t their history, their story, their journey. It’s YOUR’s and yours's alone. Recently, I heard a business owner share that she attended a training and the facilitator told attendees – if you don’t have an interesting story – just make one up. I don’t know about your definition of ‘make something up.’ However, making something up – faking it till you make it – is a deception, a lie.  And, as the Change Maker I know you are – you don’t need to fake it till you make it, nor do you make something up. You just need to dig deeper and uncover the unique and uncopyable aspects that make you – YOU. Now, when it comes to creating a uncopyable and irresistible Listener experience there are two more things I want to talk about in this tip that will help you create that uncopyable and irresistible listener experience. Those two things are your Characteristics (or character traits) and Mannerisms. Some other character traits could be honest, brave, bold, compassionate, lead, courageous, loyal.  Why are these irresistible? Because they resonate with your ideal client – your listener. Your style and approach – your character and mannerisms are something your listener can relate to and appreciates and is the reason why people come for the topic and return for the host – YOU. You may be speaking about similar topics as other podcasts – BUT the way in which you bring this information to life – your style, your approach, your character and mannerisms. So, today, take some time to reflect on some of your unique characteristics and mannerisms and bring this out intentionally and purposefully in each and every episode to create that unique, uncopyable and irresistible listener experience. I’ll see you in the next tip. YOUR NEXT STEP:  Are you a coach or consultant who is struggling to stand out online?
