In Conversation with Lizzy Hoo
Em befriended Lizzy Hoo a year ago while working at The Melbourne Comedy Festival’s Great Debate. As you’ll hear inside, it's been a while since they acted on their new found friendship, but at least when they eventually did, they invited us to be there to listen in, HUZZAH! Lizzy is a writer, equal parts noodle and pie enthusiast, designer, actor, sport enthusiast and a stand up comedian who recently hosted the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala, which is now streaming on ABC iView. Inside she’ll reveal how she and Em first met, why she did the pivot from her day job working as an account manager in marketing to becoming a full time stand up comedian. There’s also her “successful” stint doing poetry recitals at Eisteddfods, her YouTube famous brother, her father being a lot like Em’s Dad Vincie and her journey to a career in stand up. It’s a delightfully funny ride that you’ll thoroughly enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Elio’s Easter, Beyonce’s Country Carter, Lindsay Lohan’s Irish Wish
We start with the fact Em has a cold sore, but we’re not actually allowed to acknowledge it, or look at it, we also have issues with the use of the word ‘awareness’ instead of ‘acceptance’ in the labelling of ‘Autism Awareness Day’. There’s a negative Airbnb review to reflect, then we get into Elio’s Easter origin and Easter bunny questions, and his issues with his Easter Egg Hunt, plus Michael reveals his Mum’s bleak easter traditions too. After that we get the full debrief on how Em, Michael and Marchella approached their consuming of ‘Renaissance: Part II” with ‘Cowboy Carter’ from Beyoncé. Naturally that also means they’ll talk through their favourite tracks, make hot tips on what’s next touring wise, favourite cameos, country music facts and how the CMA’s will deal with it all come award season again. Finally, there’s the latest romantic comedy for Netflix from Lindsay Lohan called ‘Irish Wish’ for them to review. It appears that no actual Irish people were harmed, or even featured in the movie, but it does come with a mystical Wish Bish and a lot of other whack features you’re sure to enjoy. Then in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em, Michael and Marchella do a full track by track review of Beyoncé’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ from beginning to end, although their interest wanes near the end, because...27 tracks to cover off.Sign up now to start listening at emsolation.supercast.com. Kate, Carlos and Cowboy Carter
We open with the news Kate Middleton is having treatment for cancer and how Em was right in her assumptions that we shouldn’t be speculating about BBL’s and the like. Especially when a woman is undergoing a medical treatment that we don’t have all the information on. Sending WTF thoughts to the Palace PR team and speculating on Kate’s marriage to Prince William though, still falls into an open season situation. Then we pivot into an update on Em and Vincie’s Friday inside the Mercedes AMG tent at the F1 Grand Prix, with a side quest into female F1 drivers and why Vincie doesn’t trust optometrists anymore. Em and her daughters went to a family friend's 21st birthday where they witnessed some truly awful DJ work, which inspired Michael to reveal he’s wrapped on Season 3 of ‘The Newsreader’ and spent the weekend DJ-ing the wrap up party too. Then it’s back to Sunday at the F1, with a side of airport lounge downgrades thrown in. Finally, Beyoncé is due to drop her country music album this weekend, which side quests on Em’s rogue Instagram posts, Emsolators commentating on Beyoncé’s singing ability, and more sing-ger, vocalist, entertainers and singers chat too. Plus, in our Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael talk about Rebel Wilson naming Sasha Baron Cohen as the celeb trying to stop her publishing her memoir, something that REALLY connected with Em. Michael Gets Epically Rear Ended
It’s the SMS that brought much delight to Em, Michael got rear ended by a truck on his way to work, and sent an “I’ve been epically rear ended” message to alert Em to that fact. You’ll hear all about it as we start the pod, with a side quest on Beyoncé being a capitalist by name dropping brands in her songs. Then it’s onto Em’s newest obsession, Guy Richie’s new Netflix TV series ‘The Gentlemen’, which is light years better than the bad accents we get in his original movie version of ‘The Gentlemen’. Somehow that spins off into Em regaling us with all the saucy hookups she witnessed happening between the gay men at her local swimming pool, with added recollections from Michael. There’s the upcoming Anne Hathaway movie ‘The Idea Of You’ to get excited about, plus props for Emma Thompson’s ‘Good Luck To You, Leo Grande’. We also get mental side quests on sing-gers and Kylie and Madonna on stage together and separating an artist's problematic history from their art. Then in the Sealed Section, on our premium service Emsolation Extra, Em and Michael update their thoughts and feels on the Kate Middleton situation, talk Oprah’s upcoming weight loss doco and there’s even more F1 frothing to deliver. Em & Chella Talk Oscars, Drag Queens & Wicked The Musical
This week Michael Lucas is away filming his final scenes for Season 3 of his multi-award winning TV series ‘The Newsreader’, so stepping in to replace him is Em’s eldest daughter Marchella. Together they’ll talk through their fave moments from the 2024 Oscar Awards, covering everything from Jimmy Kimmel’s monologue to John Cena’s guttering, Ryan Gosling’s ‘I’m Just Ken’ performance, plus Jonathan Glazer’s speech, Emma Stone, Ariana Grande, Al Pacino, Mark Ruffalo, Lily Gladstone and a bunch of other stuff too. Then it’s onto Em’s night out at a local Drag Show with her daughters, where Odie managed to bring all the chaos on stage, while the audience around them offered up some very unique chaos of their own. Finally we need to revisit Em's emotional support musical ‘Wicked’. On the weekend Em and Chella attended the show AGAIN and they have a bunch of very specific feedback for the audience, as well as mad props for the amazing cast. We also get a taster of today’s Sealed Section from our premium service Emsolation Extra. Em and Chella talk through all the planning and the eventual last minute cancelling of Chella’s decision to attend Pitch. Why did Chella decide to attend an electronic music festival in the bush, when she doesn’t like electronic music, or festivals, or camping, or dust? F1, Miley Cyrus, Rihanna, Vacuum Cleaners & Italian Dog DNA
Before we even get an intro out we drop chats about Em’s new glasses, Jennifer Saunders not recognising her own Ab Fab daughter, Saffy, aka Julia Sawalha on The Masked Singer, and a side quest about the TV series ‘Press Gang’. Once the intro is done, it’s onto Em’s love language, F1. Michael just has to endure it, safe to say his facial expressions express his interest throughout. Then it’s onto the drama inside Miley Cyrus’ family, with Billy Ray now married to a woman who auditioned for Hannah Montana 14 years ago and is 28 years his junior, and her mum Tish marrying her sister Noah’s ex-boyfriend, it’s giving messy. We pivot to Miley’s new song ‘Doctor (Work It Out)’ and Katy Perry’s career demise, then into our respect for Rihanna giving the bare minimum of a performance at a Billionaire’s wedding over the weekend. We tease our Emsolation Extra Sealed Section episode on Kate Middleton’s disappearance and Em’s theory that Camilla is pulling a ‘Saltburn’. Then it’s into vacuum cleaner talk and why Em won’t let her husband Scott use their new carpet sucker, with a side quest inspired by Em’s Mum calling while we record, an update on Italy’s new DNA solution to rogue dog poop, and some bag of lollies chat. Dune: Part 2, J’Lo, Scomo, The SAGS & Mardi Gras
Your introduction to this episode covers everything from American Idol shock eliminations, to Elio discovering the delights of mooning and Michael Lucas sharing his name with a gay pornstar, so chefs kiss for all of that. Then we deep dive into Em’s spoiler free review of ‘Dune: Part 2’. Expect much giant worm chat and everything else in between, from who was giving act-TOR on the IMAX screen, to if Austin Butler brought Elvis along for the ride.Michael then goes against type by turning up with content, and it’s the kind of content we live for. Yes, it is about J’Lo’s movie musical ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ and yes we were shook and utterly delighted by every detail. There’s also Scott Morrison’s farewell speech, and the continuing train wreck of Donald Trump’s campaigning to touch on, before we pick and choose our favourite bits of the SAG Awards. However if you’re keen to hear Em and Michael ‘Okay, Stop!’ Barbra Streisand’s lifetime achievement acceptance speech, you’ll need to head to our premium service Emsolation Extra. Finally there’s Em’s upcoming birthday and some Mardi Gras chat to see us out.Get BONUS eps & other perks with Emsolation Extra https://emsolation.supercast.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Taylor Killjoys, Ariana & Mariah’s Whistle Tone & J’Lo’s Movie & Doco
Did somebody say gimme all the divas, because we’re at capacity when it comes to the ladies of pop bringing their main character energy to the pod this week. We start with a full recap of the first weekend of Taylor Swift’s Era’s Tour in Australia. Seems some people aren’t feeling the love and are trying to kill the joy that Swifties have been exhibiting and we are having none of that. Then it’s onto the internet being super supportive of the return of Mariah Carey’s whistle tone, as displayed on her new duet of ‘Thank U, Next’ wth Ariana Grande. We’re fully here for it, but we also think that Ariana might be doing more of the vocal heavy lifting than you’d expect. Finally, Em and Michael spent their Sunday watching J’Lo’s new movie ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ together and they have MUCH to discuss. They also follow that up by sitting down to ‘Okay, Stop!’ the trailer for Jen’s upcoming documentary ‘Greatest Love Story Never Told’, which details the making of her self financed musical opus. It’s safe to say that we’re more excited for that, than we were for the movie it apparently documents. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Beyonce, Usher, Wicked & AACTA Awards Goss
This week all of pop culture decided to unleash all of its everything, all at once and none of us are coping very well. So after admitting to being untethered and unmedicated, Em takes us through a recap of their trip to the Gold Coast for the AACTA Awards, where Michael picked up another award, and Em realised she probably didn’t even need to be there, more on that inside. We follow that up with Beyonce deciding to drop Act 2 of her Renaissance offering’s, right after Usher’s Football concert at the Super Bowl, because Beyonce can do whatever she likes mmmkay. There’s so much to discuss, we start with Usher’s efforts centre stage, but then quickly pivot to Beyonce, with a side quest into playing ‘Okay, Stop!’ with the trailer for the upcoming movie of the Broadway musical ‘Wicked’. There’s much more Beyonce discussion to follow, with cameos from Tina Knowles, Meryl Streep, Jay Z and even some “will Travis Kelce be in Australia with Taylor Swift” chat too. Then there’s Em’s B.O.G. from Fashion Critical, props for Lara from Zhivago for the dress and a delightful discussion about Michelle Lim Davidson to see us out. We also give you a sneaky peek of our Sealed Section after the credits, where Em and Michael talk through J’Lo’s much anticipated film ‘This Is Me…Now: A Love Story’ exclusively for our premium service, Emsolation Extra. AACTA Awards Prep, A Grammy Recap & Britney vs Justin
Get your clacker out (this will make sense when you listen) and get ready for another side-quest riddled edition of the pod. To begin with we need to cover off Em’s apparently excellent skin, for her age, how very DARE THEY! Then it’s on to the upcoming AACTA Awards where Em and Michael are both nominated for awards, huzzah! We’ve got outfits to tease, shoes that probably won’t arrive, and a pre-awards ceremony info sheet that is giving all of the facts a spicy brained nominee could dream of, bless. Then it’s onto the Grammy Award rundown no one asked for, where we talk everything from Trevor Noah’s brilliant hosting to Miley Cyrus on stage with Mariah Carey, plus Taylor Swift snubbing Celine Dion, Jay Z dropping truth bombs with Blue Ivy and so much more. There’s also a feast of mental side-quests about Season 2 of ‘The Gilded Age’, Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Vampire’, Taylor’s new album announcement and a bunch of other stuff we can’t even remember right now. Finally, it’s onto the full rundown of the argy-bargy currently happening between Britney Spears and her ex, Justin Timberlake, including the rumours JT is about to do a sit down tell all with Oprah Winfrey, oooh err and other clutching of pearls, so have at it lovelies.
