Mid-Life. Motherhood. Mental Load.

An Easter meme comparing the to-do list of Mums and Dads triggered a huge response from Emsolators and Em has some thoughts on why the mental load on Mothers has reached a tipping point and what to do next. We also need to talk all the behind the scenes action of Em’s appearance at the Melbourne International Comedy Debate, how Annabel Crabb connected Em to the one and only Penny Wong, and who labelled Em and John Safran’s debate responses as sophisticated. We’re addicted to a brand new Netflix series that’s unpleasant to watch, but we just can’t look away, called ‘Beef’. Elio is a gamer with a serious Nintendo Mario Kart Odyssey addiction and he’s not afraid to issue sleepy muttered threats about it, plus Taylor Swift calls an end to her relationship and Michael kinda sorta promotes his upcoming new season of ‘5 Bedrooms’. There’s even a little side quest about a neighbourhood Easter tribute fashioned out of chicken wire, so just your standard podcast episode really. Learn more about your ad choices. I Wish You Well

Like a casual remark whispered in the ear of the man you just destroyed in a televised courtroom drama, this episode is guaranteed to get inside your head. Yes we’ll talk all things legal with Gwyneth winning her court case and Donald Trump being dragged before a Judge for his own mea culpa moment. There’s Em’s kindergarten confessions to work through, then we need to find out what went down when Em encountered Vogue Australia on the red carpet and Geena Davis behind a velvet rope at the launch for the Goddess exhibition at the ACMI in Melbourne. Also, after Em dropped her Croc appreciation confession on last week’s episode, she’s prepared to up the ante and offer up another one of her shock confessions slash backflip. Then there's the creative emergency her middle child Odie dropped in her lap with less than 24 hours before it's deadline. Finally we squeeze in a high speed Grand Prix update, that spins off into a One Direction side quest that somehow evolves into an Emsolation sealed section discussion on a seggual practice that rhymes with shitake. So unlike a mushroom that’s kept in the dark and fed you know what, we are giving you AMPLE warning that things get even more heckers than you’d ever expect inside this episode. I know right, I bet you can hardly wait huh, so enjoy. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Helicopters, Skiing and F1

Strap in for a true taster of the lifestyles of the rich and famous as we reflect on some of the fantabulous transport options celebs have delivered for us to chat about this week. First though we need to allow Em some space to talk about how she’s allowed Crocs into her life, good luck everyone, plus Elio and his very specific lunchbox demands make an appearance, huzzah! Once that’s sorted we’ll reveal all of our favourite moments from the utterly bizarre court case surrounding a 2016 collision on the ski slopes of Utah between Gwyneth Paltrow and retired optometrist Terry Sanderson. Did someone say “I lost half a day of skiing” yes, yes they most certainly did. We follow that with all the gloriousness that is Sofiia Coppola’s 16 year old daughter, Romy Mars, who’s become the internet’s new favourite nepo baby. Romy posted a hectic TikTok about being grounded for trying to order a helicopter to fly her bestie over for dinner, as you do, so obviously we got much chats to have. Then finally we need to get Michael around the fact that the Formula 1 Grand Prix is coming to Melbourne this weekend. Em is determined to improve his lack of knowledge of her niche special topic slash obsession and she’s not afraid to use Beyonce, Michelle and Kelly to make that happen. So expect a Destiny’s Child themed explain and a hardly surprising One Direction retort from Michael, yep we’re totally giving you everything you’d expect from an Emsolation episode, go us! Leopard Print Snatch

Huzzah to Michael for that episode title, naturally you’ll get the full context once you start listening, go us for not providing any spoilers within this description. This week Em proves how good an investment her inflatable wang is turning out to be ever since she bought it for her Evil Queen comedy tour. Then Michael joins us from overseas to trigger Em’s fears of prehistoric ocean creatures and rogue drug busts. Em reveals the rash decision she made 6 months ago that is now coming back to haunt her, and as a result is placing her entire household under duress and has left Michael scared for her family. After that we need to download all the whack info and delightful insights that Gwyneth Paltrow gifted us whilst appearing on a health and wellness podcast. Finally there’s a state election happening in NSW and it hasn’t garnered as much interest as it normally would for our favourite political nerds, you’ll find out why and get all those other delightful morsels within. Good for Gaga

It’s a ‘Good for Her’ extravaganza and we start with some unexpected props for Em from one of the world’s best pop songwriters. Then it’s on to celebrating Lady Gaga’s emotional Oscars tour de force, from her butt baring arrival look and paparazzi tripping incident, to her makeup free introduction and performance of her Oscar nominated ‘Top Gun Maverick’ song ‘Hold My Hand’. We are also living for Nicole Kidman’s facial work on the ‘champagne’ carpet and Angela Bassett’s reaction to Jamie Lee Curtis winning an Oscar. Finally it’s all about the brand new album and backyard performance doco from Miley Cyrus, Lindsay Lohan being pregnant and Madonna hot new boyfriend, her best yet according to Em, plus somehow we manage to slide in more Barbra Streisand references too, because of course we do. I Work in a Bakery

It’s Em’s birthday week so we open with 4 things Em’s learnt at 44, so maybe get a pen and some paper, or open your notes app before you get started. Then we need to reflect on all things World Pride and Mardi Gras with Michael joining us for this pod from Sydney, which means he’s been inhaling all of the gay, all at once. Speaking of campery, Em and Michael took in the Harry Styles concert in Melbourne. They have huge props for the Stylers audience and not so much respect for the boomers at the Elton John concert. Also, inspired by the news that two women were invited backstage after the Harry Styles show, Em spent minutes crafting some Harry related fan fiction of what happened next. Naturally Em and Michael are totes going to bring it to life, with Em playing narrator and one of the lucky backstage ladies called Louisa, and Michael playing the security guard and Harry “I work in a bakery” Styles. It’s not saucy AT ALL, but it is everything you didn’t know you needed. Finally we need to talk about Elio finding his “artwork” in the fire and why it struck a chord with so many parents, which also inspires Michael to reveal just how brutal his mum could be when it came to feedback of his creative efforts as a child. Representation Matters

This episode is different from what we normally deliver, for one we won’t be talking about any rogue wangs or celebrity happenings, although Michael does still manage to reference peen, and also slide in his Oprah Winfrey and Barbara Walters impressions early on to lighten the load. Em found herself in the press this week with her Autism diagnosis being called into question after praising a venue for having a sensory room available. So she and Michael decided to tackle it all head on. We’ll cover off everything from what inspired Em to go through the process of getting her formal Autism diagnosis, how it presents for Em and what it feels like when you’re accused of lying about it for clout. Then there’s the problems around the lack of research in the field of female presentation of Autism, labels like “high functioning” and “low functioning” and why Em feels she still has to talk about all of this, even though it feels like the last thing she wants to do right now. It's a very important episode that will no doubt hit you in the feels, but it’s important to reflect on this experience and remind everyone again why representation always matters. It’s Fast and Furious, But For Bums

We begin this episode with birthday wishes for Em’s daughter Odie who’s turning 16 on the day this podcast drops, Em also offers up her fave Odie story to celebrate. Then Michael joins us to reveal the most spectacular outfit ever, make sure you check out the proof on the Emsolation Instagram page. Two weeks ago Em accused him of being a gay who had given up when he turned up in a t-shirt and ripped jean shorts to record the podcast. This week he delivered his spiteful farshun clapback using 70’s David Bowie at a variety show appearance, and Lady Gaga in her Kermit outfit as inspo. We follow that with our thoughts on Rihanna’s half time footy concert at the Superbowl. It had more layers than we ever imagined, from pregnancy rumours before she’d officially announced it, to some off tap conspiracy theories that she was ushering in Satan. Turns out Em was on point with her thoughts on what Rihanna was trying to say with her performance too. Michael spent Sunday reducing an audience to tears while reading a speech to his younger self, you’ll hear the entire thing within, plus why Em thinks it’s a really important speech to hear. Finally, it would seem Gen Z would much rather have no sex scenes in their favourite TV series and movies because it makes them feel uncomfortable. Em and Michael aren’t even sure if this is actually a thing, it’s also a safe bet they won’t be joining in the protest rally if it ever does become a thing either. So settle in for all of that, as well as a rather casual admission that naturally inspired the title of this episode, job well done. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
