Lisa Tallman – Because You Need To Know

Lisa Tallman is a knowledge management strategist dedicated to social good. She is Sr. Director of Knowledge Management at YMCA of the USA, the national resource office for YMCA’s across the United States. She ensures YMCAs have access to knowledge, tools, and resources to collaborate to strengthen their local communities. Prior to joining the Y, Lisa worked for Grant Thornton, an accounting and advisory firm, where she was part of a team that instituted KM from scratch- developing processes, training team members to manage knowledge, and building a new technology platform. She has spent almost 15 years defining and shaping knowledge management for both for-profit and non-profit organizations. Lisa earned an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a Master’s Degree in English focused on Technical Communication from Eastern Michigan University. At Chicago Booth, she was chair of a student group that provided consulting services for nonprofits. This experience coupled with her work at the Y has allowed her to see how knowledge management adds value to large and small non-profits alike.

David Gurteen – Because You Need to Know

David Gurteen is a keynote speaker and conversational facilitator. He works in the fields of knowledge management, organizational learning and conversational leadership. He gives keynote talks, designs and facilitates Knowledge Cafés and runs workshops around the world. He is best known as the creator of the Gurteen Knowledge Café – a conversational process to bring a group of people together to learn from each other and make better sense of a rapidly changing, complex world. He is the founder of the Gurteen Knowledge Community – a global network of over 22,000 people in 160 countries. This conversation was recorded on February 17th 2016.

Kimberly LaMendola – Because you Need to Know

Edwin K. Morris is the President and founder of Pioneer Knowledge Services, America’s first knowledge management nonprofit. Edwin is the host of, “Because you need to know". This program serves the mission to educate and bring awareness around knowledge management. Join in as knowledge management and innovation with in western NY is explored. Ms. Kimberly LaMendola is the Local Food Projects Manager and Regional Development Coordinator for the regional planning and development organization, Southern Tier West. She serves constituents of Western NY specifically in Allegany, Cattaraugus, and Chautauqua Counties. She helps farmers and food producers to expand consumer markets, increase demand for local food products, and cooperatively market and promote regional food items. Kimberly also serves as the region’s coordinator for the area development grant program sponsored by the Appalachian Regional Commission and is very active in developing eligible projects that will benefit the region’s economic vibrancy.

Sr. Margaret Carney is the 20th President of St. Bonaventure University and a member of the Sisters of St. Francis headquartered in Syracuse, New York. During her time as president she has served on the boards of the Council of Independent Colleges of New York state, Alvernia University in Reading, Pa., the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities and the Association of Francicsan Colleges and Universities. Her special study interests include medieval women’s history, theology, policy process studies and strategic planning. She resides in Olean, New York and is a native of Pittsburgh, Pa. Kelly Dodd has worked with 2-1-1 Western New York since its launch in 2007, at first as a program of the Central Referral Service and now with the Olmsted Center for Sight…a result of the merger of Central Referral Service into Olmsted. She is concerned with access to services, especially for low income or disadvantaged populations. Kelly serves on the board of the New York State affiliate of the Alliance of Information & Referral Systems, NYSAIRS and the WNY Coalition for the Homeless. Kelly volunteers with the Free Tax Preparation network and has also volunteered as a Citizenship Tutor with Journey’s End Refugee Services. She credits her mother for her awareness of social justice issues.
