Today I will be speaking with Tosin Oshinowo, Nigerian native and founder of CMDesign Atelier. She has an impressive background that includes design and architectural degrees from Kingston College in London, a degree in urban design from the Bartlett School of Architecture Architectural Diploma from the AA, and more recently curator of the 2nd Lagos Biennial, Sharjah Architecture Triennial. Using her creative design skill, and strong ties to the Lagos arts and culture scene, Tosin designs period statement pieces with African contemporary flair. As the founder of the architectural consulting company, CMDesign Atelier, Oshinowo and her team have curated impeccable designs from corporate to creative projects personalized to their clients' tastes. 191: The Architecture Education Revolution with Neal Shasore

Today I will be speaking with Neal Shasore, the chief executive and head of school at The London School of Architecture, Trustee of the Twentieth Century Society and the Architectural Heritage Fund, and an architectural historian focussing on architectural culture in the first half of the twentieth century in Britain and the empire. He is also a leading expert on the history and evolution of the profession - I saw him speak on a tour of the RIBA years ago. Neal previously worked at the RIBA, the University of Westminster, the University of Liverpool, and the University of Oxford. He is particularly passionate about diversifying architectural education, heritage and practice. An architectural historian by training, his research and writing has primarily focussed on architectural culture in Britain and the Empire in the first half of the twentieth century and this critical perspective informs his own pedagogy and practice. Today I have the pleasure of speaking with Tanisha Raffiuddin, the Founder and Creative Director of Concept Culture, a specialist branding and marketing agency for the built environment sector. Tanisha helps built environment organizations strategically grow their brand and business by tapping into the power of storytelling. As a trained architect, Tanisha has over 15 years of combined experience in architectural practice, at AJ100 firms, as a contributor at The Architects' Journal, and as a communications consultant to sustainability organizations, including the Passivhaus Trust, Good Homes Alliance, and the Sustainable Development Foundation. She also assisted with the publication of London 2012 Sustainable Design: Delivering a Games Legacy. Tanisha's work sits at the intersection of architecture, sustainability, and communications. 186: Future is a Journey to the Past with Mario Cucinella

Hello and welcome to the Business of Architecture. This week I have the great pleasure of sitting down with Mario Cucinella at his new exhibition at the Architectural Association: The Future is a Journey to the Past - Stories about Sustainability which opened on the 21st of September. Mario is an Honorary AIA Fellow and was also awarded an International Fellowship by the RIBA. He started his firm, Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA), in Paris in 1992 later expanding it into Bologna in 1999, following architectural studies at the University of Genoa and working at Renzo Piano Building Workshop. His main mission is to design and create his masterpieces in a way that not only reduces environmental impact but also conserves energy. The practice is very interesting on Net Zero and the studio is known for having designed the first 3D printed house made of raw earth. They also run a School of Sustainability (SOS) collaborating with the Architectural Association. He started his firm, Mario Cucinella Architects (MCA), in Paris in 1992 later expanding it into Bologna in 1999, following architectural studies at the University of Genoa and working at Renzo Piano Building Workshop. His main mission is to design and create his masterpieces in a way that not only reduces environmental impact but also conserves energy. In 2018 Mario curated the "Arcipelago Italia" in the Italian Hall at the 16th International Architecture Exhibition and in 2019 launched 'Mario Cucinella Design' and the 'Building Objects Collection' which were inspired by his architecture projects. His work includes the Center for Sustainable Energy Technologies in Ningbo, China, the Town Hall in Bologna, and "La Balena" a nursery school in Guastalla, which replaced the public nursery school that was damaged in the 2012 earthquake. 184: Making Recruitment Fairer, Faster and Easy with James Pickard

James Pickard co-founded Cartwright Pickard with Peter Cartwright in 1997 and now runs the London office. He has been the lead on a number of award winning and pioneering projects. He has market-leading skills in housing design, with a particular strength in developing buildable, viable schemes for challenging and complex urban sites and has helped the practice to develop a reputation for innovation and the practical use of offsite construction methods, with a particular focus on lean, low carbon solutions, air quality and wellbeing. James has a passion for research and has carried out a number of government funded research projects including the potential for 7D BIM, as well as a running a current KTP with the Royal College of Art on designing for Later Living. James was on the main board of Constructing Excellence from 2005-07 and has been an assessor for several industry award schemes, including having been a jury member of the World Architecture Festival Awards for several years. He was made an Honorary Professor at the Glasgow School of Art for his contributions to the Mackintosh School of Architecture. James is also the founder of Tessellate.co a disruptor platform in the recruitment space which seeks to solve many of the problems that architectural businesses face when recruiting from high recruiter fees, the enormous amount of wasted time spent on hiring and receiving a poor match. The platform seeks to empower both candidate and employer and provides a fair and bias free process to candidate selection. 183: Balancing Beauty with Business with Alberto Campo Baeza

This week's episode was quite an honor as I had the privilege to sit down with an impactful and important figure of Spanish Modernism: Alberto Campo Baeza. Though he doesn't look it, Alberto is 75 years old and still producing extraordinary buildings, including THE ROBERT OLNICK PAVILION in upstate NY, along with a number of stunning private homes around the world. He is a tenured Professor of more than 35 years, and an Emeritus Head Professor of Design, at the Madrid School of Architecture (ETSAM). He has also taught at the ETH in Zurich, the EPFL in Lausanne, L'Ecole d'Architecture in Tournai, Belgique, and many more in the United States. Alberto gives lectures worldwide, and has received significant recognition like the Torroja Award for his Caja Granada, the Award of the UPM University for his Excellence in Teaching, the Heinrich Tessenow Gold Medal, the RIBA International Fellowship 2014 of the Royal Institute of British Architects, and more. The list of acknowledgements, awards, publications, lectures goes on and on.
