576: Kenny G Crush, Stranded Vacation, & Snapped Murders

Today we discuss our show now that another year has passed. Are we in a never-ending time warp?? We hear about a documentary on Kenny G that was surprisingly incredible. We learn why jazz purists hate him, Chinese people love him, & Sarah has a crush on him. Susie describes a new luxury vacation where you are stranded in the wild and have to survive, and Sarah would love it. We discuss the update on Birds Aren't Real movement, and Sarah is worked up about it. We debate the virtues of plunge pools and "cold water communities." Susie discusses how the show Snapped is exploiting domestic violence victims, and we theorize why men do most of the world's killing. Plus, we talk to Dr. Nina Shapiro about her book The Ultimate Kids' Guide to Being Super Healthy! 575: Chicken Finger Emergency, Climbers, & Kangaroo Words

Today we hear why there's a chicken finger shortage, and we are panicked. Sarah does a documentary round-up and talks about why she wants to do some climbing challenges. Susie was getting all into her discussion about a new world record in mountain climbing when she remembered she hates people who climb mountains, so that threw a kink into the celebrations. Sarah has developed a new ASMR fetish, and made us listen to it, and it's hilarious. It's not even ASMR. It's just people talking about products who she is pretending are her new friends. We talk about why the Spotify wrap-up is such genius marketing, and Sarah is amazed that her musical aura matched her real life aura from Mystic Michaela. Plus, we find out what kangaroo words are, and Susie takes a pop quiz to see if she can spot them.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/574-576Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

574: Breastfeeding Cat, Mind Reading, & Janet Jackson Scandal

Today Susie confronts Sarah about her MIA status on social media, and Sarah claims it has something to do with Helena Bonham Carter. But she did confess to buying *8* pairs of overalls, and Susie had to do an intervention. A gynecologist asked people what changes they would like to see in their office, and the answers are amazing. Susie shares the latest science of mind reading, and it is freaking us out. There is even some hope that we can communicate with people in vegetative states, and it's so exciting. We learn that Adele does not have access to her social media and we debate whether this is reasonable or insane. We discuss a man who robbed a bank 50 years ago who was never caught, and why Susie wants some tips on his successful heist. We hear why villains are more "triangular" and good guys are "round." Plus, we find out why Susie is not on Team Janet with regard to the nipplegate at the Super Bowl. 573: Death of the Dad Joke, Stained Sweatpants, & Sad Denial

Today Sarah describes the steps she's taking to perform self-care. Susie asks Sarah if moving to Colorado is her version of cutting bangs. She explains what it's like for her when she sees people who need therapy, but she can't intervene. Sarah discusses how some people (mostly women) don't acknowledge (or even realize they have) sadness, and why she suspects men make matters worse. She describes the dark underbelly of the dad joke, and why sometimes good intentions aren't good enough. Susie points out how when you say you're "just joking" that the "just" is doing some heavy lifting. Sarah lists 5 ways you can tell if your dad is neglecting you. Plus, Susie interviews Karen Grassle who played "Ma Ingalls" on Little House on the Prairie about her new memoir, Bright Lights and Prairie Dust.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/570-573Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

572: Challenge Trauma, House of Horrors, & Scared Straight

Today we hear why Susie is fired up about the Challenge, and Sarah was re-traumatized by an episode recently. Susie gives a documentary round-up with commentary on the Beatles' Get Back, The Von Dutch Curse, and the Alanis HBO documentary. With the Alanis doc, we theorize why she disavowed the film and we speculate on what she perceived were the bad intentions of the filmmaker. Susie also explains her weird rage toward Demi Lovato who she now considers her enemy over a yogurt shop instagram post. We hear about the backlash on psychedelics and how some people experience a "trip that won't end." Sarah tells how she got "scared straight" after accidentally taking a class with a bunch of drug addicts. We hear why we have 7-day weeks and why it might have something to do with Marilu Henner. Plus, we discuss a "house of horrors" from which over a dozen kids have escaped. 571: Sobriety Sabotage, Childless Women, & Mullet Love

Today's episode is more like a therapy session for Sarah, who has found herself single again. She is grappling with her dating life, whether to use dating apps, and what it's like to be single in her mid-thirties. She is even discussing a new sense that she suspects she will not ever have children. She wonders where she could meet a partner in real life, and she considers what it is that she is truly looking for in a partner. It's such an important discussion for women who want to be partnered, but aren't finding the kind of person with whom they hope to be with and possibly start a family. Susie reveals what she has learned from her month without alcohol, while Sarah reveals she broke their five year agreement to never do another shot. Plus, we reminisce about her dalliance with Theo Von, and why she's hoping to date another comedian. 570: Penis Rot, Dreams in Crisis, & Blobs of Color

Today's theme is AWHs (accidents waiting to happen) and, well, because there were a lot of accidents that actually happened this week. Susie's brakes in her car stopped working, so she's just glad to be here... until we hear about a man whose penis and testes were bitten by a cobra. It didn't go well. We learn how trauma affects your dreams, and why scholars are starting to take dreams more seriously. We find out why you really don't know how you actually look and your personality determines whether you think you're hot or not. We find out about a trend in book covers and why it might not benefit women and people of color. We discuss the blandification of restaurants. Plus Susie reveals why the story of Lynyrd Skynyrd is even crazier than she thought. 569: Sex Toy Safety, Jew Face, & Serial Killer Origin Story

Today we find out why Sarah is especially into the autumnal season this year (and Susie is, of course, wearing a turtleneck). We eat our SVU Did It cakes, and regret nothing. We find out why sex toy manufacturers are finally getting justice. Plus, a law was just passed requiring toys to meet safety standards and we cannot believe this wasn't true before. Sarah tells a story of how she was, I kid you not, electrocuted by a makeshift sex toy. We debate whether non-Jews should play Jewish characters. We find out a theory on why a person becomes a serial killer. We find out why Sarah has rearranged her fridge to deal with her ADHD. And we relive the time she made an ass of herself with Bobby Brown.Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/567-569Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

568: Alabama Snake, TikTok Miracle, & Holiday Weight

Today we hear about people who handle snakes as an expression of their faith and one preacher who used the snakes as a weapon against his wife. We find out why women's pockets are so damn small (when we even have them). We discuss the woman who was rescued from a kidnapper thanks to TikTok. Susie plays the world's oldest song, and we get totally trippy about music, math, and beauty. Susie's pissed about Daylight Savings Time. We learn why the Royals must weigh in before Christmas dinner (spoiler alert: a man decided this was a good idea). Sarah rants about monarchies and Susie reveals the elaborate 11-day plan for when the Queen dies. Listen to more podcasts like this: https://wavepodcastnetwork.comRead this week's Newsletter: https://mailchi.mp/thebraincandypodcast/567-569Join our Candy Club, shop our merch, sign-up for our free newsletter, & more by visiting The Brain Candy Podcast website: https://www.thebraincandypodcast.comConnect with us on social media:BCP Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/braincandypodcastSusie's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/susiemeisterSarah's Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/imsarahriceBCP Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/braincandypodSusie's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/susie_meisterSarah's Twitter: https://www.twitter.com/ImSarahRiceSee Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

567: Saying Yes to Drugs & Toilet Paper Nightmare

Today we get the scoop on Sarah's dangerous liaison in Mexico and why mariachi music might not be as hellish as she thought. Sarah met her twin, and Susie thinks they should have a sitcom. We hear about Sarah's decision to try LSD, and what her trip was like (she had a trip on her trip!). Sarah discusses a new zero waste trend that is not ok at all, and why people sometimes have good intentions, but end up using fabric to clean their buttholes. Sarah is mad at a small business, which is a nice change of pace from how she is usually mad at big companies. We hear why the SpaceX toilets are leaking. Plus, Susie talks with author, Virginia Sole-Smith about her book, The Eating Instinct, about how diet culture is toxic.
