How to Dominate Your Next Endurance Challenge with Robbie Balenger

Sometimes, it takes more than an organized ultra race to push our limits. And that means finding ways to set our own challenges to really see what we’re made of. For today’s guest, that means running across America, completing the Colorado Crush (running the Leadville Marathon, Leadville 50 miler, Leadville 100, running the entire Colorado Trail, and climbing every 14er in Colorado in a span of ONLY a few months), and running farther than how far a Tesla can go on full-charge. Robbie Ballenger is the man who has completed all of those challenges. Robbie Balenger is an ultra-endurance athlete who has completed multiple feats of physical and mental accomplishment during his athletic career, and is a world record holder. He is well-known for completing these challenges all on a plant-based diet, and through an innovative sleep technology called NuCalm. And on top of that, he has a mindset and drive like no other, always trying to find the edge of his limits, and then looking to see how he can break through them. Robbie has also been featured on the Rich Roll Podcast, and The Bare Performance Podcast. In this episode, Robbie talks about the real secrets to his incredible endurance accomplishment, tips that anyone can use to complete their own endurance challenges, and why a plant-based diet and NuCalm has been so crucial to his success. How to Overcome Life’s Challenges Through Ultra Running, with Brandon Stutzman

Is it possible to transform your entire life, even when it seems so incredibly dark? Our guest today is the perfect example of showing that it most certainly is. Brandon Stutzman dealt with homelessness, depression, and a rough childhood during the early years of his life. But through taking control of his mind, as well as finding passion through ultra running, he was able to turn it all around. And now, he’s gearing up to attempt his first ever 100-mile race, along with completing 1,000 pull-ups throughout the attempt, all self-supported. And he’s raising money for the homeless shelter he was a part of when he was growing up. Truly incredible! Brandon is also a content creator and videographer who has shot content for tons of ultrarunners around the country. He even directed and produced his own documentary called “For the Kids” which is available on YouTube, and in the link below. In this episode, Brandon discusses why ultrarunning has played such a huge role in his transformation, tools that he uses to level up his own mindset, and how to bounce back from the dark points in your life (whether it be during an ultra or in your day-to-day life). How to Train Smarter for Your Next Ultra with Jacob Puzey

Whether you’re training for you first or 50th Ultra, getting the right tips on how to train smarter and more efficiently from a coach is always helpful. And in this episode, I was joined by one of the best running coaches out there, Jacob Puzey! Jacob is the Director of Peak Run Performance, which is a coaching company designed to help runners achieve their big goals (without having to do any of the guess work themselves). Jacob is also an accomplished runner himself, finishing in the top 10 of the 2021 Javelina Jundred and winning multiple races in the past. Plus, he’s coached tons of runners to the podium as formerly a collegiate-level Cross Country coach, and now as a running coach to the public. In this episode, Jacob and I discuss simple tips to make your training way more effective, what you should be aware of if you’re thinking of working with a coach, and how to keep yourself in the game during brutal training blocks. Also, Jacob’s brother, Tommy Rivs, has been unfortunately and heartbreakingly battling cancer since 2020. If you know Tommy, Jacob, and their family you know that this couldn’t have happened to a more undeserving guy and family. So, we discuss ways you can support #TeamRivs in the beginning of the podcast as well. Special thanks and much love to Jacob for this special episode! The Gift of Autism Helping Zach Reach His 100 Mile Dreams, With Zach Bates

Zach Bates is a 19-year old ultramarathon runner, who was diagnosed with autism at the age of 4. But despite that, he hasn’t let that diagnosis define who he is or mask the incredible spirit that he shows every single day. Zach recently achieved his goal of completing a 100-mile race before he hit 20 years old at the Cold Water 100 in Goodyear, Arizona. And what is incredible about that was that he had set that goal when his longest race was only a 5k. Along his journey leading up to the race, he’s completed multiple ultramarathons and trail races, and spent hours on the trail training for his moment. In this episode, Zach shares his journey into ultramarathons, what his training was like, the recap of his 100 mile race, and a look inside his amazing mindset that helps him pursue his dreams and break through difficulties. This is a truly inspiring episode! We’re also joined by Nickademus De La Rosa, Zach’s Running Coach and a Barkley Marathon winner, who shares his perspective of what it was like to coach Zach during the entire journey.
