Connecting Through Commonality

Have you ever heard someone say that one of their relationships ended because “they just didn’t have anything in common with the other person”? Of course you have. If we put so much emphasis on commonality in our romantic relationships why don’t we think about how we could use it to transform our business relationships as well. Listen to this week's episode where I discuss commonality buckets and how you can use the power of commonality, and shared experiences to better connect with the people in your network. Drink of the week: Apple Cider Bourbon Cocktailhttps://www.acouplecooks.com/apple-cider-cocktail/If you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast. Persuasive Communication with Dr. Barbara Tannenbaum

Few things strike fear into the hearts of women and men as much as the thought of public speaking. There was actually a study that found that public speaking is the #1 fear of the average person, want to know what #2 is death! Jerry Seinfeld talked about this in one of his stand up routines, joking that the average person, if you had to be at a funeral, would rather be in the casket than giving the eulogy! It doesn’t have to be this way. Listen in as I talk with Dr. Tannenbaum, a highly acclaimed award winning professor, who teaches courses in public speaking and persuasive communication in the Department of Theatre, Arts and Performance Studies at Brown University.Dr. Tannenbaum and I discuss everything from how to stop using filler words - think ums, ahs, and like, how to connect with your audience, the importance of non verbal communication, as well as how to be confident in front of an audience. You don’t want to miss this one. Drink of the week: Jack’s Abbey Copper Legend OctoberfestIf you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast. How the People You Meet Will Change Your Life

As children we are taught to Never Talk To Strangers. Perhaps this is why as adults we have such a difficult time meeting new people. There is a book of poems by Annalyse Gelman titled “Everyone I Love is a Stranger to Someone.” And I love this sentence, for so many reasons - not the least of which is that most of the people who are important in our lives, whom we love, were once a stranger to us as well. The people you meet will change your life. But in order to meet those people you need to learn how to talk to strangers. Listen in for my 5 tips for how to talk to strangers and meet the people who will change your life. Drink of the week: Beautiful Stranger https://bigorecipes.com/recipe-items/beautiful-strangerIf you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast. UnFollow Your Passion with Terri Trespicio

Every kid is asked the same question, what do you want to be when you grow up? Like how are we supposed to have any freaking clue what we want to be when we are a kid. Not to mention that half the jobs out there didn’t even exist when I was a kid. For this reason and many others I think this is a terrible question - it plants the seed that in order to be passionate about something you have to know from a very young age that you want to do that thing. What if instead of trying to find our passion, we decided to unfollow it? Instead of searching it out and trying to conjure it into existence we simply let it find us, through the process of living and learning? Tune in this week as I talk with sought after speaker and brand advisor, Terri Trespicio whose Ted Talk Stop Searching For Your Passion has been viewed more than 7 million times about her upcoming book Unfollow Your Passion. Drink of the week: The Calling ChardonnayIf you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast. How can we create boundaries without feeling guilty? Listen in as I talk with burnout and boundary expert Caitlin Donovan as she walks us through the transformative power of boundaries and how to create them. Drink of the week: Captain and CiderThere is no recipe. The Future of Conferences and Events with Hillary Needle

I recently attended my first in person conference since the pandemic began. It was a hybrid conference, with 500 people allowed to attend the in person conference and hundreds joining virtually. It took place in Las Vegas.Having just experienced my first in person large gathering, which was wonderful and not so wonderful all at the same time. I wanted to have a discussion on how we can get back to big in person events and conferences and feel comfortable doing so? I also want to have a discussion on the future of large events. Will there always be a virtual option to every event or conference going forward? What will they physically look like? How do we make people feel safe? To answer these questions and so many more I am joined by Hilary Needle, Hillary is President of Hillary Needle Events and has more than 20 years of senior management expertise in event planning. In 2013 and 2015, Hillary was named one of the “Top 50 Most Influential Women in Business” by Long Island Business News and in 2019, she was inducted into the Hall of Fame.  She has been featured in numerous articles, and is a frequent radio and television guest. Drink of the day: Olson Kundig Mezcal Negronihttps://www.liquor.com/recipes/mezcal-negroni/If you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast. The Power of Strategic Introductions and How to Ask for Them

There is a concept in social network theory called Triadic Closure, which states that if two people who don’t know each other share a common connection, they will bond more quickly when they meet via this connection. It’s similar to the “friends of my friends are my friends” idea. Strategic introductions work well if you know who you want to be introduced to, why you want to be introduced and also who in your network has a strong enough connection to that person to make the introduction. Listen in as I lay out my 5 tips on how you can ask the people in your network to make strategic introductions for you, to strengthen and grow your network.Drink of the day: High Noon Spiked Seltzer: Pineapplehttps://www.highnoonspirits.com/If you liked what you heard today, please leave a review and subscribe to the podcast.
