166: The Courage to be REAL and AUTHENTIC with Steve Weatherford

Today's guest and former NFL star, Steve Weatherford, and I have been trying to connect and get him on the show for a year now. But we both came to the same consensus that this specific timing was meant to be. With so many revelations happening recently for this former American football player, Steve feels called now more than ever to uncover all of them and share them with others in podcasts like this (and on his own new podcast show – link in Resources). Today, Steve and I do a deep-dive into all aspects of his life, past and present, focusing not just on what he's done or doing now, but most importantly about what he's passionate about and what lights him up. Steve gives permission to all men out there who feel they need to portray an "alpha" man to share their vulnerability instead. We don't have to focus on our inadequacies – we get to focus on the wins, too. This is such a life-changing (possibly life-saving for some) episode for so many reasons and I'm so excited for you all to listen in. Be sure to let both Steve and I know what your takeaways are! -- Question Highlights: What do you really want to be known for? Do you feel like there's a value in sharing your journey as you're becoming this entrepreneur and kind of leaving it the past you're know for behind? Why now? What made you go down the toughest path I'm guessing you've gone down yet? How did you make the shift? Can you participate in philanthropy now from a place of the right intention – and for you? Is it better to give in the dark, give out loud or something in between? In This Episode We Talk about: Being authentic Where Steve's at in the middle of his transcending journey The importance of sharing vulnerability Performance anxiety in the NFL Why men don't have to suffer alone Why you don't have to cover up anxiety or pain achievements Why the "doing" isn't enough The two different ways to take action Why Steve wants to inspire people Steve's new podcast, The Steve Weatherford Show Celebrating the moments when you show up as yourself The power of imperfection What Steve did to capture his father's attention Why Steve doesn't look for praise anymore Steve's take on giving And so much more… -- Steve's Thoughts… "I don't want my life to be about things that I've done, I want it to be about the things that I am." "I am more than what I do." "If how you feel about you is predicated of others' opinions of you, you're not powerful – you're powerless." "I'm leading a crusade for alpha men to show vulnerability in order to gain strength and mastery of themselves." "My greatest achievement is being myself." "If I serve people, I need to know what the pulse of my community is." "You can never fail at being yourself." -- Steve Weatherford is a former American football punter for the New York Giants. He also played for the New Orleans Saints, Kansas City Chiefs, Jacksonville Jaguars and the New York Jets. Steve is a dedicated husband, doting father, an all-around family man, avid health and fitness role model, a nationally recognized philanthropist, and a Super Bowl winning Punter. Most recently, Steve released his own podcast, The Steve Weatherford Show. He has been recognized nationwide for his charitable endeavors including being the recipient of the coveted Wellington Mara Award for outstanding community service. He is a spokesperson for several other non-profits through his various initiatives, he has served as a role model to over 100,000 youths with his primary outreach focused on children, health and fitness, and family. -- The Steve Weatherford Show: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/steve-weatherford-show-secrets-to-high-performance/id1436670002?mt=2 IG: @weatherford5 FB: https://www.facebook.com/Official.Steve.Weatherford For more stories and tips on becoming unapologetically wealthy, follow me @Chriswharder on Instagram and check out fortheloveofmoney.com.

165: How Do Couples Make Financial Decisions Together

One of the most popular questions I get is how Lori and I as a couple make financial decisions. It's not surprising when you see everywhere just how stressful finances can be. So today, I'm sharing a few game-changing ground rules that will help you feel better about your and your partner's relationship with money. Set your ego aside. Regardless if you're the sole bread winner or you both work, no ONE person is at fault. You should both have a strong interest in your financial goals. (If you don't, this is your wake-up call to start!) This is a team effort and no one is meant carry the burden alone. Ensure there are no secrets, share your fears and keep those old financial stories out of it. "Living in the now is the only way to have certainty of your financial future." Learn your partner's communication style. This is imperative. Keep in mind that your partner will not hear you if your message is being given in a way they cannot receive. Trust me. When Lori and I first began working together, this took us 6 months to figure out. Have a budget and set goals. Make it fun and dream together. If you've never had a budget, I recommend checking out Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. "Your budget is your financial roadmap to your goals." Schedule regular celebrations. Yes! Make "money dates" something to look forward to. Once a month shoot to go out and celebrate in your favorite way and take this time to acknowledge what went well, what mistakes were made and what you need to work on. Truly aim to air out any issues at this time unless it is more urgent. "What doesn't get celebrated won't be repeated." In closing and in order for these steps to work, you must practice integrity when it comes to achieving your goals. Make sure you're adhering to the above and your feelings around finances – especially as a couple – will lead to more harmony and abundance in all aspects of life. In This Episode We Talk about: Four tips that will change the financial game for you as a couple Why no one is at fault Learning different communication styles Why you need to schedule in regular celebrations Resources: Now accepting applications for the 2019 For the Love of Money Mastermind. 164: Riding The Success Roller Coaster with Fitness Celebrity Natalie Jill

Today's conversation with the one and only Natalie Jill of Natalie Jill Fitness is long overdue, but I feel like we're connecting at the perfect time all the same. Having been friends with Natalie Jill for quite some time now, her initial rock-bottom comeback story is amazing, but after experiencing another setback recently, her story is both inspiring and eye-opening. Natalie Jill's journey began 15 years ago when she found herself at rock bottom – she was a divorced single mom who lost her house, her retirement and gained a lot of weight. She created a vision board to inspire her to make changes, but took it one step further by posting the process on social media for accountability. Not only did she find accountability, she also found a following that quickly led to a $3 million-plus business. Seemingly having it all figured out, it was a shock when Natalie Jill realized that her "following" wasn't hers and she saw a dramatic downslide to her business. With changing algorithms and a saturated market, she desperately attempted to turn it around by throwing money out to find a solution. Hundreds of thousands of dollars later, Natalie Jill went back to her initial strategy and that was to make authentic connections again – and it's working like a charm. Natalie Jill gets super honest and vulnerable throughout this episode and reveals what it truly means to be an entrepreneur – the highs and the rock-bottom lows. No stranger to those lows, it definitely made me reflect on how I can better connect with people both in my programs and following. What strides could you make if you connected on a more authentic level? -- Question Highlights: What's your favorite quote? What is your superpower? Who is someone who's changed your life? What is one of your biggest accomplishments? [When you hit rock bottom], were you more scared that people were going to find out just how bad everything was or were you more scared that your life was changing and transitioning with so many changes so quickly? What was the first steps/thoughts in reconciling where you were at and stepping forward? How did you start to build momentum? How much money have you invested in "coaches" that weren't the right fit? What would you have done differently? You've gone from broke to a $3 million business and back to broke – how has your happiness varied with different levels of income/net worth – or has it? How did your friends change or show up as you went through declines? What's the most important lesson you're drawing from your 15-year roller coaster journey? What are you building now? Where do you think the next safest place to build a following should be? In This Episode We Talk about: Natalie's rock bottom moments The first steps Natalie Jill took to move forward after her rock bottom How accountability and sharing her journey led to her initial success Making authentic connections What went wrong with Natalie Jill's success Social media and how it impacted her success Getting back to being authentic Failures and self-doubt Natalie Jill's new podcast (Leveling Up: Creating Everything from Nothing) Why Natalie Jill is shifting her focus to smaller group interactions Natalie Jill's new book, "Aging in Reverse" (releases May 2019) And so much more… -- Natalie Jill's Thoughts… "Excuses or solutions – you decide." "Those little steps, over time, add up to big things." "The only difference between where we are now and where we want to be is our thoughts and actions." "It was never about my own specific vision, it was specifically about what are they asking for next and let me create that for them." "It took crashing and burning for me to finally realize what I learned 10 years ago at my rock bottom. It's about being vulnerable, being real and connecting with people and it's not about what somebody else is going to do for me." "My happiness does not relate to money – it relates to connection." "It's not a following thing, it's a connecting thing." -- Once upon a time, Natalie Jill lost her house, her retirement, her marriage ended and she gained a lot of weight. She was at ROCK BOTTOM. At the time she was in her late thirties and felt doomed. She had all kinds of nagging "False Aggravating Truths" that she believed about herself. She felt too old, too broke, too overweight and too depressed to do anything. She had so many Self Imposed Stops that were in her way. Something had to shift. Her beliefs weren't working for her. She started by changing her STATE and decided she was NOT those self-imposed stops and created a vision for MORE. In a nutshell, she turned it all around, got her life back and became an inspiration to others. Now, she kills FAT for a living. The Fat on bodies AND that F.A.T. getting in the way. -- NatalieJillFitness.com Leveling Up: Creating Everything from Nothing Podcast IG: NatalieJillFit FB: https://www.facebook.com/nataliejillfit/ For more stories and tips on becoming unapologetically wealthy, follow me @Chriswharder on Instagram and check out fortheloveofmoney.com.

163: What Happens If You Lose It All? A Question from Instagram

There's a misconception out there that only the people who are down and out struggle with their money mindset. I couldn't disagree with that more – very successful people also feel the same fear. In fact, the other day, I received an DM from a young, super successful woman on Instagram. (By the way, I love getting messages and questions from you so feel free to send them my way @chriswharder). This 24-year-old woman shared how while she was presently super successful, she was terrified of being successful and having it ripped away. See, when she was younger (age 14) her father lost his job and to make ends meet she ended up having to work 5-7 jobs to keep the household afloat. Can anyone relate to this? I know I can. Following are the five tips I shared with this woman to help her work through and manage her fear: It's better to have something to begin with then to never get it in the first place. It's good to have a healthy fear so you keep working hard. Don't see it as fear, see it as urgency. Be present. Live in the now. You're doing great – enjoy it! Stop worrying about something in the future that may or may not happen (hint: it probably won't). Your abundance that you have right now is because you had the talent to create it. You can't lose that ability to create more of it! "It's not your current assets that make you rich. It's your ability to create wealth at any time." Hire a coach to help you keep the right perspective and keep growing. Whether it's one on one or a mastermind, up-level your tribe! Thanks so much again to this woman (who knows who she is) for sharing your story. You've helped so many others and helped me turn it into an incredible episode in the process. I can't wait to hear who else has a similar story – be sure to share with me on IG! 162: From 5 Million Dollars to Broke - A Money Mindset Lesson with Ashley Stahl

I don't even know where to begin telling you about today's guest, Ashley Stahl. I met Ashley in my mastermind group, but it was recently that I really sat down to hear her story, and wow! Prepare yourself to be in awe of her mind-blowing journey so far. While now a career coach and writer with successful business, her career journey began early on at age 23 in Washington D.C. at the Pentagon managing a high-level counter-terrorism program. She excelled in the position and knew that it looked good on paper, but she knew it wasn't the right fit when she wound up with a bag over her head in a routine drill. Ashley knew she could continue on, but she also knew that she wasn't staying true to who she was. Ashley left the Pentagon and high-tailed it back to L.A. where she grew up, found another job in intelligence in the private sector, but also started a side hustle as a career coach. That side hustle is now a thriving business, and as you'll hear in this episode, it was full of highs and lows (millionaire to broke to millionaire). Be sure to listen in as she walks us through her challenging moments and how she's still working on releasing limiting beliefs around money, success and relationships. Ashely offers a broad spectrum of empowering advice and I hope it inspires you to do more as well. -- Question Highlights: What's one thing you're challenged by? What's one of your superpowers? Who is someone who's changed your life? What is one of your favorite accomplishments? Can you tell us about your counter-terrorist job with the Pentagon at only 23 years old? How did you get your job at the Pentagon? How did you make and lose $5 million? When did your success go the wrong direction? What's the verdict? Have your key people stayed in your life despite your success ups and downs? How has your view of money changed? Do you have a favorite moment of giving? In This Episode We Talk about: Ashley's education path How Ashley wound up working in Washington D.C. at the Pentagon The magic of human connection Ashley's "You Turn" moment Ashley's career path from the Pentagon to career coach Navigating through a loss and struggle money mindset Automated webinars Why Ashley had the belief that success and fear always occurred together How attorneys and Ashley sabotaged her success False urgency The work Ashley is doing to release the belief that people are going to screw her over The role generosity has played in Ashley's life And so much more… -- Ashley's Thoughts… "Never rob someone of their rock bottom." "If you're a wobbly coach, you're going to get a wobbly customer." "I became an entrepreneur because I'm creative, not to fix things." "Quitting can be for winners. There is a glory in quitting." "The trauma wasn't in losing my money – that was a gift." "It's priceless to be able to go out in the world and be yourself." "Worthiness is our birthright." -- Ashley Stahl is an angel investor, writer and career coach who empowers job seekers around the world in finding their purpose and landing more job offers. At age 23, Stahl managed a high-level program for the Pentagon, for which she was named a "Top 99 Foreign Policy Leader Under 33" by Diplomatic Courier Magazine and Young Professionals in Foreign Policy. Next, she was named Power 30 Under 30 leader by Apex Society for her work running the Global Threat Intelligence Team at a global political risk consultancy. While preparing senior officials for the front lines of the war on terror, Ashley launched her leadership firm, Ashley International Inc., which offers private coaching and unparalleled online programs to empower Millennials to find their purpose, land more job offers and increase their income. 161: How To Bust Through Your "Ceiling", FAST!

Some may find it hard to believe but everyone, and I mean everyone, has a ceiling. Yes, even Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey or any other wildly successful person has one. And here's why: "Everybody has a ceiling or they'd be higher than they are now." For example, let's say a person is making $100K a year. Why aren't they making $200K? Because they have a ceiling. You can change the numbers, but you'll still get the same answer. But here's the good news. Every ceiling can be lifted. If you need a visual, think about those cheap drop-down tile ceilings that people used to put in their finished basements. When installed, yes, there's a ceiling there, but it can easily be busted through to expose more space above it. And you can do the same with your "ceiling." Here are five steps to help you do just that. Acknowledge that you have a ceiling and you've hit it. Now look for patterns and see how you can change it. Choose to bust through the ceiling. This is your moment to burn the boats! "Make sure it's a real choice to bust through your ceiling – not just a desire." Choose new beliefs. Choose to believe what is possible. Look for evidence and beliefs to support why you're worthy. Choose new rituals. Reinforce your beliefs with new rituals. Read more, take new courses, set better boundaries, meditate more (or start), schedule forced creative time – the options are endless. Just know that your new beliefs won't stay if you don't reinforce them. Uplevel your tribe. Your current tribe may be holding you back. This can be difficult, but know that you're never leaving anyone behind because they always have the choice to come along. Choose people who have been where you want to go. "Most people are in a habit of choosing people that make them feel good, not people that make them do better." All of the above steps build on top of one another and you can't support one without the other. Because we know how important it is to have guidance when it comes to navigating this, we've created our life course, Aligned, that helps you choose new beliefs and rituals – and also connects you to a new tribe. Enrollment just opened this week and we're so excited to help others on this journey! Join now and receive a special bonus! 159: Who Should Have The POWER? The Good Guys or The Bad Guys

I've been wanting to talk about today's topic for a while and am excited to dive in to whether or not the statement "Money is power," is true. And if it is true, who should have the power? The good guys or the bad guys? First off, I do believe that money is power because we all get an opportunity to "vote" with our dollars. The more money you have, the more say you have. People with more money are often looked up to more as a guiding example and they tend to have more of a responsibility with that power as well. They're leaders and they don't hoard their power, they share it. The only catch? We want power in the hands of good people who are going to do the above. This same principle is shared in the book, "The Traveler's Gift" by Andy Andrews. Here are a couple of his quotes that sum it up nicely and also mirror a good portion of the For the Love of Money philosophy, too "To do great deeds, great power is essential." – Andy Andrews "If money is power, do not run from power. Gather it as you would the finest fruit. Power in the hands of a good person is like a drink of water on a hot summer day. It refreshes everyone with whom it comes in contact with." – Andy Andrews Andy goes on to describe that there are three different levels of power: Those who have enough money and power to get by Those who make enough to make things more comfortable for their families and sometimes a few others Those who make enough to change the world. They ignore what's popular and do what's right to lead hundreds and thousands of others toward the right thing. We all have the capacity to do more, but so many of us fear it. I encourage you to stop being afraid to step out and grab that power! And similar to what my podcast says every week: "Grab your power and use it for good!" 157: Why Isn't This "Good Enough?"

Has anyone ever asked you, "Why isn't this good enough? You've already done x-y-z, so what do you want to do more?" Most often the people who ask have good intentions, but they don't understand that you're called to do bigger things. And this can be painful for others or make them feel threatened for a couple different reasons. First, they may just feel threatened and afraid that you'll move on and leave them behind. And secondly, it forces them to look in the mirror and where they're at and they're not liking what reflects back. But what they don't realize is that almost none of us have done what we're called to do – at least all aspects of it. We're not built to remain the same (just look at nature!) and that means that we have to keep striving for more. "Life isn't meant to be good enough; it's meant to keep growing." So if anyone questions you, don't feel offended. They're just not tapped into their higher calling yet, and you're entitled to pursue anything you want. This isn't good enough because you're called to change more lives by following that calling and living a better life each and every day. In This Episode We Talk about: Why you should be unapologetic for what you have Why what you have may not be good enough Why your quest for more threatens others Resources: VIP Days with Chris.
