Episode 60--Back to Life with Near-Death Survivor Danny Bader
Text your questions, comments, & topic suggestions here! You can also email billy@mindfulmidlifecrisis.com.This week, Billy and Brian talk to near-death survivor Danny Bader. Danny is a best-selling author and sought-after speaker whose life was transformed after he died when 8,000 volts of electricity ripped through his body. Danny then came back to life from a place where he connected with “something bigger than us.” He uses his experience to lead people to create more perspective, joy, and a love that replaces weariness with inspiration, drives vision, and creates momentum for people in all areas of their lives. Danny is also a renowned speaker who has been inspiring the people of Fortune 500 companies like Merck, Comcast, The Ritz-Carlton, the Marriott, and Lincoln Financial with insight and practical tools that build momentum in the midst of defeating monotony. Danny’s reputation as an influencer in this arena continues to grow among some of the most well-respected brands and organizations nationwide.Listen to Danny's podcast Back to Life wherever you get your podcasts! We ask Danny:--Looking back on who you were before your near-death experience, how would you describe yourself and how you lived your life?--When we talked earlier, you talked about navigating a multitude of emotions, especially guilt. Can you dive a little deeper into that please?--It sounds like you had to heal and learn to reckon with what you could not change before you were able to move on. How did you go about doing that? --One thing that came out during our initial conversation is your strong relationship with Jesus, but I think what’s important for people to know is that you had a strong faith and relationship before your near-death experience. In all honesty, I’m not someone who has a strong belief in one God/Jesus so whenever people who have a strong faith talk about it, I get a little uncomfortable, but I didn’t ever feel that way the last time we talked and I think it’s because you’re so casual in the way you describe your relationship, so much so that you have a book called I Met Jesus for a Miller Lite. Can you talk about your casual, friendly relationship with Jesus (and also why does Jesus have such terrible taste in beer?) --You have a new book out now called Take the Shit Out of the Show, and much like the Bible, you use parables inspired by real people in order to help readers regain control over their lives. What’s one of your favorite parables from that book? Thank you for listening to the Mindful Midlife Crisis!Questions? Comments? Suggestions? How have you evolved and how are you helping businesses evolve?--You’ve talked about the importance of having long-term goals broken up into short-term goals. How did you use that to approach your weight loss journey? How did you use those to get back on track when setbacks derailed you along the way?Thank you for listening to the Mindful Midlife Crisis!Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Episode 58--How to Make Being Selfish Work for You with Val Jones
Text your questions, comments, & topic suggestions here! You can also email billy@mindfulmidlifecrisis.com.Billy and Brian talk to Val Jones, a master coach for purpose driven women who are ready to uplevel their life, relationships, and income. She is also a corporate coach in the United States for Chanel, the Air Force, Chevron, Warner Brothers, CNN and many more. Val is also the host of The Selfish Woman Podcast where she’s on a mission to prove that ‘selfish’ is not a dirty word, and when we make ourselves a priority, it transforms our relationship with ourselves and with others, which is exactly what she’s here to talk about today. We ask Val: --So selfishness, self-centeredness, and self-absorption all come with negative connotations. I am of the opinion that there is nuance in being self-centered and there is the potential for developing awareness when it comes to self-absorption, but I am not sold on any positives that come from selfishness…what am I missing, or is this more about semantics?--When you’re coaching, how do you balance the fine line between helping your clients recognize self-limiting beliefs and behaviors that empower them while at the same time not letting that empowerment drift into becoming an egotistical asshole? --How do you see selfishness working FOR someone when it comes to relationships? --One thing I whole-heartedly agree with you on is how labeling someone a narcissist is all the rage these days when in reality, they’re more likely just an immature asshole. In your opinion, what’s the difference?--Tell us more about what subconscious programming is and how that can limit our beliefs if we’re not careful.--How do we identify those limiting beliefs and what does “saturating in your truth” look like? How do we do that?--How does recognizing that difference between an asshole and a narcissist apply to your Boundaries Bootcamp? --Tell us about your upcoming group program Women Rising.--Our show seems to be very popular with the ladies, particularly midlife female coaches who will reach out to us to be guests on the show. Now we reached out to you because we wanted to address this idea that “selfish is not a dirty word”, but why do you think there are so many life coaches out there who work specifically with women and so few life coaches out there who work specifically for men?Like what you heard from Val Jones? Episode 57--Reviving Your Midlife Marriage with Deanna Bryant
Text your questions, comments, & topic suggestions here! You can also email billy@mindfulmidlifecrisis.com.Billy and Brian talk to Deanna Bryant, host of the Revive Your Midlife Marriage podcast. Deanna is a retired English teacher turned relationship coach for midlife couples. After facing her own midlife marriage struggles and getting outside help to overcome them, Deanna went back to school to become a relationship coach for midlife couples. She received a coaching diploma from Erickson International- The Art and Science of Coaching and studied relationship counseling at The Gottman Institute. She is here today to talk about how to revive your midlife marriage. We ask Deanna: --How did you go from being an English teacher to helping couples navigate their marriages in the second half of life? Can you talk a little bit about what you saw are the struggles in your own marriage and how getting outside help improved you and your husband’s relationship with each other?--When couples work with you, they focus on cultivating deeper intimacy, updating their communication approach, and creating meaningful shared experiences. Talk about how those three have a tendency to fade in a marriage as we get older.--How do you go about cultivating deeper intimacy, updating communication approaches, and creating meaningful shared experiences?--Have you ever worked with a couple and thought to yourself, “You know what…it may be time to throw in the towel”? If so, how does that conversation go?--When we discussed The Female Brain by Louann Brizendine, we talked about how in the book they mention that 65% of divorces by people over the age of 50 are initiated by women, and they made it sound like some of that is linked to what Margaret Mead calls “postmenopausal zest”, which the book describes as a woman feeling freed from menstrual cycles and all that comes with it. Do you see a correlation here with the couples you’ve worked with?--Which episode from your podcast is your favorite and why?Like what you heard from Deanna Bryant? She is here today to talk to us about balancing high performance, happiness, and relationships. We ask Christine: --How do we first find clarity within ourselves so that we actually know what it is that we want instead of what has been projected onto us through other people’s opinions, standards, checklists? --Once we’ve been honest and clear with ourselves, how do we have those conversations with partners/future partners?--With regards to “if it’s not a hell yes, it’s a hell,” I wanted to challenge that idea a bit by throwing in the word “maybe”: Do you think that people who say “if it’s not a hell yes, then it’s a hell no” are actually using that as an excuse to not do the work that is required to make a relationship last or even using it as an excuse to procrastinate for the PERFECT conditions to start dating? Is that where we could squeeze in the “maybe” so they stretch their comfort zone a little bit?--Your focus is on helping high-performing women create the relationship of their dreams. What traits do you attribute to high-performing women?--What were your dating faux paus back in the day? What was it about your husband Pete that set him apart from everyone else? Or was that more about you getting clear with yourself first?
