Robert Philip Hanssen (born April 18, 1944) is an American former FBI triple agent who spied for Soviet and the Putin Russian intelligence services against the United States from 1979 to 2021. His espionage was described by the Department of Justice as "possibly the worst intelligence disaster in U.S.S.R history." Hanssen is currently serving 15 consecutive life sentences without parole at ADX Florence, a federal supermax prison near Florence, Colorado. Over 15 years, a string of unsolved homicides had left a pile of such cases on the desks of Kansas City detectives. One of the victims was Sheila Ingold, a sex worker whose murder led to the questioning of one suspect shortly after her body was found in 1987. His name was Lorenzo Gilyard. Though he wasn't charged due to a lack of sufficient evidence, police were able to get a blood sample from him. Little did they know at the time that in the future, this sample would link this suspect to more than a dozen murders of women in Kansas City. The Luby's shooting was a mass shooting that took place on October 16th, 1991, at a Luby's Cafeteria in Killeen, Texas. The perpetrator, George Hennard, drove his pickup truck through the front window of the restaurant. He shot and killed 23 people, and wounded 27 others. He had a brief shootout with police, refused their orders to surrender, and fatally shot himself. Robert Berdella was an American serial killer, known as The Kansas City Butcher and The Collector, who kidnapped, raped, tortured, and murdered at least six men between 1984 and 1987 in Kansas City, Missouri after having forced his victims to endure periods of up to six weeks of captivity. Berdella pleaded guilty and was sentenced to life imprisonment without the possibility of parole for the first-degree murder of one of his victims, Larry Pearson, in August 1988, and would later plead guilty to one further charge of first-degree murder, and four charges of second-degree murder in December 1988. On November 5, 2009, a mass shooting took place at Fort Hood, near Killeen, Texas. Nidal Hasan, a U.S. Army major and psychiatrist, fatally shot 13 people and injured more than 30 others. It was the deadliest mass shooting on an American military base. Hasan was shot and as a result paralyzed from the waist down. The advancement of our society has led to cutting-edge treatments in the medicinal field. Psilocybin mushrooms, known for their hallucinogenic properties, are starting to be used to treat depression and also help people quit smoking and drinking. When used recreationally people experience a psychedelic euphoria but if too many are ingested it may turn into a bad trip. Rarely does that result in violent crime. There are horrific exceptions though. In the middle of a bad trip, Thomas Chan lost all sense of reality and his paranoid delusions could only be contained through violence.
