In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris is joined by Jeff Risdon and Tony Ortiz to break down the upcoming Lions Game against the Carolina Panthers. It’s an important game for the Lions to stay relevant, and the Carolina Panthers are ripe to be beaten – what do the guys have to say about the Lions chances? Carolina Panthers Walking Wounded The Detroit Lions aren’t the only team in the NFL hurting, the Carolina Panthers have a number of injuries of their own. Teddy Bridgewater will likely miss, and the Carolina Panthers offensive line will be down two players. Both teams’ quarterbacks are injured and we aren’t sure if wither will play. Looking ahead to a short week, the Lions have a number of key decisions to make. Detroit Lions Podcast Analysis We’ll talk about the Vegas line and why the Carolina Panthers game is likely a game to stay away from, as well as where Chris would put his money if he had to. In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman discuss the latest Lions loss to the Minnesota Vikings. This matchup has been brutal to the Lions over the years, and in this meeting the Minnesota Vikings prevailed again. The Lions did everything they could to give the game to the Minnesota Vikings, including putting only 10 defenders on the field on a Dalvin Cook 70-yard TD run. It feels like the wheels are fully coming off of this experiment, and the future is not only already written, but written in stone. Minnesota Vikings Blues Beater We talk about the situation for the Lions, their coaching staff, the front office, and the players. We spend some time focusing on Matthew Stafford and try to read the tea leaves about his future. There are definitely questions that need to be answered in this space, and in typical Lions fashion, none of the answers are good one.  Worry not though, despite the many requests during the 24-hour podcast-a-thon for St. Jude, Chris would not take donations for drinks – he wanted to be sure he could make it. Both of their games against the Green Bay Packers were shoot outs with total scores of at least 50 points. That being said, they have lost to the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons on the way to their 2-5 record. There is also the great match-up of the Lions Everson Griffen vs. Riley Reiff of the Minnesota Vikings. No matter the outcome of the game, that should be a fun match-up to watch for Lions fans. We discuss the possibility of Matthew Stafford playing for the Lions after his trip to the Reserve/Covid list. It is possible, and there are some interesting logistics involved, but it’s still a possibility that Matthew Stafford plays. The good news is that if we have to play Chase Daniel instead of Matthew Stafford, he’s a 2-0 against the Minnesota Vikings, no reason this team shouldn’t be able to help him get to a 3-0 record. In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman take a look back at the Lions and Indianapolis Colts game. We talked about this game being a real test of the team, and frankly, the Lions failed against the Indianapolis Colts. It was a low energy, game in which the Indianapolis Colts overwhelmed the Lions in the trenches and set the tone for the entire game. While not pivotal to the game’s outcome, we got a nice dose of terrible officiating that we’ve become accustomed to over the years. Indianapolis Colts Beat The Lions Up! It all happened in the trenches. The offensive and defensive lines for the Indianapolis Colts just dominated the Lions this week. It was a clinic on how important an offensive and defensive line are in the NFL. Matthew Stafford was hit/sacked a number of times, and never looked very comfortable in the pocket. Couple that with a team that just couldn’t find energy and you get the shellacking that the Lions received today. We talked about this game being a statement game for the Lions, and the statement they made was unintelligible. Tell Everyone You Know! Detroit Lions Podcast Talks Everson Griffen Trade! Huge news broke as we were going live with today’s show. The Detroit Lions have traded a conditional sixth round pick to the Dallas Cowboys, and have picked up Everson Griffen in return. For a song and a tad over $3 million the Detroit Lions have significantly upgraded their pass rush with Everson Griffen, who is certain to make the players around him better. We’ll talk about how he helps the team and when we will finally see him. The best news? We’ve got him twice against a team that tossed him to the trash heap. That should be fun. Indianapolis Colts Get Shorter Time With the breaking Everson Griffen news, we don’t get to give the full treatment to the Indianapolis Colts game. We do discuss what to look for, and how the Lions defense should attack Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Phillip Rivers. A key match-up we discuss is the Lions defensive front against the Indianapolis Colts offensive line. That is going to be a battle all day, the Colts o-line is one of the best, and will likely signal which team is having the most success. A win against the Indianapolis Colts would do a lot for the Lions confidence and help atone for early season difficulties. In this live episode of The Detroit Lions Podcast, Chris and Sandman kick off celebration Sunday after a great Lions win over the Atlanta Falcons. The Atlanta Falcons were a good test for a Lions team who needs to string a few wins together to have any hope of making this season relevant. For Matt Patricia, the Atlanta Falcons could very well have had his career in their hands. Instead, the Lions walk away with a win. The Atlanta Falcons Defense showed up! This game against the Atlanta Falcons was widely expected to be a shoot-out, with neither defense garnering a whole lot of respect around the league. The Lions were able to bring the defense that showed itself in Jacksonville on the trip to Atlanta, and the Falcons stepped up to ensure the Lions didn’t have an easy day of it. The result was a score that came in under the Vegas O/U by 15 points. The Atlanta Falcons are definitely a better team than their record shows, but for two away games in a row, the Lions were able to cinch up and walk away with a win. On different note, that’s coach Matt Patricia’s first two-win streak since he started coaching the Lions. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees A Test Against The Colts The Lions have been on a great trajectory since the bye week, two wins and a lot of hop starting to come back. The Indianapolis Colts will provide the next test, a better team than both Atlanta and Jacksonville, this feels like the Lions are marching toward the next boss in your favorite video game. Slowly escalating difficulty coupled with a need for an increased level of play to find success. Are the Lions up to the task? The Atlanta Falcons Aren’t A Good Team! They aren’t terrible either. The situation with the Atlanta Falcons front office changes last week wasn’t a case of an owner giving up on their coach and management, it was more a “we need to change things up because they just aren’t working anymore.” The Atlanta Falcons players reacted to the front office shakeup strongly and rushed out to a strong lead against the Vikings early before almost giving up the game in the 4th. We don’t expect them to suddenly rise to greatness, but there are some good players on that team who the Lions need to account for. We discuss that, what the Lions need to do to pull out a victory, and who to look for along the way. Detroit Lions Podcast Predicts A Surprising Outcome We discuss the emergence of the Atlanta Falcons interim coach Raheem Morris and how the players are fighting for him to take the role of permanent Head Coach of the team. As a team who played unexpectedly well last week, the Atlanta Falcons are looking to build on their success after firing coach Dan Quinn and GM Thomas Dimitroff following their 0-5 start. Atlanta Falcons Aren’t A Good Team! The situation with the Atlanta Falcons wasn’t a case of a team giving up on their coach and management, it was more a “we need to change things up because they just aren’t working any more.” The Atlanta Falcons reacted to the news/situation as though it was a wake up call. We don’t expect them to suddenly rise to greatness, but there are some good players on that team who the Lions need to account for. We discuss that, and what to expect. Detroit Lions Podcast Sees An Easier Road Ahead For The Team We discuss the improvement of Matthew Stafford, the emergence of D’Andre Swift, Jarrad Davis and his new found success, and the emergence of a defensive pass rush.
