The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 449 – Movers & Shakers – Ashley Bernardi
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_449-Movers_Shakers-Ashley_Bernardi.mp3
Ashley Bernardi is an entrepreneur, a mom with three young kids, and the author of Authentic Power: Give Yourself Permission to Feel. She runs a PR firm called Nardi Media.
Ashley is a trauma survivor who spent the pandemic meditating upon her early traumas from childhood. When she was 11 years old, her father died tragically in front of her. She buried her feelings around this event for years and didn’t even tell her high school friends that he’d died. Ashley says when you bury uncomfortable feelings—instead of feeling them and moving through them—this is a detriment to your health, wellbeing, and livelihood.
In today’s episode you’ll learn:
Why it’s important to feel your feelings—and to know that no matter how uncomfortable they are, feelings are temporary and won’t last forever
The F.E.E.L. framework—focus, enter, experience, listen, learn, and love (as taught in Ashley’s book)
“Authentic power” means accessing the wisdom you have within you
Ashley’s experience with postpartum depression and Lyme disease, which she sees as her greatest gift—because it was the universe telling her, “Your body has no more room to store the trauma and grief you’ve been burying your whole life”
Every emotion has a specific breathing pattern
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to healing
True healing always seems to have a spiritual component to it
“As human beings, we’re all meant to feel,” Ashley says. “By accessing our feelings and giving ourself permission to feel all the feelings, there is so much growth and transformation within.”
Authentic Power is a fantastic book that I think should be in everybody’s library. It should be required reading for your own spiritual and psychological health.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 448 – Mindset Monday’s – What Am I Resisting?
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_448-TEM90_MDM_09-16-20-What_Am_I_Resisting.mp3
Napoleon Hill says there are seven major positive emotions (or states of mind)—desire, faith, love, sex, enthusiasm, romance, and hope. He says there are seven major negative emotions (or states of mind)—fear, jealousy, hatred, revenge, greed, superstition, and anger. I would also add resistance to that list.
When you’re in resistance, your subconscious mind is trying to keep you from changing. What’s interesting is, you have a very specific process of going into resistance. You might go into denial, blame, confusion, sadness, depression, or procrastination. Your physical body might be affected in a negative way. Or you might walk away from a situation instead of facing it.
We all have a ‘strategy’ for staying in resistance.
In today’s episode you’ll learn:
Why we need to pay close attention to which negative emotions (or states of mind) get in our way, prevent us from seeing the truth, and cause us to keep creating things we DON’T want in our life
“Positive and negative emotions cannot occupy the mind at the same time; one must dominate”
When you’re in resistance, you’re not in harmony with the thing you say you want
Whatever you’re experiencing, it’s a projection of your own thinking—i.e., your own state of mind (this is why the Bible talks so much about not judging, because the moment you go into judgment, it’s about you, not what you’re seeing)
Blame gives away our power and our personal responsibility; it’s also a way of being in control
Problems or “conditions” keep showing up in your life because you’re not seeing the truth about something—and if you change how you see the problem, you can remove it from your life
To extend a loving thought to anyone or anything, removes the opposition
Hill says, “Only when we cease to recognize a condition, do we cease to attract it. The only way we can cease to recognize things is to change our minds about them.”
What are you resisting in yourself that’s causing you to not see the truth?

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 447 – Full Throttle Thursday – Magic or Manipulation? The Santa Claus Conundrum
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_447-Full_Throttle_Thursday-Magic_or_Manipulation-The_Santa_Clause_Conundrum.mp3
**SPOILER ALERT: Don’t listen to this episode with your kids in the car!**
Santa Claus has been around for generations. As adults, we think of Christmas as a time for kids to get excited over presents and visits with Santa. We want to make it a magical time for them and tend to go overboard with the gifts, lights, and festivities. Some parents use Santa Claus as a way to keep their kids in line. After all, Santa knows who’s been naughty or nice. If children are good, they’ll get the presents they want. If they’re naughty, they risk receiving coal in their stocking or, in some cultures, being beaten with a stick.
But what about our own Christmas experiences? How have they shaped us as adults?
In this episode, BT and I discuss how the Santa Claus mythos could be detrimental to developing a successful mind.
You’ll learn:
Whether the intention behind the Santa Claus myth is to encourage focused, good behavior or just to manipulate kids
How jolly fat Saint Nicholas was actually propaganda created by a Civil War cartoonist in the 1860s as a way to bring the country together, because people were so divided over the Civil War
The difference between magical thinking and the law of cause and effect
How the idea of Santa can get kids to think of success only as an end game (i.e., “If I’m good enough, a fat man will come down a chimney and give me presents”)
How the media portrays success only as an end result—it doesn’t show the work, discipline, practice, tough decisions, failures, and mistakes it took to get there
How three Christmas characters—Zwarte Piet, Belsnickel, and Krampus—have been used to scare kids into behaving.
In my company, we teach the law of cause and effect, and how diligent work (not luck or wishful thinking) gets you the desired outcome. While we all have good intentions to celebrate Christmas in the same old ways, we must be honest about the long-term effects those traditions have. We should critically reflect on our own experiences that we had as children around Santa.
However you choose to celebrate, we wish you all a Merry Christmas!

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 446 – Trust vs Magical Thinking – You Must Know the Difference
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_446-TEM90B_MDM_12-21-20-Trust_vs_Magical_Thinking.mp3
Knowing how to evaluate someone’s character and knowing whether or not to trust them is a skillset. Unfortunately, most people weren’t taught how to do this. Growing up, many people (myself included) were taught not to take candy from strangers—and that it’s okay to talk to certain people because they’re “nice.”
The problem is, “nice” isn’t a value by which to evaluate a person’s character. Anyone can have a horrible character and be nice for a few minutes. We can get ourselves into big trouble by hiring people or getting into relationships with someone because they’re “nice.” This is magical thinking, and it often stems from a need to be liked.
In today’s episode you’ll learn:
The difference between trust and magical thinking
Why we need to evaluate a person’s character before we hire them or get into a relationship with them (business or personal)
How I was embezzled out of five million dollars in 2004, because I went into business with people whom I thought were nice—without any deeper evaluation of whether I could trust them
We have to learn trust, starting with ourselves
Why you should hire people based on the merits of what they can do
Plus, I discuss Iyanla Vanzant’s book, Trust, which I consider to be one of the top five “must-read books.” She teaches that in order to trust others, you must first learn how to develop trust with yourself.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 445 – Mindset Monday’s – Seven Levels of Awareness
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_445-TEM90_MDM_09-04-20-The_Seven_Levels_of_Awareness.mp3
In today’s episode I’m teaching on the seven levels of awareness that you can experience as a human being.
These are:
Animal—Basic survival instincts. Many people in third world countries where there’s extreme poverty are at this level. The main question is always, “How do we survive?”
Mass consciousness—Beliefs are driven into people that aren’t based in factual evidence; they’re emotional and fear driven. We see this as large groups of people become indoctrinated in mass consciousness.
Aspiration—We start thinking beyond mass consciousness and aspire to find the truth. We look for something else about ourselves that can move us forward in a different direction.
Individuality—We start to accept ourselves for who we are. They get to know ourselves and want to express ourselves. We start to care less and less about what other people think.
Discipline—We become “a disciple or student of” something that we’re working to master…whether it’s health and fitness, becoming wealthy, running an eight figure business, marketing, or anything else.
Experience—We practice the thing we’re going to master. We become a cause set in motion. We’re practicing cause and effect. We’re getting feedback, which shows up as results, circumstances, environment, people, places, and things. Everything becomes a reflection for us.
Mastery—We go through the process over and over again, until we start to internalize it. We become so proficient at it, we don’t have to think about it. It becomes automatic.
Today, think about these levels of awareness in all the different areas of your life. Ask yourself, “Where am I in those levels with different things?” Just because you’re aware in one area of your life doesn’t mean you’re aware in another area.
The goal is to really indoctrinate and train yourself to think successfully—where you’re always asking the right questions about something. You’re never getting sucked into a rabbit hole emotionally. You automatically think about the things that need to be done, based on cause and effect.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 444 – Full Throttle Thursday – Ear Candy For Your Holiday Road Trips
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_444-Full_Throttle_Thursday-Ear_Candy_For_Your_Holiday_Road_Trips.mp3
My podcast listeners are always asking, “What are you currently reading or listening to?” With the upcoming holiday road trips, I decided to share some of my favorites.
Always a student, I listen to podcasts and audiobooks for two reasons—interest and learning. I’m fascinated with how people conduct their podcasts—their communication skills, speaking abilities, patterns of speech, how they interview others, how they run their show, and the rhythm of their podcast. I pay attention to what I like and don’t like about the guests (and the show itself), and what makes me to want to sit through a three-hour show.
In this episode BT and I discuss:
Which podcasts and audiobooks we’re listening to, why we listen, and why you might want to listen too
How you can learn from every person (even those you don’t like)—and why you should learn from every person
How Joe Rogan’s personality has evolved since the early years of his podcast—and how he learned to NOT get so emotionally involved with what other people are thinking or saying
How so many people still think the news is true, even though very little of it is based in truth—it’s all based in narrative or the slant that one side wants to play over another
Why I like listening to both sides of an issue, because you can learn from both sides
I hope you enjoy these resources and maybe even be inspired to start your own podcast one day!

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 443 – See Beyond the Appearance of Things
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_443-TEM90_MDM_09-11-20-See_Beyond_the_Appearance_of_Things.mp3
The connection with God or the universe is never severed. It’s with you all the time. You’re either using the energy to move towards growth or disintegration—but it’s always there. The energy never leaves.
For that reason, we don’t need to operate in fear. If something doesn’t happen the way you wanted it to happen, there’s a reason for that. There’s a ‘cause and effect’ at play. So what’s the use of being disappointed about it? If we stay in gratitude, we can figure out what caused it to happen. We should never allow ourselves to feel disappointed, because that indicates entitlement.
In today’s episode you’ll learn:
If you obey the universal laws, you cannot fail to get rich
Why you must always speak in terms of advancement, not failure (because to do otherwise is to deny your faith—and to deny your faith is to lose it)
Why you need to be above fear
If you believe everything you need is already here, this gets rid of worry and doubt
If you do the thing, you’ll get the energy to do the thing
You get the equivalent of what you become
Every difficulty contains the ability for it to be overcome. As Wallace Wattles says in The Science of Getting Rich, we should only be concerned with doing today’s work in a perfectly successful manner. We don’t need to concern ourselves with the emergencies of the future. When and if those arise, we have the resources to handle them in the future—because of our connection with God or the universe.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 442 – Mindset Monday’s – Triggers Are a Window To Your Breakthrough
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_442-TEM90_MDM_09-10-20-Triggers_Are_a_Window_to_Your_Breakthrough.mp3
Think of the last time you got really upset by something. This is what’s known as a “trigger.” A trigger signals a ‘growth edge’ in you—a.k.a., an area where you need to learn something or grow beyond something.
Because it doesn’t feel good, many people want to walk away from the situation, or get it to stop. But a trigger isn’t something to run away from. It’s something to pay close attention to. It’s a window to your breakthrough.
You could also say a trigger is whatever you’re resisting being, doing, or having. “Whatever I resist, my breakthrough is there also.”
In today’s episode you’ll learn:
Being attached to something that’s changing, is what causes a trigger inside
Change can seem difficult, because we resist letting go of something we’re attached to—but it’s not actually difficult
Your thinking is a creative force that causes the universe to respond
It doesn’t matter whether you’re creating something good or bad—it’s your THOUGHTS that are creating it
Thinking and acting in a certain way will bring riches to you
You must arrange your own business affairs so that you can receive “supply” from the universe when it comes to you—even if the channels of distribution have changed
Triggers can happen with everything—your business, your team, a client, a partner, spouse, friend, parent, family, COVID, the economy, or the channels of distribution changing.
Regardless of your circumstance, it’s telling you there’s something here—within this upsetting situation—that you need to learn. If you really go deep into it, you’ll find your next level of growth.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 441 – Full Throttle Thursday – A Propensity for Prosperity & Why I Pay Full Price
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_441-Full_Throttle_Thursday-WhyIPayFullPrice.mp3
Most people have been programmed to believe there’s a lack of money or resources in the world. Marketers take advantage of this by manipulating people to buy, based on their fear of lack. This causes people to cut coupons, chase after discounts and sales, and try to get something for nothing. They try to shortcut life in all kinds of ways.
Having studied prosperity for many decades, I’m now one of the world’s leading experts on this topic. And whenever I talk about how bargain-hunting affects your income in a negative way—many people get triggered and fiercely reject this idea.
In today’s episode, BT and I discuss:
Why I pay full price for things and don’t waste energy waiting around for discounts
How we’re taught from day 1 that there’s “not enough”—and how this idea gets programmed into a person’s mind (when, in fact, it’s total BS)
Why putting lack out into the universe will cause lack to come right back to you
Why you shouldn’t have to rearrange your entire life in order to take advantage of a $20 sale on a pair of shoes
How the Law of Cause and Effect plays a role in your ability to create wealth
How, when you cut something out of your life because you don’t have a discount for it, you’re limiting your experience in life
In my company we help people understand the truth—which is that the universe is completely abundant. We teach people how to earn whatever amount of money they need, whenever they need it. I believe true wealth and prosperity isn’t how much you have in the bank—it’s your ability to create the amount of money you need right now, and to develop a skill set to be able to do it.
When you have no fear because you can create prosperity whenever you need it, that’s total freedom.

The Successful Mind Podcast – Episode 440 – In Search of the Truth: Nico Jenkins
https://media.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/content.blubrry.com/thesuccessfulmindpodcast/TSM_Episode_440-In_Search_of_the_Truth-Nico_Jenkins.mp3
Nico Jenkins, Ph.D, is a professor of philosophy at the Maine College of Art in Portland, Maine. We had a fascinating discussion about the current education system and the direction that it’s going in, especially in the United States.
Having grown up all around the world—with a family of writers, Pulitzer Prize winners, and a father who was a war journalist for Newsweek and then the Washington Post—Nico wasn’t exposed to the American education system at a young age. But having taught many students, he believes our current education system has many problems.
In today’s episode, we discuss:
Nico’s experience firsthand with students who’ve shown significant gaps in their education—including many of them not knowing what the Mona Lisa is or where certain countries are on a map
What a “common currency” is and why we need a base of understanding in order to even teach about art, critique it, and decide whether it’s beautiful (because without having that common currency—it’s almost impossible to have a cultural connection)
What has changed between the college students of the ‘60s and the college students of today
How the rise in technology and distractions (by devices) have impacted kids and their education
Where the divisive temperaments are coming from—and why people are so far apart in understanding things that have been common issues in our country
How many of Nico’s first-year students are having many problems with socialization—because they spent the last two years in their mother’s basement looking at a screen—and the impact this is having on them
Why students are so depressed about things like climate change (with good reason), that they feel like there’s no point in doing anything about it
