Social Media Tightrope (Bob Minhas)

Special "Business Revenue Leak Checklist" offer free at http://www.mrse.co/leak.There is a precarious line between using social media as a cooperative marketing tool for your business and using it as a source of personal validation and fulfillment. That line can be difficult to navigate if we are not taking stock and being completely honest about our use of social media. Business Coach Bob Minhas talks candidly about his own struggles with social media addiction and how he helps clients (and himself) identify issues and get the most out of using social media as a tool - or not at all. In this episode, Melinda and Bob guide coaches through auditing social media habits, giving valuable tips to the healthy and effective use of any platform. When we learn to manage the use of social media in our own business and personal lives, we can help our clients reap the benefits of this handy tool while avoiding potential pitfalls. In this episode we discuss:Does your business even need social media to thrive? How to draw boundaries with social media usage. The difference between responding and reacting to social media activity.Using social media as one tool and not the whole toolbox. How to be aware of your true social media intentions.Delegating social media responsibilities to avoid personal attachment. How too much focus on social media can lead to burnout and overwhelm.Addressing clients’ fears regarding the use of social media.“When you're building a business, the fundamental core of your business is really about who it is that you're trying to serve, and social media is not the only way to reach those people.” “When you have a curated, crafted plan, it allows you to avoid the black hole, the sinkhole, the idea that you need to be on there all the time.”  – Bob MinhasGuest Bio:  Bob Minhas started his entrepreneurial career by building a quarter-million dollar tech business with no advertising and gaining celebrity status with his HGTV Canada appearances. The Judgment Engine (Marisa Murray)

Special "Business Revenue Leak Checklist" offer free at http://www.mrse.co/leak.When judgment revs up, it can be hard to recognize and even harder to stop, subsequently slowing or even halting progress with a client. Marisa Murray, CEO of Leaderley, has asked herself the tough questions about judgment in her own coaching practice of top executives. She knows first hand that when the judgment train leaves the station, coaches can no longer hold a safe coaching space for their clients.      Fortunately, Marisa has honed in on three absolute truths that any coach can use to slow the judgment engine down and resume positive momentum for a client. Melinda chimes in with some truly insightful advice of her own as she discusses with Marisa what every coach has experienced at least once in their career, and likely more often for seasoned coaches. Together, Marisa and Melinda explore how our judgement engine gets started, what fuels it and how we can slow, stop and even reverse it. In this episode we discuss:How to recognize when your voice of judgment shows up.How a client’s triggers can trigger you.Why seasoned coaches are more vulnerable to the judgment engine. A framework for communication to keep us out of judgment. How transparency and integrity can turn things around. The three absolute truths you can use to slow and reverse the momentum of judgment. How to stay in discovery and out of judgment. The importance of trust, faith and deep compassion with your clients. How to hold a hypothesis and let the client verify your discovery theories.“Fear will accelerate the judgment engine, and faith will slow it down.” “The only one that’s allowed to be the judge in the conversation is the client.”– Marisa MurrayCredits:Guest: Marisa MurrayHost: Melinda CohanProduced and written: Cynthia Lamb Executive producer: Danny InyAssembled by: Michi Lantz Audio Post Supervisor: Evan Miles, Christopher MartinAudio Post Production: Post Office SoundMusic soundscape: Chad Michael Snavely     If you don't want to miss future episodes of Just Between Coaches, please subscribe to Apple podcasts or Spotify or wherever you're listening right now. Team’s Pick 2021 (Liz Scully)

Special "Business Revenue Leak Checklist" offer free at http://www.mrse.co/leak.Here's the link to learn more about Danny's special offer: http://www.Mirasee.FM/intensiveIt can be extremely challenging and difficult for coaches when we suspect a client is lying. There are nuances to lying; not all lies are detrimental, and some can even serve as self-protection. Wait, what? Isn’t a lie a lie? The answer, it turns out, isn’t so simple. Today’s conversation is all about how to tell when your client is lying, how to handle the situation, and whether or not the lie is even worth addressing.  In this episode, host Melinda Cohan has an eye-opening and lively conversation with Liz Scully, founder of Rethink Central, an organization that provides business strategies for entrepreneurs. Melinda and Liz discuss the motivations behind lying and ways to spot a lie, including uncontrollable micro-expressions. Liz explains the difference between big lies and so-called white lies, and the coaches address some compelling situations in which you might want to avoid challenging a client’s dishonesty. •In this episode we discuss:How an animator became an expert in lie detection. The role of microexpressions in lie detection. The difference between big untruths and the so-called social lies. What are the signs of lying? What to do when you suspect your client is lying. Reasons to not challenge a client's lie or a story that they tell themselves.  “Because we all think that we're kind of a closed perfect circuit. And, obviously, we're not. We're leaking information all the time.” – Liz Scully   Liz ScullyGuest bio: Liz Scully spent 20 years working on big Hollywood films - she’s won an Emmy, and her work is multi-Oscar nominated. Now, she’s a business strategist and a Mastermind coach and KNOWS business can be ridiculously fun as well as highly effective.  She’s Irish, nomadic and as confused as everyone else why she has an English accent.   •Resources or websites mentioned in this episode:Mirasee Coaches Console Rethinkcentral.comMalcolm Gladwell’s book - Blink  •Credits:Guest - Liz ScullyHost - Melinda CohanProducer - Cynthia Lamb Executive producer - Danny InyWriter - Michi Lantz, Melinda Cohan and Cynthia LambAssembled by - Geoff GovertsenAudio Post Supervisor: Evan Miles, Christopher MartinAudio Post Production by Post Office SoundMusic soundscape: Chad Michael Snavely       If you don't want to miss future episodes of Just Between Coaches, please subscribe to Apple podcasts or Spotify or wherever you're listening right now. (Liz Scully)[00:00:01] Melinda: Mirasee.Michi: Hi. Welcome to Just Between coaches. Now you may be wondering what's going on here. Where's Melinda. Well, I'm Michi, part of the team behind Melinda on this show, and we thought it would be fun to rerun a favorite episode to end the year. One particular topic I find intriguing and the episode I chose is the one where Melinda has a conversation with the Liz Scully about lies. They discuss why we lie, the difference between social lies and blatant untruths. Fascinating! It turns out that we all lie, coaches and non-coaches alike, and Liz says but it's also part of keeping the social fabric together. Liz has an entertaining way to describe the different variants of lies and what purpose they serve. So thank you, to you, our listeners, our guests and welcome to our upcoming guests. I wish you all a Happy New Year. And here's Melinda and Liz...[00:00:05] Liz: I actually hear lies better than I see them because that is often two things that happen when someone's about to tell a lie. There is a longer than expected pause while they think of the lie and there will be a pitch change. Sometimes some people get squeaky, we've all seen that as a kid. No, we didn't eat the sweets and you're like, yes, you did.[00:00:31] Melinda: Hello and welcome to just between coaches, the podcast that tackles difficult coaching conversations head on. My name is Melinda Cohan and I run a business called the coaches console. The Coaches Console has supported more than 50,000 entrepreneurs and creating their own profitable coaching business.  I've invited Liz Scully onto just between coaches to discuss a topic that can be challenging to talk about lying. We'll look into different types of lies, how to detect them and what you as a coach can do about it. Liz is the founder of Rethink Central that provides business strategies for entrepreneurs. She's also a mastermind coach for influential coaches. Before I bring Liz on, I'll start with reading an email from a list...

These two seasoned coaches share their professional experience and insight into what really may be going on with a hesitant client and how it just might unmask a great coaching opportunity. In this episode we discuss:Do you need expertise in your client’s industry to coach business leaders? What about culture? Do you need to share your client’s culture?Do life coaches need to share the major life experience of their clients?  What is the difference between a coach and a consultant? Can you combine the two?How can you find hidden coaching opportunities with hesitant potential clients? How can not knowing a client’s industry actually be a benefit to the coaching relationship?“I think typically, ‘you need to know everything about my industry when you're coaching me’, is a mask for not wanting to do the deep work that is needed. ”– Kristin VesaKristin Vesa is a business consultant and coach, helping conscious entrepreneurs and B2Bs increase revenue, streamline processes, and prosper in alignment with their values. Defining a Niche (Sharon Richmond)

Special "Business Revenue Leak Checklist" offer free at http://www.mrse.co/leak.The idea of narrowing the scope of your coaching business to a specific niche can seem a bit scary and counterintuitive. Sharon Richmond, the founder of Leading Large, acknowledges and understands first-hand that fear and hesitation and explains why clarifying a niche is actually expansive, not limiting.     In this episode, densely packed with answers and advice, Melinda and Sharon discuss how to define a niche as well as the benefits of appealing to a specific client base and what Sharon calls “targeting value”. Similar clients have similar pain points, so targeting a particular client base provides opportunities for shared stories and growth for your clients and for your business. It’s not so much about demographics but about common challenges. Sharon recounts her experience of honing in on her coaching niche and the enormous benefits it has brought to both her and her clients.         In this episode we discuss:Should you define a niche? How can you determine what your specific niche should be?Will you lose opportunities and clients? What about newer coaches just starting out?How can clarifying a niche help with marketing efforts?“Mostly what kept me from being able to define a niche is that I wasn’t confident enough or clear enough myself to be able to describe the who and why of my practice.” “[Narrowing] allows clients to find me and know that I am someone that works with people just like them, and that turns out to be the biggest thing.”  – Sharon RichmondSharon RichmondGuest bio: My executive clients are amazing leaders, and are building companies they are proud of.
