Get Invested: Lacey Filipich on keys to becoming financially independent and time rich

For Lacey Filipich, being time rich means choosing how you spend the seconds, minutes, hours and days that make up your life so you choose how and where you spend your time. And she helps you to achieve financial independence by mastering money - through saving, buying assets and eliminating bad debt. She believes financial independence is achievable for anyone with an income and a long enough timeline. Lacey is well known for translating financial concepts into plain english and breaking down what seems complex into simple, straightforward steps. Her approach to personal finance focuses on EDUCATION, not prescription. She firmly believes that by helping you with some knowledge, you can make all the financial decisions you need to help yourself. And She wants you to choose your own financial adventure, not follow a recipe. She knows that a one-size-fits-all advice doesn’t work, as she knows that there's more than one way to skin the financial independence cat. Lacey also knows that it is never too late to improve your financial situation. And the younger you start, the better - because the magic of compounding returns has more time to take effect. And interestingly, she’s not a financial advisor or planner. She’s a chemical engineer who couldn't accept the financial education gap any more, and so launched her businesses to help you fix the problem for yourself and your kids. Everything she does today – including speaking in women’s prisons, teaching kids to start businesses, volunteering with groups like Women in Technology WA, and writing books – is about helping you become financially capable so you too can become time rich. Lacey’s motto is that money is about choice. The more money you have, the more choices you have. So if you’re looking for help in managing your money and investing in your future so you can start developing the self control required to enjoy the fruits of delayed gratification, grab yourself a copy of her book Money School or do one of her online courses on achieving financial independence, raising financially savvy children or becoming debt free now – all of which you can access via her website www.moneyschool.org.au  In the meantime, enjoy this energetic and enjoyable chat with Lacey Filipich. Get Invested: Kate Christie on how to better invest your time

Imagine what you could do if you created an extra 30 hours a month of free ‘me time’ – that’s nearly four days a month or nearly 48 days a year. Because this is exactly what Kate Christie can do for you. Kate is a time investment expert, international speaker and best selling author of four books so far. She works with big and small business, entrepreneurs, C-suite executives, educators, and government agencies - on individual, team and organisational productivity.   She’s a self-professed time styler and she specialises in helping you to find more time. Kate has stepped thousands of people through her SMART time framework and 4 lens approach that we discuss in detail today. She is the time management expert for Kochie’s Business Builders, which is Australia’s leading small business TV program, has enjoyed multiple high profile media appearances and is a leading commentator on smart time management.  In our energising and engaging chat today, you’ll gain real practical and tactical advice that you can implement for immediate time gains. In her down to earth way, Kate educates us on better ways to choose how to live, work and play – on maximising our time so we can all live the life we love. But before we dive into the conversation, I’m going to challenge you with a simple daily exercise that will help you create this free me time and put it to great use, because there’s no point freeing up your time if you’re just going to work longer or worse still, waste it mindlessly finger flicking on social media or binging on Netflix. They say you need to do something 64 times before you create a new habit so I challenge you to do this every day for the next 13 weeks. Every morning when you wake up, hit the snooze button and do this quick easy mental exercise. With your eyes closed, think about a time when you felt really good, a time when there was no time pressure, it may have been a long holiday, and really re-live those feelings, really re-connect with how good it feels to have time on your hands and feel it in every fibre of your body with a beaming smile on your face – then start giving thanks for everything that’s good in your life (eg thanks for my life, thanks for my wife, thanks for my son and daughter, thanks for all of the great times, thanks for all of the time I have – give thanks for anything no matter how big or small to really heighten that feeling of peace, tranquillity and contentment, and then mentally repeat this mantra - Time Free Me, Time Free Me, Time Free Me, as you imagine and really feel what it’s like to have lots of time on your hands. Now I know that many of you are now thinking, ‘come on Bushy, this is a bit weird and woo, woo, but stay with me here – what have you got to lose? Just spend your first five waking minutes in between the snooze button visualising and feeling how good it is to have lots of free time for the next 13 weeks and see what happens – feel free to email me on bushy@khgroup.com.au in two months time to let me know how you go. From personal experience I know that you’re going to be shocked with the results because what you think about is what you bring about, but only if you stick at it consistently. And now to start investing your time to get your time back, enjoy this entertaining chat with Kate Christie. Get Invested: Paul Migus on authentic, servant leadership

Paul Migus exemplifies the authentic, servant leader. He is humble and he always underplays his talent and achievements - a rare trait that I admire most in true leaders. So here’s a snapshot of his incredible leadership career. Paul’s a proud Canadian who started his career with the federal government as a clerk in the early 1970s, and enjoyed a meteoric international rise from archivist and researcher, through multiple Director General roles and up to the level of Assistant Deputy Minister for a number of departments in the Australian and Canadian Governments. Since retiring from the Government, Paul and his wife Eva have been leading and managing their own consulting business, LGT Executive Performance Inc., a management consultancy specialising in executive performance in the public sectors across international, federal, provincial and municipal government and not for profit sectors. His many and diverse areas of expertise includes strategic leadership advice, service transformation, strategic portfolio management, and senior executive change leadership. Honouring his family’s European heritage, he’s also been active in the Ukrainian Canadian community in Toronto and Ottawa for over 50 years, culminating in leadership roles in the Ukrainian National Youth Federation, and the Ukrainian National Federation of Canada. In recent times, Paul has been helping the Government of Ukraine introduce public administration reforms leading to association membership with the European Union. After Putin’s Russian invasion of the Ukraine, Paul was an advisor to the Ukraine Minister of Finance and the Minister of Economic Development and Trade where he met the Prime Minister and the President of Ukraine and led discussions with their senior advisors about reforms to their Public Service. After he and his wife both suffered and survived bouts of cancer, Paul is now winding down his professional and community activities and, as his wife likes to say, moving into ‘rewirement’ – a perfect time for him to reflect on his accumulated leadership expertise and his insights on where we are now and what type of leadership we need to individually and collectively adopt to survive and thrive in the days ahead.   During our great catch up we delve into all of the important leadership and lifestyle questions, including: What are the key leadership qualities and approaches you need to adopt? Who are the good and bad leaders in the world today? Why is Caring, Sharing and Daring an important leadership maxim? What’s the importance of truth to power and when is it appropriate? What’s the difference between men and women as leaders? What impact does life threatening conditions have on your current and future outlook? Enjoy the discussion with Paul Migus. Get Invested: Simon Pressley on how to make smart property investment decisions

In the world of property investment, Simon Pressley is like a doctor – he’s one of those rare independent impartial experts. Simon’s a property market analyst, a buyer’s agent and an accredited property advisor. He’s the MD of Propertyology and a three-time Australian Buyer’s Agent of the Year. Like me, Simon’s passionate about helping you build a more sustainable lifestyle by making astute property investment decisions. He’s a strong lateral thinker and like many investment greats, spends hours a day studying property economics across Australia. Simon is an expert in your corner and a contrarian. He doesn’t go with what is common or popular, or what supports preconceived ideas, biases or self interest agendas, he goes on what his deep research analysis is telling him is good for property investors. He focusses on future indicators of growth, not past history – in lead indicators not lag indicators – in other words, he’s learnt to focus on what really matters, and interestingly a lot of this is contrary to popular opinion – and experience has shown that its often the contrarians that are successful long term. Just look at the world’s greatest living investor Warren Buffet as another example of someone who bucks the trends to produce outstanding sustainable results. So in our broad ranging discussion today, Simon answers all of your key questions when it comes to investing in property: - What information should you rely on and what information is misleading? - What really drives property growth? - What is likely to happen with property values in the short, medium term and long term? - Where are the best places to invest? - And why use a buyer's agent to find and negotiate the purchase of the best property to suit you? And in a Get Invested scoop, Simon gives us his first exclusive glimpse of his upcoming property report on where the best property growth zones will be around Australia, state by state – and you may be surprised on his predictions, so make sure you tune in on this. And If you want to get a free copy of this report, just email me at bushy@khgroup.com.au and I’ll forward you a copy, along with some other goodies. If you like what you hear from Simon today, I strongly recommend that you jump on his website at https://www.propertyology.com.au/newsletter-sign-up/ to get his free regular insight reports on all things property investment – I’ve been reading them for years and they’re full of investment gold. Get Invested: Doug Adamson on questions, creativity and innovation

To help you make the shift from conformity to creativity and innovation by learning to ask better questions, and the right questions, today’s guest Doug Adamson is the perfect antidote. Doug has spent his entire life asking the right questions as a key ingredient for his initial and ongoing success.  As an inquisitive boy from good old Adelaide, after completing his training as an electronic engineer in the early 1980s, Doug’s first proper business in the UK involved producing radio shows and interviewing rock stars such as the Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Talking Heads, Sting, Pink Floyd, Mark Knofler and many more – what a great way to develop your questioning skills by sitting face to face with the world’s greatest rock legends – and we have some fun digging into his experience with many of my music heroes.  And his constant questioning and pursuit of improvement and innovation also led him to become a world record holder in an obscure branch of cycling. Since then, Doug has gone on to entrepreneurially build a number of companies in the UK, Europe, South East Asia and Australia - mostly commercialising new ideas.  He’s also founded a business in organics, acquired a boutique tourism business, and made several angel investments. Along his evolving progression, he’s built expertise in investment management and capital raising via his experience with early stage venture capital funds. Doug now loves filling his days working with innovative companies. Doug is motivated by questioning, testing and helping businesses bring new products to the market.  Doug's book recommendation: The Barefoot Investor by Scott Pape Get Invested is the podcast dedicated to time poor professionals who want to work less and live more.
