Dar: I am of south asian decent and find it interesting that some of the stories my dad has told me about religious (I think they are called yogis in india) who lived by the village he grew up in, regularly only used to eat food once or twice a month due to religious reasons. How is this possible and what are your views on that? It does not sound like that could be healthy. Courtney: Hello I've been dealing with melasma and hemosidren and I also have breast implant scars. I was wondering if you know the causes of the hemosidren and melasma? Also I was wondering if you knew natural ways to get rid of them??Thanks!! Cass: Hi Doctor Cabral, Im a IHP level 2 Student and have a few questions. I have ran the big 5 in Australia. I have had stage 6 adrenal exhaustion and hypothyroid for at least 10 years. I also have a history of hyperthyroid as it switches between the two. No thyroid antibodies. Low sex hormones all round with a little higher oestrogen not high. Low DHEA of 2.1, TSH 4.57. I've done 4x EN detox, CBO, Parasite Cleanse. Take DNS, natural calm, zinc, B vit, melatonin, Thyroid support, adrenal soothe, adrenal energy, daily pro biotic, digestive enzymes and oestrogen balance 1/3 cap in my luteal phase. My cycle is between 26 to 38 days. I am 5.7 145 pounds, exercise every other day and have a active job and lifestyle. Super clean eater and only eat wild caught fish and organic fruit and veg. I have lots of time for myself and practice lots of self care. I know that my mindset is what holds me back due programming from my parents and not believing I'm enough but I'm really working on it. First question, should I be doing the FM detox when my body adrenals are exhausted? second question, I have been doing the 21 days weight loss diet and have not lost any wight at all. I put on a 6 pounds in two weeks when on holidays in October and have not lost it since. Should I have doing a weight loss diet if my thyroid is already under functioning? I am hoping to fall pregnant ASAP as I'm 36 and time is not on my side. I have been following all your protocols for over 18 months I look forward to hearing your recommendations. Jacquie: Hi Dr. Cabral! Thank you so much for the knowledge you share on your podcast, it has truly been life changing. I have a question regarding my brother. He tried a high protein diet and was feeling ill. Turns out that one of his kidneys is very small (they think he was born that way). Looks like he has only one good functioning kidney and the high protein diet was too much on his body. He is off the high protein diet, is now more open to a balanced diet and is already feeling better. My question is what can he do (other than the daily foundational support) to further support his body now knowing this? Would you recommend normal protein diet or one that is lower in protein? I suspect that these could be from a food intolerance, although i haven't pinned down any food that may be causing them. I'm wondering if you've come across this before, and if you have any answers for what may be causing this, as I've gotten these on and off for most of my life. Thank you! Lucy: Hi Dr. Cabral! My stepmom is suffering from a ganglion cyst on her palm. It's not bad yet but she's had surgery to remove them before and they keep coming back. I did a search on your podcast and didn't see anything so would love to see if there are natural remedies for treating and preventing ganglion cysts! Thanks for all that you do! Lisa: Hi Dr. Cabral, First I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for being someone I can trust to help me sift through all of the information out there on health, fitness, longevity and wellness. You're the best! A few years ago I started seeing a functional medicine practitioner. She tested my homocysteine levels which came back at a whopping 87! I am an otherwise very healthy 50 year old woman. I have tried various protocols to get my homocysteine levels down, and have been successful supplementing with very high doses of methylated folate, B12, TMG, etc. However, I am extremely sensitive to these methyl donors and become extremely agitated, angry, and anxious, so although the homocysteine drops to a 12 I am absolutely miserable. So I've stopped taking methylated Bs and the levels rise back up to the mid 40's. Is there any protocol you recommend to those of us with MTHFR SNPs who are struggling with hyperhomocysteinemia? She has a patch of dry/red skin (the dryness and the redness fluctuates) at the base of her neck. Also a small dry/pink patch on her arm. She has had these patches since she was about 2 months old and she is now 7 months. She is unaware of them. I saw a naturopath and have since eliminated dairy from my diet. This Friday will be a month without dairy and I don't think there has been any change. It is my second breast cancer diagnosis in eight years. I am extremely healthy and was really perplexed about why I was getting sick again. I thought maybe from having meat in my diet, and stress?.....Since then I had genetic testing done and I tested positive for the BRCA2 gene mutation. So I think my question has been answered! If not, what would you recommend.Thanks for all your knowledge.Jon from Aus Vivian: Hello, I just listened to the faster way to fat loss pod cast and you were so interesting. I did the faster way over the summer and while it was good I still didn't see the results I was hoping for. I just had a bunch of blood work done and wanted to know if you do any consulting. I'd love to have you take a look at the results of my bloodwork and let me know what you think. Basically I'm 45 and I've been steadily gaining weight over the past year. I'm not overweight but if I continue on this path I will be overweight soon.I workout 3-5 days a week with a combination of strength training and running/ walking and some yoga. I eat a whole food diet but I do enjoy wine when I eat out once a week or so and I do have a sweet tooth but it's minimal. I drink one cup of coffee per day with a tablespoon of cream. According to my doctor all of my numbers are in the normal range some low end but still with in normal limits. I'm so frustrated with my weight I'm not sure what to do.I do the intermittent fasting but after hearing you speak I'm wondering if that is helping or possibly hurting me. I try to do the 16/8 but it's very hard for me. I find myself starving after 13 or 14 hr fast. Anyway, would love to get your feedback if you do that. Thanks, Vivian Kristin: Hi Dr. Cabral, I listen to your podcast often while working and enjoy all the great info. on healthcare, etc. I have learned so much and my husband and I are looking forward to doing the 21 day detox in January! I have a little beef I gotta get off my chest...just kidding :-) I did want to mention though, after listening to episode 741 of the podcasts, that Jazzercise is a great workout! I'm 35 and I have tried many different types of exercise and I have found that so much of what is out there is just way to difficult to sustain for more than a few months, and I want something I can do for many seasons of life. I tried Jazzercise since I was always drawn to dance aerobics and have ended up loving it. Each 55 min. class includes 20-30 mins. of cardio, some stretching, and weight training. You can also adjust your level of difficulty by how much "umph" you put into your moves and how heavy of weights you use. The ladies in there are in great shape and are strong. I realized how well this was working for me when I decided to go running one day, without any training, just to mix it up. I ran 1 1/2 miles, faster than I had ever ran. I think I could have run further but it was in the dead of summer and the heat was a lot. I could tell that my cardio endurance has reached a new level. Anyway, I just wanted to mention this since you like knowing what's out there and getting information about all types of diets and exercise. Maybe you could give Jazzercise a second glance. I've spent a lot of money on supplements and a local naturopathic doctor, including a blood and hormone test. I have some gut dysbiosis and severe estrogen dominance symptoms. I am also a college student and have found myself in a lot of credit card debt. I've finally had to crack down and make a tight budget. I try to eat mostly blant-based, dairy free, and gluten free - however, my healing fluctuates because I don't always stick to these guidelines 100 percent. I'm currently taking your multi-vitamins, probiotics and omega 3's, some digestive enzymes, ester-c, DIM, evening primrose oil, and some herbs to support the liver and menstruation. I have some supplements to tide me over for a while, but I'm wondering when I run out, what to do? My monthly budget for supplements will probably be 20 dollars. Would some lower quality vitamins do anything, or do I need to just try to be very mindful of my diet to get all my nutrients? Also I was wondering if you have any tips with groceries. I try to get organic when I can, but some things I have to pick and choose. My grocery store also has gluten-free oats, and organic oats in the bulk section, but not gluten-free organic. Is it better to go with gluten-free, or just get the organic? Any tips you would have for staying healthy on a budget would be much appreciated.Thanks! Simon: Hi Dr Cabral I have some questions on perfecting my Post Workout Shakes. I am a fit vata-pita wanting to put on lean muscle mass and increase overall health and longevity. 1) what would you recommend as a healthy (powdered) carb to use in a post workout mix for muscle recovery and weight gain? I have previously used maltodextrin (but stopped because it is basically sugar) then waxy maize starch (which seemed good but is corn-based) then transitioned away from carbs altogether after getting into the whole low/no-carb 'craze'. Now having listened to your podcasts I understand a reasonable amount of carbs before/after workouts may benefit my gains and health. You recommend a fruit smoothie however I need a pre-mixed powder (which I'm happy to formulate myself in bulk). At present my (non-carb) mix consist of: grass-fed whey; collagen peptides (for gut health); BCAAs; glutamine; spirulina (antioxidants) and stevia. I care more about results that flavour! Any recommendations for a healthy powdered carb addition? I was thinking maybe powdered organic fruit but what are your thoughts on waxy maize starch or Palatinose as options? 2) How important is it to include antioxidants straight after an intense workout? I have heard some say antioxidants can actually dampen some of the positive (stressors?) of working out?
