2137: Synthetic vs "Natural" Vitamins, Curcumin, Guillain-Barré Syndrome, Burning Mouth Syndrome, Food Pairing, Folliculitis Fix (HouseCall)

I'm looking forward to sharing with you some of our community's questions that have come in over the past few weeks… Let's get started! Francisco: Hello Dr. Cabral! I hope you had a lovely day so far. My question is related to multivitamins. I've heard so much controversy on this specific topic and there are so many individuals that state that multivitamins made from whole foods are the only multi vitamins that really work. That is why they're more expensive because they're the only ones that the body truly absorbs. This means that I've been taking a synthetic form of vitamins for years! For example, ascorbic acid for vitamin C, methylcobalamin as B12, etc. Apparently these are all synthetic so not absorbed and I should look for a whole food vitamin instead. What are your thoughts? Victor: I was listening to a house call and you mentioned how you don't recommend straight curcumin on a daily basis. I've been taking 500mg of curcumin with bioperine as part of my daily foundational protocol on top of DNS, omega-3pm, vitamin D, magnesium, vit C, zinc etc. I don't have inflammation but I just take it to optimise my health. What are your thoughts? Lindsey: Hello Dr. Cabral. I hope you are having an amazing day. Your podcast archive is always where I turn to when a friend is dealing with anything health related. I was surprised recently when I couldn't find a podcast talking about Guillain-Barré syndrome. Can you shed any light on this and possible ways to heal the root cause? You are much appreciated! Don: Recently, my tongue began burning throughout the day as if it is being continually scalded by boiling water. I have been told that Burning Mouth Syndrome may go away on its own in 3-5 years. Are there any other options which could give a quicker resolution? Thank you for the podcast and all you do to help others. Alina: I'm going to join all the others in thanking your for the work you do for the health community and for my own education! I have been struggling with SIBO for a few years and finally now on the CBO protocol. I recently have learned about food combining and food layering. I have listened to all your podcasts on it but still have a few specific questions. Are nut butters or protein bars with nut butters easier to digest than nuts in whole form? What protein will food combine well with oatmeal, quinoa, or rice? I see only carbohydrates and proteins pair well with vegetables (and carbohydrates with fats/oils as well). I love oatmeal but have heard it's important to have protein in each meal. I'm unsure how to do this with proper food combining. Also, should salads with a protein (like fish or eggs) not have dressing on it since protein does not pair with oils? What combines well with hemp hearts? Thanks I'm advance! P.S. I would ask your support team but I don't see an option unless you have Facebook? Mary: I never used to have scalp issues and about 3 years ago I began to get really bad folliculitis. I've tried antibiotics, I've cut out sugar, gluten, dairy and meat and still have terrible bouts of folliculitis that results in huge pus filled welts that are painful and itchy. Not sure what is causing it or why. They're not "nontoxic" but the stoneware and cast iron seems to be made of good materials. What do you think, and how can we know if pots/pans are made of high-quality, trustworthy materials? Gemma: Hi Dr Cabral. Thanks so much for the wealth of information you provide - it has empowered me to make significant positive changes in my health. I have been told by two different Ayurvedic doctors that I am tridoshic. My own personal take on it (with full awareness that this may not be accurate!) is that I have a vata mind, a pitta voice and heart and a kapha body. Is this possible? I have learned so much about myself in terms of my own health and I am so excited to try your 21 day detox. I do have a question regarding the efficacy (and safety) of a heavy metal detox system called TRS detox spray. I did use this a few years ago in myself (for 6 months) and was thinking of trying it on my 5 year old son who is on the spectrum, but I'd love to hear your opinion first! Thanks so much! Marie: Hi Doc! I am always so relieved to have this option of consulting such an amazing expert as yourself. My question is about my eyelids. One of my eyes (left side) sits lower than the other one and is more downturned. I have begun to notice that this increases a lot after a night of drinking alcohol. On those days I can even feel the difference in my eye and the asymmetry is very visible as well. Having researched a little I see that this may be called ptosis and was wondering what the reason might be and what I could do about it? Drinking less alcohol is obviously an option but I am concerned that this may be an indication of something more serious. Thank you for your help! Marie Mary: I am addicted to your podcast! I don't know what to do regarding post w.o. nutrition and sleep. I get home around 10:30pm. That's quite late to eat and still get to bed at a decent hour if i'm waiting 2-3 hours after i eat to go to bed for ease of digestion and good sleep. Is it best not to eat and go to sleep at a decent hour or is it best to eat some soup or broth (something easy to digest)? Is there something i can consume and go to bed about an hour later? If due the stimulus an electrical impulse is created how can something like electricity travel from one neuron to thousand neuron without any loss of energy just with the help of chemicals called neurotransmitter 2.I actually know how sensory receptor in the ear creates an impulse but not sure how it carries the information when someone teaches someone something 3. Not the clotting part but just seems to take a lokng time to be fully healed. Summer: Hi Dr Cabral! I recently found your podcast and have been bingeing episodes, they are such a wealth of knowledge. Thank you for what you do! I had a baby in July of 2020, an emergency c section after being in labor for almost 3 days. Ever since birth I feel like my body is holding onto a lot of inflammation. I know a c section is a major surgery so it would take a while to heal, but now being 15 months postpartum I am getting very discouraged I will never look the way I did before again. I am already gluten and dairy free - and did a poop test with X Company and have cut out those foods as well (most cruciferous vegetables/nuts/beans etc). I am at a loss as to what could be going on. I workout fairly regularly, drink lots of water and eat relatively healthy. Could this be parasite or mold related? Or is my body holding on to weight because I am still breastfeeding? How do I go about figuring out how to get back to my body pre baby? I am not referring to seed cycling but just general foods. As I have listened to your seed cycling podcast, but could not find any of other foods. Thank you so much Audrey: Hi Dr Cabral. My 2 month old daughter has a sub glottic hemangioma that was blocking 60% of her airway. The dermatologist and ENT have her on Propanolol and want her to be on it for the next 6 months. I hate the thought of my young daughter being on heart medication. Eventually these stop growing when she is 1 year old but since it's in her airway, we can't take any chances. Is there an alternative treatment I could be giving her? I am nursing her as well, so anything I could be taking to help her? Thank you so much Kristen: Hello! For the first time my almost five year old has had a fall allergy this year. He has a cough from something. He also has an allergy to egg and wheat. He has never been in antibiotics, was breastfed, and fights off viruses quickly when he does get sick. His dad has seasonal allergies and a few food sensitivities, so there is a genetic predisposition. What can I do for him that will help him get out of following down the same road?
