Tony joins us from Houston, Texas. He shares with us his upbringing in a family with musical pedigree where his parents taught him the value of using his imagination to build and to create. He was tasked to learn the violin as a young boy and he did - but he took exception to practising it. He learned soon thereafter that his curiosities instead lay with actually composing music. We follow Tony on his journey as a young man discovering his talents and passions and how he has applied them to his life’s journey as a composer, an author and a professor. We discuss the animal brain and exploration vs exploitation – and the mystery of the creative source and freewill. We learn about Tony’s take on the “search and rescue” nature of his own creative journeys and the realization of how far we can travel far beyond our immediate sensory world. Ryan joins us from rural New Brunswick, in Atlantic Canada. Coming from a line of hard-working potato farmers, a very young Ryan thought about how he could continue the family business, but doing it his own way. Bringing home the point to us that the journey is what matters, we hear about 100lb Christmas tree shearing machines, sleeping in a truck travelling across the US to bring back contracts, exploding chip bags on highways and doctoring conference floor badges to meet key buyers. Not unrelated, we learn how he started his enterprise while hearing “no” all the time, how he built a factory from scratch to help him compete with billion dollar competitors, how he Corolla’d 90,000 miles a year without a paycheck for several years and how he hired people to join him in executing a vision that he so relentlessly pursued. Now 40 years old, we clearly learn that what’s always been important is his devotion to the land he’s from and to the people who have helped him get where he finds himself journeying now. Valentino joins us from Manchester, England where he acts as a Curator and Lecturer at of one of Europe’s leading edge Schools of future storytelling: the School of Digital Arts (SODA). Originally from Rome, Valentino lost himself in his formative years after the sudden death of his father, until he started to consume what he left for him: his movie collection. Convinced as a teenager that he wanted to be a cinematographer, he slowing shifted his focus during his studies to art and art-history and its intersection with technology. After completing his PhD and feeling somewhat stuck in academia, Valentino invented and forged his own career projection. He worked his way, entrepreneurially, to become a leader in creating Fairs & Festivals in Europe to facilitate proactive dialogue between Artists/Art and Tech-focused businesses leaders at Google, Sony, etc. We discuss the growing awareness amongst business and science leaders of the importance of art practised without constraints. Valentino explains how the practice of art frees us to inspire ourselves and others – and to literally enable us to see new worlds. Literally. We discuss how our view of art is slowly shifting away from its “zooification” to the understanding that it truly is a seismograph of human culture. So. Much. Fun. Born and bred in Southern California, Troy gives us a glimpse of growing up in a musical family. His father and uncle who formed the duo the “Brothers Johnson” had profound influence on music in the 70s and 80s. Born in the 1980s, Troy also took to musical creation immediately, preferring to spend time even as a small child and pre-teen in a music studio above all. His world took a turn while he was still in his teens with his parents’ separation, the death of his best friend and his mother’s illness & eventual passing. But Troy’s undying desire to create music kept him in growth mode. Believing at his core that this is what he was always meant to do, he discusses how being the “oddball ideas” guy in the room is also one of his calling cards. Letting himself go where the fluidity of life’s winding river and where his creations take him, Troy stresses the importance of self-belief and openness to different ideas as his real superpowers. Add in real examples of mind-blowing UFO sightings and a harrowing story around Area-51 and we start to understand that Troy is not afraid to ponder the large questions to better make sense of his role in the creation process. Sue was born and bred in Buffalo, New York. She developed a desire for a career in healthcare and pursued studies in NY and North Carolina and when her life took a turn, so did she. Off to Arizona for no reason at all and very little money to her name, she started a journey with a little bit of Billy Joel and whole lot of hustle. After volunteering quite a bit of time at a clinic, her employer and her patients started to take note of her work ethic and her authentic efforts to help heal others. Fast forward a bit, she was hired as the Head Athletic Trainer for the LA Dodgers. The first woman to hold this position in any of the 4 major professional sports leagues she also credits mentors along the way to helping her learn, develop – and deal with her baby-giraffe. She set a course where today she has worked with all major professional leagues, in addition a stint with the men’s US National Soccer Team. Today, as an entrepreneur and pioneer in her field she is able to reflect with us on what is really important for her in life … including the exploration of Music-Sue. Growing up in Ontario, Canada, Kelly attended 10 different schools as a child until settling in Welland (Niagara region) for highschool. She lived in a chaotic household but lived it the best way she could – with a heightened sense of responsibility, “buttoned-downness” and an acute need for high-achievement in school and sports. Breaking out to get an education in another part of the country, she found her freedom to explore. As her professional life took shape, she found a seemingly natural fit with the corporate environment and her innate desire to achieve. After years of successfully transforming businesses and organizations in the not for profit space, Kelly decided to step back – twice. We discuss belief in self, integrity, humility (lessons from her dad that she holds dear) and the need for “authentic passion”. As a youngster growing up just outside of Toronto, Anthony lived in an entrepreneurial environment. His father, an inventor, instilled in him the importance of being curious, asking questions and breaking through. With authority never sitting right with him as a boy, he chose to explore his own path as a young man after a brief stint in the family business. His path was not short of probing, stumbling, succeeding, learning, and resetting. And, in 2011/2012, he found that the emerging crypto-space spoke dearly to his natural inclinations and talent. And he dove right in. Being one of the pioneers in the field he learned first hand what the world really needed – and that he could be at the forefront of real change and (compounding) impact. Marjorie joins us from Sedona, Arizona. She grew up in a family where the wonder of music, art and literature defined much of her existence as a young girl. Armed with a natural intellectual curiosity and a profound admiration of both musical expression and scientific exploration, Marjorie embarked on both early on in her studies. As a young scientist she was inculcated by the materialist dogma of her field, until she became open to a specific experience. From that point on things changed for her – forever. We discuss self-affirming loops, mind-wandering networks and meditation, non-linear perspectives, the mystical realm, the mystery of dreaming and the near death experience. We examine the significance of having the courage to push through and explore what is new or defined as unpopular by conventional standards. Matt grew up in New York in a close-knit family who encouraged him to both dream big and to keep his eye on the pragmatic. We discuss his proactive search for his passion as a young man as he bobbed and weaved through a brief but explosive stint as an aspiring boxer, an early marketing career working in Times Square and with a side-hustle as a sports agent. When the dust settled, he sat down with his pregnant wife and got her blessing to start a PR firm from scratch. Eleven years later he sits with us to share some of the lessons he’s been learning. Still under 40, he is a successful entrepreneur, agency founder and soccer club owner. He continues to commit to his new adventures with the hunger of a creator both humbled and fueled by his anxieties, uncertainties and fears. Se dove head first into this journey until she reached the pinnacle of her industry. Undeterred by the fact that she was navigating within a professional world that lacked female mentors, she drew from her experience living in a family where gender didn’t play a part in defining her ambitions.
