How Do We Invest Now THIS Just Happened?! Ep. 280

Here’s some more questions to consider about today's episode. What’s really bad inflation going to do to us over the next couple years?     What happens if war gets out of control, or spreads to areas far closer to home?       What happens when government and tech companies get too big and start making decisions you didn’t believe they had the authority to make? What happens when the carrot to invest and behave in socially responsible ways, turns into a stick? These are questions I think we need answers to, because without them, it’s harder than ever to know how to invest – it’s that simple.Hey! When Market Meltdown? News of the Money-World #45

When Market Meltdown, When? Surely, if one could predict the next market correction, this would have been the year to call. Interest rates impact share markets, bond markets, and property markets. Risk and Reward: Naomi Ballantyne, Ep 278

I wonder if it's soon possible that investment returns, especially when adjusted for inflation, could be lower for much longer in the future world. How do we get better than average returns then? We take higher levels of risk, invest more, use less diversification and more leverage, and invest in what many consider speculative bets, like Bitcoin. If we adopt a higher risk strategy though, we have to be able to endure all sorts fear. Market downturns, job losses, relationship break downs, war and civil unrest – whatever comes next, If you’re wealth is tied up in property, or you’re investing in volatile investments that need time to cook, this is why you need personal insurance. All insurance is, are contracts that you enter into where you trade premiums, for the right to receive a possible balloon payment, or a series of monthly payments, or the reimbursement of medical costs, if certain events occur. If you’re stuffed, munted, or set back in some other nasty way, insurance can assist in helping clean up the money mess. What’s more, it helps you stay invested. Hey! Can we have a little chat?If you're picking up what I'm putting down, help me build the Everyday Investor community!1 - Spread the word! Governmentbank - Is the Kiwibank Sale Doomed to Fail? News of the Money-World Ep 44

Today, we're having a general chat about private, public, and mixed models of ownership. What are the pro's and con's of each model, and what are the opportunities for investors when some public assets get into private hands. What are some of the dangers when it goes the other way around?Lastly, I don't think anyone can say this is a commercially clever move. But it begs the question: Why when the profits are 1/10th of what just one bank in NZ makes (ASB), is it so important that $2.1bn of our taxes need to be spent on this (especially during this time!). I can own shares in the holding company of some of other banks (I do in fact!), but not Kiwibank. Everyday Kiwi's don't own Kiwibank - the government does.Hey! Investing in Clean Energy is NOT What You Think / News of the Money-World #43

Europe's heading into winter and they may not be able to keep the heat on. It seems everywhere, climate change and rising energy costs, mixed with supply concerns, are threatening global security. How do we get through this as consumers? That's one question. Financial Literacy: Are We Heading The Wrong Way? Ep 274

I thought we were doing so well when it came to growing money-smarts in NZ, so when I read the report Money and You: Investing in Volatile Times, I was really surprised to see we’ve taken a step backwards. This year, relative to last year, less NZ’ers understand the relationship between risk and return, how different types of investments have different risk profiles, and how current investment themes or trends may affect performance.Perhaps the growth in money smarts I thought I was witnessing over the last 2 yearsespecially, was more a symptom of an exuberant market place, rather than progress made by everyday investors? I’m not happy with this explanation. Richard Klipin, is the chief executive of the FSC (Financial Services Council of NZ), a non-profit member organisation with a vision to grow the financial confidence and wellbeing of New Zealanders.I suspect somewhere between the vector of direct observation, and the data, lies an image of reality. Looks can indeed be deceiving, so every now and then, looking at the data is important. The good thing about how we've potentially taken a step back in this space though, is that you and I have a bit more learning to do together! Hey! Concerned About the Panda in The Room Yet? / News of the Money-World #41

A third of our exports go to just one country, who can replace us in a heartbeat. Fonterra has become an expert in influence over our government.Tensions are rising in the geo-political sphere, and the day is approaching fast where we're we'll have to pick a side between trade with East and security with the West. What are we going to do?Further, when your vote is carries perhaps .00000002% influence over how this country is run, is it right that the vote of one entity carries this much influence?I'm still not sure how this affects the everyday investor, but I know it will - the problem is, no one's talking about this. What’s Happening in the World Economy: China's Intensifying Headaches - BloombergChina-trade-report-2022-update.pdf(nzchinacouncil.org.nz)Fonterra's profits are increasingly reliant on China | Stuff.co.nz_________________________________News of the Money-World is an informative, news 'style' podcast, produced in partners with koura KiwiSaver, one of NZ's most innovative digital KiwiSaver advice provider.Hey!
