Down With Boring #0141: Sunday (1994)

Down With Boring – Dork’s sonic sanctuary of chaos and contemplation – returns with enough musical muscle to power a small indie disco (or at least your Monday evening existential crisis). Sunday (1994) are our special guests – a band who’ve mastered the art of making any emotion sound impossibly beautiful. Their debut EP sits somewhere between a Mazzy Star dream sequence and that film you caught at 3am that changed your life – all hazy romance and perfectly framed heartbreak, turning cinematic aspirations into songs that feel like memories you never knew you had. Meanwhile, we’re dissecting Amyl & The Sniffers’ ‘Cartoon Darkness’ like enthusiastic punk rock pathologists. Amy Taylor and co. have packed more raw energy into the record than a case of banned energy drinks, tackling everything from ecological doom to rebellion that snaps back harder than yesterday’s bubblegum. Plus, there’s all the usual new music. Tyler, The Creator brings the weird and wonderful (and a word we’re becoming a little too fond of repeating), Lady Gaga reminds us why she’s pop’s most committed method actor, and a who’s who of indie’s finest – Declan McKenna, Overpass, Hotwax, and Do Nothing – all check in with fresh material.

Down With Boring #0140: Antony Szmierek

This week’s special guest is none other than rising star Antony Szmierek, who’ll be dropping by to chat ahead of his much (much, much) anticipated new album, ‘Service Station At The End Of The Universe’. Insert your own roadside punchlines here. But that’s not all, folks! We’re also set to dissect two of the most anticipated albums of the season. First up, we’ll be exploring current Dork cover star Orla Gartland‘s 5 star new effort, ‘Everybody Needs A Hero’. Then, we’ll take a deep dive into the solo debut from former black midi frontman Geordie Greep, a record that’s sure to be as unpredictable and boundary-pushing as his work with the band. As always, we’ve got a all you can listen buffet of new music to serve up. Get ready to stick a finger sandwich of sound into your ears with nearly fresh tracks from the likes of Thomas Headon, Cardinals, Chloe Qisha, and CHALK.

Down With Boring #0139: Circa Waves

Hold onto your flatpack furniture, folks, because Dork’s flagship podcast-slash-radio-show Down With Boring is about to get a whole lot wavier with our new edition. This week’s episode is set to feature none other than Circa Waves‘ frontman Kieran, who’s dropping by to chat about the band’s exciting new chapter, their brand spanking new album, and – because why not – the joys of assembling Swedish furniture. Rock and roll, indeed. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, with Circa Waves kicking off a fresh era faster than you can say “We Made It” – which, coincidentally, happens to be the name of their scorching new track. But that’s not all, Dear Listener – the band have also announced a massive UK headline tour. But wait, we’re not done yet. We’re also serving up a smorgasbord of new music, from the likes of Pale Waves, Blossoms, Sports Team, Soft Launch, and The Amazons.

Down With Boring #0132: Sea Girls

They’ve just come off a UK tour that saw them live streaming to more people on the Dork Instagram than could fit in the venue they were playing (and London’s KOKO is no tiny circuit venue, ‘FYI’).
