#38 How to Increase Serotonin and Dopamine Levels (Of Lobsters and Men VOL 2)
Are you a sad lobster?!?
Let me explain...
In the previous episode, we talked about one of the most fundamental principles of your embodied experience of reality. Namely, that the way you hold your posture and in what physiological state you’re in has a profound impact on your psychological state of mind and vice versa.
Jordan Peterson wrote in his book The 12 Rules of Life: An Antidote to Chaos how male lobsters engage in brutal dominance fights between each other.
Winning once is going to predict the future successes of a lobster because of experiencing a boost in the neurotransmitter serotonin
Serotonin plays an important role in decision making, cognitive performance, risk-seeking behavior, and social affiliations. Low serotonin will lead to low serotonin-producing behavior and depression.
Therefore, if you ever want to get yourself back on the right track of health, wealth, love, and happiness, you need to know how to manage and optimize your neurotransmitters even after having suffered from detrimental defeat.
That's what we'll discuss in today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast with Siim Land, some lobsters, and your brain's neurochemistry.
Topics Discussed:
Identifying syndromes of being a sad lobster
How to know if you're depressed and serotonin deficient
Why dopamine has become the bad-boy of your brain chemistry
The basis for emotional addiction and apathy
What causes low serotonin and dopamine
How to get back to baseline and out of depression
What activities and foods boost serotonin
How to reignite your joy for life and happiness
What supplements to take for balancing your neurotransmitters
And much more...

#37 RULE NUMBER 1: Stand Up Straight With Your Shoulders Back (Of Lobsters and Men VOL 1)
What’s the most fundamental rule you should adopt in life?
Here it is: Rule Number 1 Stand up straight with your shoulders back.
It may sound comical and innocent but it actually has a profound impact on your overall experience of reality. This is not some self-help positive thinking bullsh#t but it’s programmed into your physiology and psyche.
Jordan Peterson who’s a Canadian clinical psychologist at the University of Toronto talks about this in his latest book The 12 Rules of Life: An Antidote to Chaos.
Rule Number 1 Stand Up Straight With Your Shoulders Back is a meditation on the habits and dominance hierarchies of lobsters that can apply to humans as well.
That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and our guest is the human psyche...and some lobsters...
Topics discussed:
How the dominance hierarchy of lobsters reflects in the nervous system of humans
Why you never want to be a sad losing lobster
What happens if you give antidepressants to a depressed lobster
How to improve your neurochemical state of mind
What's so profound about standing in a confident position

#36 Optimizing Neurotransmitters and Your Emotional Bandwidth for Better Decision Making with Ryan Munsey
95% of your decision making is based on how you feel at any given moment
That's what the neuroscientist Antonio Damasio claims about human reasoning
When you spend a bit of time thinking about it, then you can see that this is indeed so in the majority of cases. People tend to overeat when they're tired or emotionally stressed out. They do their work only when they're motivated and they rationalize everything with their gut feeling
Don't get this the wrong way - success and mastery require you to show up day in and day out no matter how you feel...but you wouldn't want to live in such a state for too long
So, making better decisions should crucially begin with optimizing how you feel and what emotions you're feeling as to make it easier for yourself.
That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm your host Siim Land and our guest is Ryan Munsey from The Better Human Project. He’s a podcaster, an author, speaker and a high-performance coach who helps entrepreneurs, Navy SEALS, and athletes win medals, stay healthy and function at their peak.
We're going to talk about:
How Ryan and his co-host travel the States in a van and talk to fascinating people 06:00
What message is Ryan trying to give to people with his book F*ck Your Feelings 12:10
Neuroscience shows how 95% of your decisions are based on your feelings 13:00
Does your brain have competing systems that fight against each other 17:05
What’s the emotional bandwidth and how it affects your decision making 22:22
How the lobsters’ dominance hierarchy can teach you an important lesson about balancing your neurotransmitters and nervous system 30:56
What strategies can help you to get out of chronic stress and depression 32:37
The difference between optimizing states and traits 45:00
Are you dependent of supplements and limitless pills? 47:20
And much more...

#35 Winning Willpower Fatigue and Avoiding Ego Depletion with Isaac Chanakira
“You may fetter my leg, but Zeus himself cannot get the better of my free will.” - Epictetus
Do you have the free will to do whatever you want to do?
"Of Course! I'm an independent individual who can make any decision I desire..." you might say at first breath...
But do you remember all those times
You've skipped a workout just because you don't feel like it
You opted for that piece of cake when at a dinner party
You spazzed out in anger at that asshole who cut in front of you
You can't stay focused on reading because your monkey mind keeps distracting you
And my favorite...
You make life-determining decisions based on how it affects your position in the dominance hierarchy of your social group and peers
Do you still have FREE WILL?
In the midst of heated emotions, chaotic situations, ego depletion, willpower fatigue, genetic predispositions, and a world full of distractions it's difficult to say whether or not we have free will or not
Viktor Frankl, an Auschwitz camp survivalist and a psychologist, said: "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of human freedoms - to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances, to choose one's own way."
That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and my guest is my friend Isaac Chanakira from the YouTube channel TheRealizedMan.
We're going to talk about:
How Isaac and built up our YouTube channels
Why you need to have faith that things can get better 03:30
What qualities are the most admirable in a person 12:12
How practicing self-control turns into a game 17:15

#34 Toxic Mold Exposure Shrinks Your Brain, Biohacking Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome and Ice Packing Your Crotch with Jacob Gordon
Have you noticed yourself being forgetful, confused, anxious, inflamed or tired all the time? You've tried everything - diet, exercise, sleep, hypnosis, magic pills, and wizardry but nothing works.
During his undergraduate studies, Jacob Gordon experienced just that as he was suffering from chronic brain fog and exhaustion
The reason for his suffering was a condition called chronic inflammatory response syndrome caused by exposure to mold growing in his living quarters
After years of torment and not seeing any results from the best doctors in the world, he decided to take his health into his own hands
Jacob delved into the world of epigenetics and Psycho-Neuro-Immunology (that's a mouthful), and he fixed his gut dysbiosis, lowered his chronically high histamine levels, overcame insomnia, corrected his faulty dopamine pathways and transformed his previous “unmotivated/lazy” self into a highly motivated and persuasive individual.
That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and our guest is Jacob Gordon from MyBiohack.com
His brain literally shrunk from exposure to the mold and inflammation yet today he's running a website about cutting-edge biohacking and functional health
Topics discussed:
- How Jacob started biohacking his chronic inflammatory response syndrome 01:25- Why mold exposure made him sick - 05:35- What tests you can take to know if you have problems with mold 12:50- Can exercise make mold toxicity worse 20:01- Can antioxidants be bad for you 31:25- How can you prevent yourself against mold toxicity 41:30- Why Jacob is using a cold pack to freeze his crotch 49:25

#32 Becoming More Mindful of Stress Management with Teemu Arina
Imagine having everything you'd ever want in the world - access to food, shelter, wealth, and entertainment -yet you're still suffering from poor health, anxiety, depression, and stress
I think we're all familiar with the surging flashes of cortisol that tend to override rational thought and make us feel stressed out
One of the most common health problems people have in modern society stems from chronic stress and an inflammatory lifestyle not just in nutrition but in their mindset as well
People have felt out of alignment with their environment, their physiology, and their body-mind connection, which is degrading the quality of their life
How do you pull yourself out of that vicious cycle of being triggered into a perpetual 'fight of flight' state? And how do you prevent from falling into that kind of darkness again?
That's the topic of today's Body Mind Empowerment Podcast. I'm Siim Land and our guest is Teemu Arina. He's an entrepreneur, a distinguished speaker from Finland and one of the authors of the Biohacker's Handbook.
We're going to talk about
Why are people so damn stressed out?
Difference between biohacking for high performance and wellness
What apps does Teemu use to optimize his environment and health
How the news is keeping your mind caught up with negativity
How your thoughts can literally make you addicted to stress
Should you take cold showers and exercise for stress management
How to instantly ground yourself and reclaim your awareness during the day
And much more...
