Driving Test Clinic - DW April 2022
In this episode, Kev and Tracey talk to David, one of our podcast listeners who got in touch for some advice about their upcoming driving assessment. Kev took David through an NLP timeline technique, asking him to imagine himself in the different stages during the run-up to the assessment, asking him how he felt and what techniques he could use at each stage.Tracey chipped in by asking about body sensations and whether they were interpreted positively or negatively and also tweaked one of David's techniques slightly to remember him driving successfully to help him feel more confident.Would you like to feature in a future Q&A podcast? Calming Driving Nerves - Why talking to yourself isn't as mad as it seems!
In this episode, Kev and Tracey discuss why talking to yourself while driving isn’t as mad as it might seem, and why talking yourself through difficult driving tasks can help you to feel calmer and keep your attention focused on what you are doing.Psychological research in child development, education and sports people suggests that private self talk can help to regulate emotions and improve performance so it seems logical that this can also be applied into driving scenarios.Kev talks about the benefits for him as an instructor when a students talks through a task aloud in driving lessons and suggests this might also be useful for those who practice driving between lessons with parents and others. Kev and Tracey also discuss using self talk as a strategy for the driving test.Would you like to feature in a future Q&A podcast?
